I watched TNG when it was first broadcast and absolutely fell in love with it, the crew had such wonderful chemistry. I cried my eyes out during that last poker scene where Picard looks around and says "I should have done this a long time ago" and Troi replies "you were always welcome". Apparently Patrick Stewart had a hard time filming that scene without choking up.

As I said to your reaction to 25 - This is the perfect ending for TNG. And that final shot - An overhead shot zooming out of the poker table fading into the model shot of the ship as it goes on to new adventures - is just a gorgeous piece of cinematography. ...Still wish we got a Trek series focusing on a medical ship with that ship design, though...

It's totally cool to watch _Lower Decks_ without all the references, but I will say, it's VERY different from watching TNG without TOS references haha. Lower Decks is very deliberately built on many callbacks to previous things. TOS references were just sprinkled into TNG first season as a salute to the previous generation. "All Good Things" is like "Darmok" for me. The "intellectual puzzle" is clever at first but ultimately a little underwhelming when all is said and done. But watching the characters navigate it is great - I love how by the end of his experience here Picard is just confidently giving orders in triplicate - and you'll remember the tearjerker feelings forever.
@at1212b
@at1212b 7 ай бұрын
Well that's because you didn't watch it live when it aired. One day, a 1 year old today will laugh at how underwhelming the most awesome thing you think it is because FX will be better, the writing will be better (not realizing shows you like now were used as an inspiration for the future). But it's ok, that's the role of an arm chair quarterback predicting a play of watching a pre recorded game.

To be completey honest, TNG was my favourite Trek when I was younger, but these days, DS9 takes the mantle. It's dark, gritty and the storylines are fantastic. If you ever get a chance to watch it, even if not to react, I would recommend it.

1) “All Good Things” is my favorite series finale of all time. A perfect balance of nostalgia, getting a hint of where things might go in the future, serving as a satisfactory wrap up without permanently ending the story, and still delivering an intriguing and entertaining story. Plus, that poker game and pull back to the Enterprise flying off into the distance makes me tear up even 30 years later. 2) VERY excited about Lower Decks. I cringed when I watched the trailer (and even the first 1.5 episodes if I’m being honest). But somehow, they turned what I was afraid might be the nail in the coffin for my favorite franchise into one of my favorite entries in the Star Trek universe is some time. 3) Please, I beg of you … please do not watch Seasons 1 & 2 of Picard if it ever comes to that. Just watch a 5-min recap and spare yourselves the time and torment. If I’m being honest, I don’t even hold Season 3 in very high regard, but it is at the very least watchable. Seasons 1 & 2 do not meet this minimum requirement, in my opinion. I enjoyed watching the journey through TNG. Looking forward to more Star Trek from you.

I don't know, all I'll say is that Season 1, episode 7, of Picard was one of my favorite episodes in the entire franchise. It's _above_ "The Visitor" and "No Small Parts" anyway. I'll give you an exchange in it and censor the name said or who's saying it: "I thought you said this was a safe place?!" "K----? Is this a safe place?" I ... _lost it._

I would argue that the movies combined constitute a full season 8 of TNG. Sure it has an average ending rather than a great one, but across the films as a whole you get the full gamut of TNG quality variation, but all underpinned by the TNG heart. I do hope you go onto DS9 at some point.And Picard is good, all three seasons are very different to each other as they each tell a unique story. The third is the "most TNG-like", but it only works because it draws on what's happened in 1 and 2 (and DS9 & Voyager)

And now that you're done I can finally say it: *Q is not a villain.* At least from the viewpoint of what's best for humanity, he'd be _Chaotic Good_ on a D&D chart. Despite any individual _transgressions_ anyone could point out, everything he did was to push Picard to be the best version of himself, and for humanity to be a better species. And I've seen people argue "He's not good! He got people killed in [insert episode]!" What's the headcount for the Enterprise crew, then? How many people did they kill during the course of the show? Q himself even makes that case at the beginning of "Tapestry", to Picard, about all the lives he took in the course of duty. Q's a great character. And it's only possible because John de Lancie is a brilliant actor.

Regarding "Star Trek - Picard" - the third season really is like an 8th season of TNG. The first two are ... different. You don't really need to watch them to "get" the third one, but it helps; a few things will be weird otherwise. Take your time and think about it. You have done well with your content selection and I have full confidence in you. What you should do before though - if you consider "Picard" - are the Star Trek movies 7 to 10. Whether you watch them on the channel or privately, those will be very important to get "Picard". Plus, overall they are good, especially movie 8.

I love seeing people get through this series with fresh eyes. And I'm having that reaction with Picard, Lower Decks, Strange New Worlds... the feeling of _discovery._ (Ironically one show I'm not watching is "Discovery". Which shocks me as I _love_ Anthony Rapp.) Amazingly one of my other favorite reaction channels, that of Jen Murray, is going through TNG, but at a breakneck pace, and ANOTHER (Popcorn in Bed) is doing the TOS movies. I think I've been the cheeseball that said "You've taken your first steps into a larger world" in each of their comments sections. (I know, wrong franchise, I don't care, I love them both.) Cannot wait to see you doing BSG, as well as that show you said at the end, and you've picked the two movies you need the least supplemental information on (and I'm sure Paula has it already). Insurrection is loaded with DS9 references, First Contact needs, "That ship is assigned to DS9" and that's it.

You spoke at 18:35 about how hard it can be to write a finale for a TV series. It can be tough, but if you have a good team of writers who helped helm your show from its beginning, who can be able to express ideas that can work well for the story, it can pay off in the end. It worked with such classic TV shows like The Fugitive, M*A*S*H, and Cheers. These shows had very memorable series finales; so memorable that for some they were "the most watched episode in the history of television". The Fugitive set the record with 78 million people tuning in for its finale; but that record was broken by Dallas' Season 4 episode "Who Done It?"; which revealed "Who Shot J.R.?". But then that record was broken by "Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen...", which was the final episode of M*A*S*H; with an estimated 105.97 million viewers, and a total audience of 121.6 million. So, if you do it well, your audience will tune in.

Completely apart from being one of my favorite television shows and series (to say nothing of franchises), I think when you talk about any kind of story having a poetic ending, few in television, let alone in Star Trek, had as perfectly constructed a narrative ending as TNG did (while still telling us this group and crew all continued on). (And Patrick Stewart's performance as an aged man struggling to communicate something existentially important through the obstacle of degraded mental faculties, the stark contrast between the respect and admiration and trust they have for him in The Present, the loss of those and weariness of him in The Future, and the unsureness and uncertainty they have for him in The Past, was just so amazingly done, especially after considering how hectic the filming schedule was for the cast since, iirc, some of them went directly into filming Generations.)

I like how Picard came to realize it was Q watching over him all along...when thanks Q it was him acknowledging humanity must still work to better themselves even in the 25-26 century. And how he grew to see his sr crew as an extended family.finally realizing that allowing himself to care and feel foe them does not necessarily mean that he will fail to command in a pinch or crisis.I hope the trollls have not completely sour you ladies into going further into TNG FILMS at least the first 2 are quite awesome too. Thank you ladies for finishing the series i could see that it was not always easy.

what bugs me is they say Three tacyon pulses from three enterprises but it was two enterprises and the Pastuer so the third beam would not be the same frequency

Keep in mind that Picard's seasons are pretty short, so it isn't like you are doing the nearly 30-episode run of a TNG season. (However, Picard also draws on the TNG movies, DS9, and Voyager pretty heavily).

I've found your channel a couple of months ago and have been watching none stop. Been loving all your Star Trek content. And although I don't want to be one of the those annoying people that bug you what to do, I do feel I have to say how disappointed I am you won't be watching Deep Space Nine. It's the natural progression after TNG and I think you both would love it as well. But more to the point I really wanted to see your reaction to it. I do think Lower Decks is a good choice and I think you'll love it, but I hope it will inspire you to change your mind about Deep Space Nine. Even if you don't watch every episode and do a shortened watch I would really love to see it.

I have to agree with the majority on Picard Season 3. It FELT like Star Trek....the previous two did not. Anything/anyone you do not know they quickly explain and that makes me think this season was meant to stand alone for a new audience.

I will say that the thing about watching the more recent series is there is stuff that ends up happening in later films(Generations, First Contact, Insurrection and Nemesis) that are refrenced in Picard. I do personally recommend all three seasons of Picard which fortunately there is only 30 episodes of(10 episodes for 3 seasons). What does also reference other things that happen within the larger Star Trek universe such as during the seven seasons of Deep Space Nine as well as the seven seasons in Voyager( so unfortunately there is a little bit more involvement with just looking at Picard just because of how interconnected they make the universe). But as somebody who is a fan of classic and modern Trek series I can definitely say that it is worth the journey

This was heartbreaking to me when it first aired, not wanting it to end. But at least we had the movies to look forward to. Also I liked Picard especially season 1 and 3.

The writing/design of Geordi marrying Leah Brahms is AWFUL! The character that would have been PERFECT for Geordi is from "The Masterpiece Society": Hannah Bates. That's the character that makes perfect sense -- you can easily see those two falling in love years later.

THANKS for this!!!!! As I said in my Comments to your Part I, I love that 30 years later, most of the cast in real life now look like their future selves here!! Glad to have discovered you in time for your viewpoints of one of the greatest series finales in 20th-century television history!!! Two to beam up (to the TNG movies, perhaps? :) )!!!! And Kat: when you're ready for "Picard" S3, it's far from blah, blah, blah! Yes, just watch Season 3; it's a perfect sequel to TNG!!!!

Girls, I know a lot of your followers had been jerks about it so I'm trying to ask this as respectfully as possible: PLEASE WATCH DS9. It's the most political of the Trek shows, and solves a lot of problems of TNG (about rape, feminism, racism, religion, socialism etc.). I'm sure Kat will love Jadzia and Nerys, and it also touches the unspoken problematics of the Federation in a very mature and unespected way. Not to mention the great representation of anti-fascist resistance, and as an Italian, whose grandparents have been in the Partigiani (the Italian anti-fascist resistance) this really touch me deeply. Considering that your reviews are among the best trekkie reviewes on KZfaq, I really think you should do DS9

If you are worried about watching Picard, I skipped the first two seasons (didn't even read any summaries) and I was fine watching season 3 alone, since its mostly about getting the original cast together again. I won't say I loved it, but I thought it was okay, and I was happy with the ending they gave to the crew

What might be fun is to watch some of the gag reels, or maybe a few videos from the Star Trek INtakes channel, where they edit in the outtakes into the original scenes

To be fair, Picard's entire series is only 30 episodes. Thats not like going through an entirely new series. Its basically just another season of a series.
