so, fun story time! In catholicism, the idea we operate under is transubstantiation--which means we believe the bread and wine do literally transform into the body and blood of Jesus, because the theological idea is that nothing else can be as holy, or have the miraculous properties for the soul that the Eucharist (bread and wine) is supposed to have (since it's supposed to be a sacrifice to cleanse All Sin through All Time). This used to be the basic and only interpretation until protestants began to be like "wait that's super fucking weird" and some protestant denominations say its instead a symbol, because there's this concern they have that having transubstantiation keeps hurting Jesus over and over. So we have people who are like "literal body of Christ" and people who are like "symbol for Christ's body"--and both camps see the other as a misguided (at best, at worst a perversion) interpretation of the mechanics of the sacrament. And the mechanics are important because we gotta worship correctly, or else it's an offense to God and the holy nature of the sacrament cannot take place. So yeah, both sides have a lot of emotion attached to how they view the Bread and Wine--which has led to fighting and wars! But that's just par for the course when you look at the question of "what is the correct way to worship God", people take it hella serious

The eating of the “body of Christ” started when Jesus has his lost supper with his apostles before he was crucified. It is know to us Catholics as communion where we eat the “body of Christ”(bread) that’s been blessed by the priest or bishop. It’s how we clean our sins. The win is his blood and the bread is his body, a way for Catholics to clean sins

For anyone who's curious: the "blood and body of Christ" thing is called communion which came about as a tradition based on what is commonly referred to as "The Last Supper". In reality, Jesus and the disciples were celebrating Passover and Jesus, knowing that He was going to be arrested and crucified soon, was basically like (MAJOR PARAPHRASING WARNING AHEAD) "Hey guys, share some of this bread and wine. When you do this sort of stuff in the future, pass around some bread and wine to remember me." Essentially communion is the Christian version of pouring one out for a (heavenly) homie, metaphorically speaking because we don't pour anything out we eat and drink it.

Ok i'm gonna be that guy and explain why we symbolically eat Jesus: He said it during the last meal with his disciples before he was going to be crucified the next day: "Eat my flesh and blood, so that you will never forget me," tho they were only going to consume bread and wine as a symbol for his flesh and blood cuz why not. Because of that, we eat some stuff and drink wine (juice for children) every time we go to church to symbolise this meal, and so that we will never forget Jesus Christ.

I learned last Christmas that in the grinch movie with Jim Carrey, the little 8 year old girl character said the word superfluous and she used and pronounced the word better than Freddy, Carly, and Gibby here lol Btw hilarious video, keep up the great work
