honestly this is explained so well i might end up sharing it with people i play with on *other games* outside of drg lmao the way you explain the mindset you need to make decisions instead of just giving a priority list of things to do is a rly good way for improving

in solo play, keeping bosco busy is probably the easiest and most effective time saver. he is the better miner and builder than you (will not be interrupted by bugs; he can get everywhere w/o utility). since he is slower killing bugs than you are, my priority for bosco is mining/building over fighting. If he is just following me, I feel that I am wasting time.

Good point I usually have him take on priority targets during waves tho
@colonelbubble
@colonelbubble 11 ай бұрын
@@TheRealLTJRH512 well, sometimes you'll need the extra firepower, thats fine. Just a few thoughts on bosco combat: i feel he is not very effective against big armored targets (e.g. he shoots the oppressor for a minute straight, dealing zero damage when he is not attacking from behind). and priority targets with a short TTK (such as acid spitters) I'd rather kill myself, as to send him there, I have to aim at them anyways, so rather than sending bosco, I just pull the trigger. He really shines against small enemies which come in big groups (naedocyte shockers, glyphid spawns) thanks to his perfect aim. But again, its fine if he fights. Just avoid him being idle as much as you can

@@colonelbubble yea I’ll always keep him away from oppressors those armored bastards really ruin a lot of of the help we can get like turrets as well. But his slowdown (I take the electric upgrade) on detonators can be a big help. If I’m struggling with long range like with driller I’ll still try to have him take on acid spitters. I think he’s pretty great to deal with the new mortar enemy while I’m kiting since they like to stay just out of sight. What I’m trying to improve with using him is using his rockets more often since they regenerate. I like the freeze rockets. 1 is great against a group of mactera but 2 can be helpful when I get some praetorians clustered together

I would love more examples of this from you, or maybe gameplay commentary analyzing your gameplay. These videos are extremely helpful for me. Specifically, events always feel like they shove a thorn in my side (e.g. core infusers or rockpox) Also, some explanation on bug kiting would be awesome, I'm really struggling with that, especially since I gravitate towards gunner, which has limited mobility.

I love the idea of being able to work out timelines for myself for the missions that I'm getting into. Or to even analyze what I *want* to do in certain situations. Thank you so much for the framework that allows me to figure out a better understanding of the missions myself. Always learning something with your vids.

Would be good to visualise this with a Gantt chart. Some activities are fixed and others are not. Fixed activities that are delayed shift all others right.

it's often used in production/manufacturing management... another good chart use for this would be a PERT chart as there's often some interconnect between what the mission demands and the reality of the mission.

Hey, probably very cool Video, isn't out long enough for me to have watched it. Still, I wanted to ask if you could maybe make a video about how to stay occupied in DRG or rather just how to keep having fun. I know there are people with may more playtime than even you but I really enjoy your way of going about such topics.

Straight up, the best recommendation from hundreds of hours is to try playing with friends. Open lobbies are a nice alternative, too (you tend to find the playerbase is rather nice, on average). Deep dives help hit that more tuned up serious play style since people really don't wanna wipe and redo everything.

Why don't you have the fast grappling hook upgrade?
@linear1224
@linear1224 11 ай бұрын
So basically you want to fit as much up-time on tasks that progress the mission in some direct and indirect ways. Direct being, hooking up pipelines, starting the refinery, collecting secondary objectives and making pipeline repairs, meanwhile an obvious indirect method is obtaining nitra, it doesn't physically progress the mission, but does help you get resupplies which will make survival much easier, right? Of course this doesn't even consider the other stuff that you can do when literally nothing else needs to be done that's tied to meta progression like machine events, collecting craft minerals, gold for credits, plaguehearts for exp and scrip, and so much more, it explains a lot about how some missions just "seemingly" get out of control, this being amplified by Lithophage Outbreak. I imagine that this stuff becomes easier to manage along with everything else with time-based experience, however not everyone is willing to put up with that much planning and effort when the penalty is just being sent back to the space rig. I'm confident though that more diehard fans of DRG will take your advice and may even find success. I guess what I'm trying to say is that this stuff is a lot to take in.

For me, I understand literally all of the core concepts laid out in the video, the thing is, I just don't care. I don't wanna be as efficient as possible, because at a certain point It just optimizes the fun out of the game for me. I appreciate people being fast and proficient if it's their idea of fun, but to me, I just wanna be a cool bug slaying dwarf who likes shiny stuff and mushrooms. My steam tag is literally "Mushroom", ok? For me the fun in DRG comes from the idea of being the coolest "no one left behind" based kind of dwarf who stomps swarmers for breakfast and burns opressors for lunch and not a crackhead flying around a cave optimizing how fast he swings his pickaxe for maximum efficiency
@vartosu11
@vartosu11 10 ай бұрын
And it's totally fine to do that. Axis' videos are tailored for those who want to actively learn to improve at the game. Nobody's perfect and playing in the pursuit of optimization can serve as a goal and is fun for many people. Using his guides allowed me and many others to tackle the game at higher difficulty levels much faster than without. On the other hand, there's lots of people who enjoy or find fun in not knowing how things work, messing around or finding out the hard way, and power to them, I feel stressed in those kinds of situations, the same way you feel stressed if you try to play optimally. There's 2 methods of how and when you choose to play the game: - You can play the game actively if you have more free time, dedicate more brainpower on decision-making and actively learning new skills and strategies.(AxisKronos' videos help a lot with this) - You can "shut your brain off" after a hard day of work and just go to town on some rocks and bugs, utilizing whatever skills and reflexes you've already mastered without giving much thought, a more passive way of playing the game. Both are fine ways to play. What I don't consider fine, however, is when players actively refuse to learn and that ends up directly griefing the team, from basic stuff like: -double-dipping without asking when tight on nitra; -simply refusing to stay inside the salvage mission objective area when it's safe enough to do so, thus needlessly prolonging the fight; -triggering minibosses/events without securing enough nitra, potentially leading to nasty spots where everyone is out of ammo and a swarm is inbound to more advanced stuff like: -not terraforming the area if engi/driller at point extract -starting to vacuum foam before the contagion spike is properly foamed, triggering countless infected waves and wasting time and ammo when it could've been foamed first and them vacuumed all in one go -not knowing the full potential of their classes (like gunners not knowing that all their primaries can destroy the tips of pillars on escort) -not knowing what equipment and perk setup is good or not depending on mission type and zone (like bringing flamethrower drillers or other AOE-centric builds on elimination) ...All stuff that makes me think "boy this mission would've gone a whole lot better/smoother without that guy on the team". Sure, it might be possible to win at lower difficulties without learning any strategies, but these directly improve their win-rate, hence fewer people have qualms with learning them. Once they're at a comfortable win-rate, optimizing for time becomes a less impactful improvement, since many get enjoyment by the time spent playing and not by the mission count playing the game, and that's perfectly reasonable and fine too.

Many players find a lot of enjoyment from optimizing their play. One of the great things about DRG is it is only as complex as you want it to be. You can play it super casually with friends or you can dig in deep and try to squeeze out efficiency wherever you can. If you don't want to deal with the mental gymnastics you don't have to, it depends on what you find fun.

I feel like all you basically said was "DRG missions have many, many parameters alongside player choice, skillset, and coordination that provide near-infinite replayability, in spite of what microscopically small optimization you can achieve" like, yeah that's what makes DRG attractive is the infinite ways to play, and the design of everything really just throws out any nuance to attempting to "optimize" gametime from a broad approach.

Unfortunate, I really like some of the insight here for speedplay (including for modded haz speedplay), but the amount of flak thrown over someone not liking an overclock is super offputting.

I dislike people who are obsessed with the meta of the game and say you can only use this build or you will suck, or you can only play this difficulty because you a noob if you don’t. I don’t watch teirlist videos or look up build recommends because I like to find out what works for me and not be limited to what other people say is right. If a combination is bad, let me find out for myself. It is a little bit off topic for this video, but I just wanted to get this out there.
