Calling Aegon "The Conqueror" is an understatement. With the exception of Dorne and beyond The Wall...he painted the continent with Blood and Fire.

That's the publicly known version of events, but I personally believe Aegon migh've had other reasons for doing it, mostly because conquering an entire continent over a bad negotiation seems a *tiny bit* excessive. What this secret motive may be, I couldn't tell ya

Basic Summarization of the video: North: House Stark bent the knee as shown in this video and were allowed to keep the North. They were made Lord Paramount of the North and Wardens of the North. Riverlands: The riverlands was originally known as the kingdom of Isles and rivers as show in this video. This was because they were conquered by house hoare who originally ruled only the iron islands but then expanded their empire. House Tully was the first to join Aegon and so they were made Lord Paramount of the riverlands. Vale: The lord of the Vale at the time was just a little boy. The Vale and targaeryans fought a couple skirmishes (As shown in this video) like the naval battle but they were resolved. The Lord of the Vale decided to give up his kingdom in return that he could ride on Visenya's dragon, so House Arryn were allowed to continue ruling the lands as Lord Paramount and Warden of the east. Iron Islands: The rulers of the iron islands were House hoare but they became extinct when Aegon burned them all, so the iron islanders decided to have an election for a new leader. They chose Vicken Greyjoy and so the Grejoy's became Lord Paramount of the Iron Islands. Stormlands: House durrandon of the Stormlands became extinct because Orys Baratheon killed the last lord. Orys took the daughter of the last Storm king and was granted the Lord Paramouncy of the Stormlands. Reach: House gardener ruled the Reach. They made an alliance with House Lannister of the Westerlands to defeat Aegon. Aegon used all three dragons and killed all of the gardeners at The field of fire. The steward at high garden gave up the castle as so they were given the Lord Paramount of the Reach and Warden of the south (It was a Tyrell). Westerlands: The Lannisters bent the knee after the field of fire and were allowed to keep the Westerlands as Lord Paramount of the Westerlands and were named wardens of the west. Dorne: It was never conquered in both wars and came to the 7 kingdoms later. They were allowed to keep the title of Prince in return for being able to join the 7 kingdoms.

I like how the second time Rhaenys tried to invade Dorne, they killed her and her dragon.

They never found Rhaenys body. Some speculate that she was held as a prisoner since after that Aegon stopped his conquests but he didn't want to weak so the story was told that she was killed too. It is just a theory tho but 1 I think might be true.

Dorne would've lost the 1st Dornish War, if they weren't lucky to kill Meraxes and Rhaenys (probably captured). Especially not, if Aegon I. went Genghis Khan mode and burned at least all of the crops. The Dornish would eventually give up, when their food supplies run out. The 2nd Dornish War of Conquest wasn't won by Dorne. It ended diplomatically and Dorne joined the Kingdom by marriage of Daeron II. The Good Targaryen ad Maria Martell as well as between Denaerys Targaryen and Maron Martell, after the Martells murdered Aegon III. "The Young Dragon" Targaryen.

I really like how they get their ass kicked a lot and it's not just a one-sided easy conquest of all land, unlike Daenerys where all she needs is ear-rape Targaryen music to blast in our ears while she lights everything on fire.

there is no show on this yet its in the books and she diddent let him when she came out to get him visenya was already there letting him pet the dragon and eventually let him ride it

Der Dr. Likely during the second Dornish War, as it is stated that the Targaryens won some victories in that war, and there is never a mention of the land being taken back by the Targaryens during Aegon's Conquest itself. I figured it makes sense that they kept it for a few years giving it the name "the Dornish Marches".

Presumably, the Dornish marches got their name because the region was declared a march, a militarized buffer to serve to protect the inner lands against invaders from the other side, a buffer zone if you will, it was the region where a lot of battles took place against Dornish incursions into the Stormlands and the Reach. A march and a marsh are not the same, marches generally were heavily fortified regions of countries, generally, the marcher lords pay less tax, or even receive money so that they can defend their lands adequately.

It's a bad story by itself, there's no tension. Guy with dragons obviously going to win, then obviously does win. Yawn. It's fine for backstory, but not a main plot. In the regular song of ice and fire, this is avoided by Dani's dragons being too young, then later by being set against an equally magical superpowerful force.

I hate the fact he didn't conquer Dorne .... Like even if was a guerilla wasteland he should have just lit sun spear on fire and appointed somebody else (defenetly preferably dornish ) but he could have even split it between the stormlands and the reach giving them that motivation to send f load of men

LOL as soon as Aegon changed his strategy and started blasting with dragon fire his enemies castles instead of their peasants and levy troops they all bent the knee, war never changed

The land in the Crownlander area wasn't apart of Isles and rivers. It was neutral and was being contested.

Apex Devil It was contested, and often changed hands, but it was a part of one of the two bordering kingdoms at all time. At the time of Aegon it was split at the Blackwater

No I believe that Crackclaw Point was independent. That is why it is sworn to Celtigar Island right now (even though they have no control). The rest of the Crownlands was part of the Isles and Rivers I believe.

They are called seven kingdoms because if you count the riverlands and iron islands as one kingdom it makes 7. Also Aegon took a bit of land between the riverlands and Stormlands and made it into the Crownlands. He also built his capital on the place he first landed on Westeros Hence the name King's Landing.

tbh from a tactical perspective. He declared himself king of the 7 kingdoms way way way to soon. doing that would just get the whole continent at war with you in a flash. and given how barren dragon stone is it wouldn't be able to support a very large army. so without the plot armour pretty certain his army would loose and he just have 3 dragons. which as we saw on the TV show aren't exactly that impressive considering a ballista nearly kills one.

Victorious Commissar Yeah, Balerion was Big. Same with Eraxes(?). He was Killed by the Dornish btw. With a Ballista. Through the head. And her Rider dieded too ^^

Aegon's conquest was almost three centuries before the events in the books/show. Ballistae powerful enough to pierce dragon scales were likely not invented back then. One of Aegon's dragons was killed by a scorpion in Dorne, but it's described that it was a lucky shot to the eye that killed the dragon. So the only way to kill a dragon was to somehow hit it exactly in the eyes with a stationary siege weapon. In that case, you'd probably have better chance aiming for the rider. Meanwhile dragons were fast moving and their fire was hot enough to melt iron and stone. Dragons were the equivalent of attack helicopters in medieval warfare.

He was a Valyrian. They weren't exactly the most modest group. In his eyes the entirety of the civilised world had belonged to the Valyrians. Westeros was a backwater shithole compared to the old Valyrian Empire in Essos. The Valyrians had taken over civilisations far more advanced than those in Westeros with the dragons. His three dragons were practically unkillable by anyone is Westeros who knew nothing about them. A Ballista would have barely scratched Balerion who was around 200 years old and far, far bigger than Drogon. He knew well he could take the Kingdoms with the Dragons alone, half of Westeros declared fealty just at the sight of them.

this is great but I always thought it was a little broken in function. the method used to conquer the land is pretty clear. dragon kills kings, everyone surrenders, but even though it's in a vague shape of Britain the lore tells this land is massive like Europe if not bigger in size. For the Targarians to keep rule over an empire of Roman size without a organized proper army seems unrealistic to stay in control of so much land for so long. mostly when the culture of the kingdoms were clearly different and the moment he would die the kingdoms would shatter without a proper standing nation military. The kings army is made of banner men of houses which can not support an organized nation of this size and level. Its just a detail total ignored and that always bothered me, but I do love the detail used on his conquest. it seems realistic and the choices people make seem very human or real as you could say.

Gorzealion things stayed the same in a way. The Starks, Lannisters etc all continued to lead their lands only follow Targaryn Rule. When the Northern Stark King bent the knee to Aegon it was because he feared being killed. He would still run things in the north pretty much but answered to Aegon. So im a way Targaryns used the lords already in control of the kingdoms to maintain the dynasty but ruled over these rulers with the fear of fire and blood

Gorzealion our idea of country is very different now a days in that time there was no such thing as a centralized government each lord owned there land and the would do whatever they want except on times of war where they would fight for there king the would also have to pay taxes but it was pretty easy to evade them

Also bear in mind that it took really long time for Seven Kingdoms to turn into a proper country even according to their standards. Aegon spent half of his reign travelling around the continent just to show off his power. The realm did not even have unified law system for decades. And after Aegon died, his son (Aenys) pretty much lost the entire kingdom and died on Dragonstone, because he was too afraid to remain in King´s Landing. When his brother, Maegor, became the king, he spent all of his reign fighting rebels and soldiers loyal to the Faith before being murdered. Only then, after long war, could Jaehaerys (Aenys´s son) bring peace and reform the mess that was Seven Kingdoms into a proper realm. He unified the law, constructed roads connecting major cities and castles and reigned long enough to make sure these projects were finished. Show does not portray it very well (actually, I think it does not mention it at all), but Aegon created 9th region of Westeros from parts of Stormlands, Reach, Riverlands, Crackclaw Point (which was not part of any) and islands around Dragonstone, called Crownlands. And just like Starks or Lannisters had their bannermen and land, so did the Targaryens. It wasn´t just King´s Landing.
