He was supposed to treat Mahidevran and Hurrem equally. Hurrem was his wife and Mahidevran his concubine and islamically he was obligated to afford her all the rights of a wife which he failed to do. Not to mention he was a Caliph so should be held to a higher standard.

Listen bro the root of all problems was not Suleiman bcz the sultans were bad after Suleiman the magnificent but there were alot other problems like influence of jannisarrys, stopped ottomans from advancing and yeah economic struggle against great powers then russo Turkish wars then Egyptian rebels and then the main fall of ottomans started after russo Turkish war of 1877 - 1878 and then they choose German side in WW1 thats how ottomans collapsed otherwise after Suleiman the magnificent the empire stayed superpower for centuries

A piece of information people keep forgetting is that a large amount of the Ottoman Empires' internal history is based on speculative theory, often times conflicting personal writings from many sources, and stories passed down because it was actually illegal to write any official business that the Sultan or his Court did. What confirmations we have, i.e. Mehmet dying to small pox/a sickness vs being poisoned is due to medical documentation. A majority of the information on Hurrem actually comes from foreign sources since she actively participated in helping Suleiman manage relationships with other Kingdoms. Everyone's friends friends and enemies, etc. got a say about them. Now, all that said, part of my job is actually researching and maintaining pieces of artifacts/information/etc. about the Ottoman Empire, specifically during the of the Sultanate of Women. 🥰

Lmao no When Hurrem and Suleiman died, their son Selim became sultan. And he brought Mahidevran back to palace, and he used to respect her as his mother. So she spent rest of her life in palace like a sultana, not in poverty. During Selim's reign it was Nurbanu who ruled harem,she was the Haseki sultan. While Mihrimah his sister was Valide sultan (Queen mother) in the palace. (Mihrimah was like his mother, in Islam elder sisters are seen are a mother figure. Hurrem died, so Mihrimah had to fill that void. She also used to advice Selim on state affairs (Until Selim's son Murad became sultan, at that time it was Nurbanu who was Queen mother). She's the only Ottoman princess who was powerful.

Mihrimah lived in old palace,and ruled old palace harem. Like all other princess,she also lost her power influence once suleiman died. It was selim who respected her as she's helped him during his ascension,that's why she became de facto valide and ruled old palace harem. And Nurbanu ruled Topkapi palace harem.

Because, even though all of them have contributed, but hurrem wouldn't have been able to do if Suleiman hadn't given her the authority to do so. But he should've given mahidevran the same following as well. So I wouldn't say that hurrem is wrong but Suleiman definitely is to blame.

@iffatsaeed8459 you don't know anything, neither do I. The reason why shehzadeh mustafa was executed is unknown, it was a sudden order from the Sultan. You don't know who was to blame for it, maybe mustafa was actually not a good person and the Sultan was right. And according to Islam, the ruler is forced to make actions to preserve the sharia and the greater good of the people. So, if mustafa actually conspired against the Sultan, then it is completely justified to execute him. Maybe mustafa was angry that he wasn't chosen as the heir to the throne. YOU NEVER KNOW So, please don't judge on the Sultan, he's remembered positively for a good reason

@@Omer1996E.C that actually is the problem. I also don't know why he was executed. But if he actually was angry, then he is just being angry. His mother never had the prestige in the palace. He didn't get the privilege he should've had when he was in Suleiman's reign. And to finish his mistakes, Suleiman had to kill him. If the betterment of the empire was to be talked about, then after his reign, his successor was also not a good character.

Mahidevran , Gulfem & Hurrem Sultan had different attributes , hence different endings . They made their own choices which determined their outcomes in life . Eg Hurrem Sultan used to write love letters to Suleiman during campaign whereas the other two didn't even send one letter inquiring about his health being . Several mistakes turned into Big blunders hence Sultan Suleiman had to look at the bigger picture ie Whether his successors would just keep the Empire size / lose it in 2 generation/ have a slow steady growth. Naturally Legitimate children came before natural born child hence delusional Mahidevran suffered the most . She couldn't accept that Hurrem was more clever , dedicated & regular than her .

Suleiman’s first wife was Gulfem she give him 2 son but both of them died when they were babies (some historians say Mahidevran killed them) and Mahidevran had 2 sons and one daughter from suleiman both his daughter Raziye and Mustafa lived but her other son died when he was young then Hurrem came to the palace and the rest is history

Because you don't know the truth? Hafsa Sultana, Suleiman's mother, actually maintained a positive relationship between Hurrem, Mahidevran, and herself. In fact it was common for Mothers to live in separate palaces with their sons as the rule was supposed to be 1 Son to 1 Mother. Mind you, Fratricide during this period was common. Hurrem was allowed to break the rules and stay in the palace while also having more children because she became his legal wife and actively took part in matters of the state. She was actually very good friends with Princess Anna and Isabella, and helped foreign policy and negotiations. Mahidevran was brought back from her palace when Selim inherited the Throne, he also paid her debts if she had any and took care of her as his mother Hurrem asked him to.
