"If u touch the ball first, even u break his leg or rib later, u still make no foul. But if u hit him before u touch the ball, u will get red card. Learn the rule bro" Actually what you've said is one of the biggest myths in the whole sport. If you make a reckless challenge it's a foul whether you touch the ball or not. It's written clear as day in the Laws of the Game, yet you still get people coming out with this constantly as if they know better.

I love how nobody points out the fact that Nani had another option....get his body between the ball and Arbeloa. This would not constitute dangerous play and would give him time to control the ball, using his body, then either find a teammate or beat Arbeloa with skill. It is also be more likely that Arbeloa could foul Nani and win Utd a free-kick. Not a smart decision by Nani and by the letter of the law, a deserved red card. Intentional or not.

Roy Keane just has a chip on his shoulder with United, that's why he's so passionate about this. If one of his Irish boys got sent off for this in the Euros I doubt he'd have this view. Having said that, I like him. He's honest and up front, unlike most pundits these days.

seeing as his the coach now with MON he'd never say that against one of his players publicly If he was pundit on itv, Irish tv, he'd say the very same. In fact he was scathing about the Irish team as a pundit in Euro 2012. Even as a player in the Irish team he held nothing back. Legend

DavidRM18 I was just going to say the same thing he has a SERIOUS CHIP on his shoulder regarding UTD 😞 I loved Keane as a player but i can't stand him as a pundit, it's not just what he says but it's the way he says it! So much animosity 😠 He went right down in my book when he signed for Celtic. I can't remember if Nani got a straight red or 2 yellows 😳 I'm sure he got a 2nd yellow for that challenge but imo he should never have been sent off, the ref should have let it go wi a warning as it was such an important game and it cost us the tie 😠😠 The same ref at this years World Cup let a challenge worse than Nani's go 😬 I'm not sure which game it was but the guy nearly took the other players head off FFS! Keane is a Bully! Simple as! It seems EVERY pundit is scared of him and won't argue back, Bully is maybe a bit strong but he certainly takes no prisoners and it's not nice to see/hear him shit talking about players,managers,teams and ex players too, his delivery is awful 😞 GGMU 😈 ✌👍From Scotland 🙋

Both players were watching the ball, focused on the ball and nothing else. Should both of them have been red carded for dangerous play?

So by Keanes logic you should just NEVER raise your feet in a game of football because your sharing the pitch with others players? Never try and control the ball and pluck it out of the air like Nani was attempting here... Never raise your foot up and try and connect with a beautiful volley because somebody might be there?
@vcsl14
@vcsl14 7 жыл бұрын
That's obviously not what he's saying. It's really simple. If you are raising your leg, with studs showing - whether it's to bring a ball down, attempt an overhead kick, poke the ball away, whatever - it's the player's responsibility to ensure that its not endangering the safety of an opponent. It's like if you went for an overhead kick, but a defender gets his head to the ball first, and you end up kicking him in the face knocking him unconscious - then that's clearly dangerous play. It's mistiming your attempt to play the ball. No different to mistiming a tackle. When the opponent nicks the ball away, and you catch them on the shin then it's a foul. Same logic here.
@RKOzza
@RKOzza 7 жыл бұрын
Vincent Law" It's like if you went for an overhead kick, but a defender gets his head to the ball first, and you end up kicking him in the face knocking him unconscious - then that's clearly dangerous play" Right, so you ignore all natural instincts to attempt the overhead kick and instead look around you first and try and work out how dangerous the situation is? AND, more importantly, let me ask you this, going by your logic... If you knock a defender unconscious and its dangerous play... Is it NOT dangerous play if you performed the exact same motion in attempting the overhead but without hitting anyone? See?.. If a defender does not make an attempt to challenge you.. but you perform the exact same motion then its down to the defenders actions on whether or not the situation is dangerous, no? I understand exactly what Keane meant... Ive watched football for 30 years and iam United fan but Keane is wrong and you have added nothing to my thought process. Maybe what ive tried to explain here, will help yours. Its a grey area where collisions and accidents will occur and its down to the ref and mistakes can be made... but nobody is more wrong in this situation than Keane. He has seen whats happened, he's played the game at the top level as one of its best players, he has had time to process all the facts and what he's seen and when you take in to account all that... His thoughts on the situation just baffle me. Pretty weird to be honest.
@RKOzza
@RKOzza 7 жыл бұрын

@vcsl14
@vcsl14 7 жыл бұрын
Sanazabaaar If an attacker made the exact same motion with no opponent nearby and doesn't catch anyone with his studs, then no, it's not dangerous play because there's no case of "endangering the safety of an opponent". Think about what you are saying. You ask whether a player is supposed to stop and assess whether its dangerous prior attempting to an overhead kick. Are you serious? Of course they should. Is it the defender's responsibility to not head the ball away first as they are going to get clobbered in the face with a boot? No. Was it Arbeloa's responsibility to let Nani bring that ball down despite the fact Arbeloa knew he could get there first and did? No. It's Nani's misjudgement and lack of awareness of an opponent PLAYING THE BALL before him that led to his studs going into Arbeloa's ribcage. How are you not seeing that? Was it malicious? No. Was it intentional? No. Was it dangerous? Fuck yes.
@vcsl14
@vcsl14 7 жыл бұрын
Sanazabaaar Your's is the weakest kind of arguments because you're just taking Keane's interpretation of Nani needing to be aware of opponents around him and stretching it to suggest Keane's logic is saying "never raise your feet as there are other players on the pitch". He's talking abt this one incident.

swing your arms around on a football pitch when no one is around then you dont get booked. swing your arms around when there is a player near you then you will get punished, regardless if you knew they were there or not. As keane said, you have to expect there will be other footballers on a football pitch. Just because he cant see him, it doesn mean you can run around with your studs in the air

Keane thought his red card was harsh when he elbowed JasonMcAteer in the temple (you can clearly see him shaking his head a lot after receiving that red card in the 2002/03 season at Sunderland)....but this accidental incident is a certain red in his eyes???? lol clearly still bitter about the way it ended for himself at ManUtd. I remember ManUtd haters wanking to these comments made by Keane about this game changing decision thinking that if an ex-ManUtd player says it's a red card then that means it obviously must have been correct but they failed to take into consideration the points I just mentioned. People always try to justify whenever teams get favored with some poor decisions against ManUtd and they also always want to make excuses/claim they were cheated if ManUtd wins, even if ManUtd are the team who actually had more bad decisions than good but they still found a way to get the result... and let's be honest ManUtd would've won well more than double the amount of silverware they have won since the early 90's had the officials been 5% as "biased" as people try to claim they are towards ManUtd but I'm well aware people just say that to deflect the embarrassment of their own team's failures. Think about the amount of trophies ManUtd have won at a canter/more convincingly than any other team in England and also the amount of trophies ManUtd have been inches away from winning despite a lot against them....but still, I guess things like having 9-13 more PL title's than any team including the other so called "big teams" is unsurprisingly going to resort bitter people to make up excuses just to hide some of their humiliation isn't it.

Keane is being an arse. He had a bee in his bonnet about Ferguson for years. i t was a yellow. The word intent is everything. There was no intent he was looking at the ball. players bring the ball down from that height every week no one bats and eye. if Keane was right every overhead kick would be a red card offense for being dangerous play.

@turbo8628
@turbo8628 3 жыл бұрын
@@mzwandilemahlaba5029 if that is a red card then nearly every overhead kick is as well. The difference between this and an overhead kick in the penalty box is that nani may or may not have been aware of the player (never looks in his direction) whereas an overhead kick in the box knows for certain there are players nearby who are likely to be trying to head the ball. The overhead kick in the box is far more likely to connect, the average one will have more force and the player is well aware that there are players nearby to connect with. Given how often this happens (high foot) and how often it is punished with a card (only ever when it connects - and that is usually a yellow), if this is a red card then they have been getting it wrong for the entire history of football before and since. That consistency shows that a) the ref got it wrong or b) this is the overwhelming minority of times that the ref got it right by showing a red.

@Black Coffee Now lmfao... I was a football coach. I also did the fa refereeing course. I also worked as a steward at anfield (and goodison, but that's besides the point). When the nani red card happened, it was not a red card offense. Never had been. Recently, and i do mean recently, that changed, so nowadays that is a red card. I bet you don't live anywhere near liverpool, or even the north west, cos we would not be having this conversation right now if you did. Everybody knows why a fan of a rival team will point out said rivalry when defending/applauding an opposition player. You're a plastic.
@turbo8628
@turbo8628 2 жыл бұрын
@Black Coffee Now lmao, you think its impossible to be a steward and a football coach or something? 🤣 The fa level 1 costs about £150 (may have gone up since), the refereeing course costs £75 and they recruit new stewards every few months. Plastic gets used all the time around here, but not being from anywhere near liverpool you would deny that. "End of story", like you have any authority 🤣 Go watch football from the 70's, 80's, 90's and even early 2000's and you will see that the rules have changed. Foreign concept to you, but educating yourself prevents you looking like an idiot cos you may actually know a bit about what you are talking about.

"nani was just trying to control the ball"...."Arbeloa was facing directly to Nani... but he continued to run into the tackle"... so which was it? An attempted control, or a tackle? This comment demonstrates clearly you know almost nothing about football. The second comment is especially bewildering! You've somehow managed to lay the blame at Arbeloa's feet for failing to avoid a dangerous chest-high, studs up flying Portuguese winger! Priceless

@vcsl14
@vcsl14 10 жыл бұрын
Three things. 1. Arbeloa's reaction has got absolutely nothing to do with the decision of the referee or with the incident itself. The challenge by Nani is either serious foul play/ endangering the safety of an opponent or it isn't. 2. Stating "it was a dangerous tackle but Nani doesn't deserver a red card" is in fact contradicting yourself because a "dangerous tackle", which is what you called it yourself, and what it plainly was, is a red card offence. 3. Arbeloa runs up to chest the ball and bring the ball forward for his team, and it is NANI who has gone in high and dangerously (admittedly to bring the ball down himself), and ended up studding the RM player in the chest. It was Nani who was late to the ball. No grey area here. Clear red card. Saying that it was Arbeloa's fault for still running into the challenge is just about the most stupid comment I've ever come across on a KZfaq video.

I would say that the Mane red on Ederson wasn't a red because you don't expect the keeper to come flying out of his area, it's just not something you really imagine. But Roy Keane is exactly right here, Southgate is saying "he's looking at the ball", it's going straight towards Arbeloa so he would have known he was at least near, and it's outfield so you've got to expect players there.

Classic example of FIFA wanting advantage to go to strikers and to eliminate any form of tackling in the modern game. They want entertaining 5-5 games where they can sell the rights to it for extortionate amounts with sponsorship tagged on as well. Its harder to sell a fiercely fought game that ends 1-0 than an end-to-end goals galore 'classic' If Nani doesnt go for that ball, Fergie would have been giving him a bollocking for shying away from the tackle. For me, its another example of how the sport is being pushed towards favouring strikers and eradicating tackling.
