The first game I remember playing was the OG Metroid with my mom the day it came out when I was 5. I would get so lost so my mom bought large sheets of poster board and drew out the world map so we could track our progress since the game had no map. That is my best gaming memory.

My family got an NES in 1987 as a Christmas present (I turned 8 the next day) and I had no idea what it was. It came with just Mario. My life was forever changed.

I don't understand Justin's concern about "mandatory installs". We currently don't play any PS4 games off of the disc, they all install fully to the hard drive now. The disc is just essentially a key to play the installed game.

Mark hit it on the head. How can you not make an educated guess into what generation you're gonna buy next, knowing the company's franchise history? I know I'm going into the PS5 because I know that's where God of War, Spiderman, Ratchet and Clank, Horizon, etc are going to be. Of course we don't know what new franchises might come out for either console but I know I'll be missing out on the old ones that I already love if I switch over.

I got second-hand embarrassment when Mark tried to take credit for cracking the code that led to the answer to 20 Questions. Justin's incredulousness had me laughing my head off. I replayed that scene a few times at work; I couldn't believe Mark's chutzpah. I just wish Sam was there to react to it.

This mix of personalities is the best. No disrespect to Sam Clayborne cuz he's one of the IGN golden 5 (for me). The balance here is great. Kind of wish he had a one on one weekly interview series.

When Tina said it was an active series due to the fact it was on current gen consoles I was like, "Unless it's Splinter Cell" *sad trombone music* And I always assumed an SSD in the PS5 meant an SSD cache (~64GB) with a much larger HDD. That way they could keep the cost pretty much the same.

At this point in time I'd say that Ps5 will likely be my choice over xbox because traditionally Sony has a more diverse and exclusive library with more Japanese titles and I don't see that dynamic drastically shifting. It always comes down to the games though, so you never know.

Nice to hear a shout out to Frost Punk. A fantastic game that wasnt talked about much on release. It is depressing AF though. I feel like some of the choices I made in that game will stick with me for life.

I'm going to get a PS5 because I know there's some definite exclusives coming and I've love their exclusives. But, maybe down the road an XBox if Microsoft's newly bought first-party devs actually have some stuff out in a few years. For me it's about exclusives and how good those exclusives are.

The Haptic Feedback in the Joycon feels great when utilized. I chose to play Mario Odyssey with the Joycon over the Pro Controller because the rumble functionality was noticably better. It's no more gimmicky than any other technological leap, just imagine how a game like Metroid Prime 4 could use it!

The rumble in the Xbox controller is great, it's such a big step up from all the rumble I've had since Starfox 64 and Metal Gear Solid 1. Haptic feedback would be pretty cool and I love that idea of Dark Souls weapon weights having different trigger resistance. Holy crap that would be cool. I don't know why IGN peeps are so against stuff like the DS4 controller speaker, touchpad etc.

The Dead Space talk makes me want to go back and play it. I'm still upset what happened to the series. I agree with Tina, two is also my favorite but both one and two were great. I had the misfortune of playing three, glitches and all. Dead Space had so much potential.

I hope they allow you to turn off the tension in the triggers. I have arthritis in both hands, and even current gen controller triggers hurt to pull a lot of the time. It's not so bad where I cant just white knuckle through it but I have a feeling that controller triggers with tension to them would hurt considerably more. Speaking of witch anyone with the same problem as me have any suggestions on 3rd party ps4 controllers?

I hope the new consoles launch with a second empty dive bay. That way you can just get a bigger ssd down the road. Last Christmas i upgraded my switch sd card from 128 to 256 and it was a real easy process.

I agree with you Mark, I played 2 hours of Outer Wilds and was bored out of my mind. And the controls are awful. Glad I played it in Gamepass instead of buying it based on reviews. And though I love Gamepass and my backwards compatible 360 and og xbox games, I'm still more invested in the ps4 ecosystem, and thus will probably get a ps4 before the next xbox console.

I'm stuck with Xbox ecosystem, I have all the games with gold since almost the start of the 360, plus game pass and all the "free" monthly/weekly games from Epic game store and Twitch prime. I'm only in for PS5 for first/second party IP's, just as I did with PS4. Got a Spiderman pro used 200 great condition a couple months ago and bought a handful of first party games for peanuts. Most of the people I talk to didn't switch to PS4 for the better graphical fidelity. My group of friends were only on XBox360 because of XBOX live. Playing playstation games online with multiplayer was horrible for a long time. When PSN finally fixed that and looked more like XBOX Live, we were able to get back on our favorite SONY console train.

My game of the year would be actually Days Gone. LOVED this game, had so much fun. DOnt think it will win though, but if I had to decide, this would be my vote

Also, PLEASE don't hold back visual and audio fidelity in games for people who aren't 4K ready and don't ever want to buy bigger harddrives. Nothing bugs me more than soft, blurry 1080/1440p quality textures being upscaled to 4K then being dynamically displayed. We just need smart install options where we can select what texture quality and audio language options we want, not just compress everything and increase the pack/unpack offload into memory for every file in the game etc.

Red Dead 2 is absolutely going to triple dip with a third release next year for PS5 and the next Xbox, after coming to PC this year

One thing I found weird was how much they downplayed the appeal of libraries porting over gen to gen this time vs last time . Mark brought it up with his ps plus library and Justin said it about Apple. Personally I don’t mind losing trophies or avatars or anything but I have a plus library of like 150ish and at least another 150 purchased games from 5yrs of sales. PS5 would have to be a major let down on top of MS showing a huge launch window lineup along with a cheaper and more powerful box to even consider it over PS5. Btw I know PS hasn’t full out said the full ps4 library will be BC but if even 70% of my owned games are BC that is a no brainer next gen decision. Also the changes to PSnow and the possible VR2 patent are encouraging signs too.

No Sam the Professor? Man. Disappointed but Justin, Daemon, and Tina are great. I didn’t upgrade either. My Xbox One is used only for my cable tv. So it’s always on. I only play games on once and awhile. Whereas my PS4 is used for gaming along with my Switch. I think Sony is releasing this ps5 news like this because they haven’t done an e3 or psx. I feel like the ps5 announcement will be in February. Sony will do what they did with the PS4. Announce specs and show gameplay and features. Then e3 time show the console and the price. As far SSD, Justin needs to relax. First off, ssds are getting cheaper. If you want you can get a 2tb for under $100. The PS4 was released with a small drive but it was upgradeable. If you are still using the 500gb one from launch now of course you will only be able to install less games. Bec7ga,es got bigger and better. I have 5tb for my PS4. But at launch the PS4 500gb was good then. It wasn’t until the last 2 years games have gotten bigger. Games like Warframe and Bloodborne are under 40gb. WD2 was 41gb. So the games over 100gb didn’t happen until late in this gen, which by this point most people have replaced their hdd and added an external hdd. I agree with Tina. I think Layden wasn’t planning on staying at for much longer and wanted to sit through another console. So he left now so whoever takes over can get in plan for the ps5. I think if he left right after the launch it would look bad. Like if he left next December or January people would think the ps5 launch didn’t go as plan or something was wrong. It could hurt sales. Even if everything worked out and he left after ps5 launch, people would still associate him leaving with something being wrong.

The Xbox Scarlett is going to have Halo Infinite at launch and you know with Game Pass you can have it day and date. Buy a new console and not have to spend any extra money and already have next generation games. You know Microsoft is going to have free performance and graphical upgrades for their games for Project Scarlett. They have already done it with their current library. Sony has been unfortunately have been vague about PS4 games and their forward compatibility with the PS5.

Raytracing is nice, just played control on my 2080 super, but it didnt really "wow" me like the first time i played 144 hz screen (or even the 1st time i saw 4k), honestly. I rather have high fps on my console rather than raytracing as a standard, and those two dont come together.

This generation change is going to be VERY unique compared to last. With the advent of online friends lists, digital only downloads that will work with the next gen via backward compatibility...i think this coming gen will have more "lock in" then ever before. Ps4 will go ps5 and xbox one folks will go next xbox. Same reason i will always have an android phone and not iphone...i have paid waaaaay too much money on apps, and google services to swap. Same for my iphone friends.

The truth about consoles and gaming in general is that all these buzzwords like 4k, Ray Tracing and high refresh rates are only going to be really applicable to the early half of the generation but as years go on the games get better and subsequently harder to run which is why there still isn't a console including the 4k ones that can consistently run most games at 60 fps. That's why I'm so surprised that were blowing past small things like that and marketing with 4k and Ray Tracing when I'd wager that in 3 years most games will be checkerboard 4k if that and sub 60 fps to accommodate Ray Tracing if it has it at all. The hard ware isn't getting old the software is getting harder to run and that will never stop which is where something like pc has the upper hand when you can upgrade your software at anytime to accommodate the advancing software hurdles that come up without having to wait for a new generation to be able to play the same games better especially with these long generations taking up to 7 years when the hardware will already be out of date within 2 years.

I can easily say I dont think I see a need for a ps5. Ps4 looks fine to me. With how long high end games take to develop I'm not looking forward to how long it will take for even "better" games to come out.

the way you two feel about Xbox One is the way I feel about PS4...every exclusive they've put out is just a groaner the more I find out about them. The only game on the PS4 that has ever made me think about buying a PS4 is FF7 remake...and honestly it's taking so long to come out there's no way I'm buying their console for it. Unless it comes to the Xbox or PC I just won't play it.

I always knew, since PS4 was announced, that the PS5 was going to release in 2020. They always said they wanted a 10 year lifecycle for PS3, and a 10 year lifecycle for PS4. PS3 was around for 7 years before PS4 released, and then they kept supporting it for 3 additional years making it a 10 year lifecycle. The PS4 is entering its 7th year in 2020, and support will continue until 2023. If they continue that lifecycle timeline, future console releases become 100% predictable and therefore the PS6 will definitely be released in 2027.

I agree with Mark. I'm 100% getting a PS5. They'd need to f up really badly for me not to. Justin is forgetting that the PS5 is supposed to backwards compatible, so you can take your games with you, much like the Apple comparison.
