I agree that hooking a fish can spark curiosity from other fish. At least freshwater, haven't done much saltwater fishing. I've fished for trout in mountain streams where the trout were so thick they literally swam right by my feet (stocked stream, obviously, probably a tad overstocked). When I hooked a fish I noticed while I got it close and almost landed it, when it kicked or jumped, other fish close by would swim around erratically, but they didn't leave the area. I also used to fish a farm pond a lot in the summer and I'd go late afternoon and fish for bream. When it got dark, I'd bait up for catfish and slay them. I'm convinced that the activity and smell of bait in the water for the bream lured the catfish in.

Hawaii loves Gale Force Twins. We use the same Tanacom , going 800-900ft for queen snapper [onaga]. Using Jerry Brown hollow core 100#, 60# Mason Hard leader, and attached a chum bag that opens at the bottom. You can tie a bag to the top swivel, stays closed going down, when you get to your depth pull up and gravity will release the chum [palu] over your hooks.m Tight lines!

How do you cook the tilefish so that it tastes like crab/lobster? People say they taste like them but I catch Goldens and gray tilefish all the time and they taste similar to other good white meat fish (grouper/snapper)

@Gale Force Twins - those black belly rose fish will not make it when you release them from that depth. If you're going to be deep dropping make sure you'll be keeping the fish you catch so you don't deplete them with catch & release. Also, for a higher rate of survival a venting tool to release some of the pressure is suggested. PS: that was not sand, that was fish poop.
