Even Senior Chief Petty Officer Miles Edward O'Brien came back for this one. He'd been gone to DS9 for a year and a half by this point, so it was nice to see him basically retconned into the first episode (Colm Meaney officially played "Battle Bridge Conn Officer" in the premiere, and he theoretically could have been two different people. Like Suzie Plakson).

It's also neat that Picard basically makes O'brien the acting chief engineer in the Farpoint scenes, as that's essentially what his role on DS9 (show and the station) is, so of course he's the next best choice if Geordi isn't available

If there's one thing I don't think I buy into it's Troi not caring about what Riker's feelings are regarding her and Worf being together. It creates some nice drama but that doesn't feel true to how Troi has been portrayed up till now. Going a step further, these people have to depend on each other in life or death situations. When you basically live full time with your colleagues the personal and the professional are going to inevitably overlap and as much as the show is an idealised version of what humanity should aspire to, when it comes to feelings they're still vulnerable to hurt or jealousy and the best way to prevent negative outcomes is always communication. Which they do figure out by the end. I just think of all people that Troi, an empath, would never just ignore the emotions of someone she is supposed to care about. Then you also have Worf being the more considerate when it comes to how Riker is taking their relationship. It's almost like Michael and Marina read each other's lines in that opening scene and they just rolled with it.

(Takes me back to when it first aired and wondering how life would go on without the TNG crew as my weekly escape from reality)._* *_Also, seeing past Data, struggling with human expressions & naively trying to incorporate them to blend in takes us WAY back and shows how the character had grown through the previous 7 Years!_*

I went along and watched ST:Generations when it debuted in the cinemas... watched the - events - of that movie, the - destructive events - and then came home to watch ST:TNG S5E05 Disaster with Troi at the helm of the Enterprise, as that's where my local tv station was up to at that moment. So - I hadn't even seen every episode of the show before seeing the first TNG movie. That felt very topsy turvy!

@uosdwiSrdewoH

Considering their workload, in that after already filming 24 episodes they shot 'All Good Things' and 'Generations' simultaneously, everyone is doing incredible work. Brent Spiner specifically, in my opinion, is doing some really subtle business that always impresses me. I feel like even without seeing the uniforms there's a bit of a maturity in his performance set during the later years and a lightness in his movement and speech in any scenes set when Picard first comes aboard. Or maybe I'm imagining things. He's always had the toughest job in trying to show evolution in the character without being able to lean on emotion or even any kind of physical change since he's supposed to look exactly the same in episode 1 as he does in episode 178. How do you approach such a thing let alone keep that continuity in mind when filming scenes set in the past, present and future as well as the movie?

I really love the subtle hints dropped by Q in other episodes regarding the trial. In the ready room scene in True Q, when Picard says to Q reminds Q of the trial in their first meeting, Q tells him "The jury is still out on that Picard. Make no mistake." After the fact, that line was a warning.

It's great to see you together . I watched the series weekly on the BBC , over the years at one point I think it was on the same night as Red Dwarf . TNG proved a worthy successor to Star Trek . This one is focussed on an act of faith by the crew and the relationships built up over such a long time and I'm intrigued as it's been a long time since I saw it . Obviously the series are often repeated on tv but these final episodes tend to be neglected . Anyway I'm sure you are right to make it a two part reaction and I'll happily wait till next week for the conclusion .

Even if you two never do reaction videos to Deep Space Nine, at least you saw Chief O'Brien one last time. I was looking forward to Kat seeing Tasha Yar again. I knew that she would appreciate that. I really hope that All Good things part 2, isn't the last episode of a Star Trek TV show the two of you will watch and do reactions together.

It is interesting that (so far) everyone but Picard and Data is only involved in the Past scenes or the Future scenes. It makes narrative sense with the Enterprise having picked up Riker, Geordi, and the Crushers at Farpoint and made things easier from a production viewpoint as well.

Y’know, 25 years after 1993, when this finale aired, is.. 2018! (What year did you 2 start this TNG journey..?) Btw, this finale has some of endearing moments, like when S1 Picard is clearly seeing things the rest of the crew don’t. And when he inexplicably calls out a red alert, the first of the crew to react is Tasha with her, “You *heard* him! MOVE!”

Could be wrong but I seem to remember this airing in 2 parts anyway. So it all works out! Naturally, there are still those who want you to watch DS9 or even Voyager. But I can see why you might not want to if nothing else due to the length. There are 7 seasons each with 25 episodes per season. If you had the same schedule as TNG, it would also take about 4 years to get through each one, i.e. 8 years! I say check out the movies, then the newer stuff like Discovery, Strange New Worlds and Picard. All of the last 3 have much fewer episodes than DS9 or Voyager. Also see Katrina mention Battlestar Galactica! Cool! Don't believe you have to watch the original but it'd be fun if you did!

I'm sad that your TNG watch/reactions are coming to an end. I don't comment here much but i have been watching your youtube reactions to the show since you first started and now the end is very nearly here. I hope someday you do more of the older Trek shows as well as the modern ones like Star Trek Discovery. Which imo is the best of the modern shows and right up there with the best of Trek. Discovery (and some of the other modern shows like Picard S1, S2 etc) gets some hate from small parts of the fandom because they dares to do things differently but that is what Trek is about to embrace diversity and embrace/explore the unknown. The haters are very vocal online but make up only a small part of the fandom. My point is don't let the negativity cloud perceptions of any show and make your own judgements on them.
@jerodast
@jerodast 7 ай бұрын
You have a right to enjoy it, and certainly a lot of the haters would be jerks about that, but it's also easy to let jerky people be an excuse to dismiss of the legitimacy of others opinions. I personally felt like Discovery's first two seasons were desperately reliant on making connections to PAST characters storylines - there's no reason Burnham had to be PART OF SPOCK'S FAMILY to keep us interested, and certainly he didn't need to be a major character of season 2. Far from doing things differently, they kept retreading the past. I do have arguments with the tone and some plot choices too, but as you say, that is subjective, so I won't get into that. You are free to disagree with me, I just had to push back on your reason you think I don't like it :P (To be clear, there is a vocal subgroup of anti-fans who I have less than zero respect for who complain about "wokeness" in the new shows. a) this is a nonsense modern myth for people who want an excuse to be ignorant assholes, a tale as old as time, b) Trek has been relentlessly woke from the start, didn't you notice? Sadly, NOT having that problem does not make the shows immune to market-driven decisions...in my opinion 😁)

Just wanted to say -- loved your reactions to TNG! This was my favorite Star Trek series --- by far. DS9 went too cynical for my liking but it's far superior to the garbage they are producing now with Nu Trek. Man, I wish they had the same quality of writers today as they did during the TNG era.

We won't be watching DS9! Battlestar Galactica will be the next big show to replace TNG, and some surprises as well!
