HOLY SHIT I LOVE THIS EPISODE AND I WILL BE LISTENING TO THIS NEW FUCKING PODCAST. I marched against the Iraq War in 8TH FUCKING GRADE!!! I had to listen to my fucking teachers talk about how wonderful it was that we were "liberating" Iraq and how these people didn't know how to live democratically. One even thought we should promptly invade North Korea. It was insane. It was literally fucking insane, the nation went utterly berserk and it was like living in a soulless desert from 2003 to about 2008 when the elections finally came...

Bush, and especially the Iraq War, was radicalizing for so many, or at least a political awakening. It's what got me into politics when I was younger, and this election season has finally pushed me out of the Democratic cabin entirely. I can't go back in, having seen what I've seen. A better future was so close, within our grasp, and it was stolen away.

Yeah that is awful. The silver lining is that if the Democratic Party becomes genuinely obsolete, then it cannot absorb the energies that might otherwise be pushed into a genuine revolutionary movement. If the entire government is racist neoliberals and racist national socialists, then it is easier to see who our enemies are.

I was six years old when we invaded Iraq and it's only through Chapo eps and further research (AKA binging Generation Kill and reading exactly one other book) that I even understood the effects of our initial foray into the Middle East.

You are right. You wait and see Donald Trump’s criminal negligence in regards to corona virus - he abolished the NSC dept for the management of pandemics and refused to listen to dire warnings because he was all concerned with re election - will be forgotten by most in a matter of weeks. South Korea successfully contained the virus and was conducting 10 thousand tests a day at a time when we were only testing literally less than 100 a week. Millions will die as a result of Trumps inaction but Trump will be acclaimed or at the minimum not blamed.

Lots of criticisms Chapo level at the establishment are things I indeed heard for years from liberal Resistance podcasters and bloggers. Particularly the media pundits who were bloodily wrong about Iraq and still get promoted, the corporate media bias and horribleness, and Democratic inaction and cowardace. And yet, those same liberals, as social democracy and progressive values threatened to rise up and break out of the containment cell, dove hardcore against Bernie on both '16 and '20. Hardcore into "party unity" shit, hardcore into Blue No Matter Who, even up to Mini Mike Bloomberg, who's literally Worse Trump. The very people who screamed the ONLY thing that mattered was Defeat Cheeto Benito formed a process that found one of the worst possible candidates to run against him, now twice in a row, and don't want you to question that. This "civility" shit? This "bipartisan" shit? It's all got common roots, and the roots are selling you out to Republicans. It no longer matters if the Democrats started out as controlled opposition, or became it through sheer malfeasance, they are acting in that role regardless. For our purposes, that's all we need to know. Fuck them.
