Your work is superb 👌. Very clean and I enjoy the the way you hand sand your pieces! I wonder if you've made a Kris knife before. The snake-like curves are good test of the smith's abilities! I myself have not attempted to make one yet, but I would very much enjoy watching the process were you to take on that project! Much love and light🙏

did you put glas in the crucible? what is that material and what's its purpose? also, what was the other metallic looking dust you put in?

It was indeed glass that he put in. Along with graphite and nickle. The glass melts fast and remains at the top of the mixture to lock out oxygen, so (to my understanding...) the graphite... (which is pure carbon) can form carbides in the steel, which are responsible for the patterns you see in the metal. It also (being carbon) increases the hardness of the steel. I don't know if the nickel sheet was an alloy, or pure nickel... but if it's an alloy, it may have vanadium in it, which is also a causal factor for patterns in wootz steel. Nickel itself aids with corrosion resistance in the metal.
