The reason the Avengers game isn't recouping it's costs is because the costs of developing that game were REALLY HIGH. Avengers was one of the best selling games of that month, and is the second best selling superhero game behind Spider-Man on PS4. It's not that it didn't make money. It needed to make a ludicrous amount of money because they spent so much on development. FF15 also had this problem. It's a Square Enix issue

There is no Spider-Man movie this year and Miles Morales is doing just fine. The bottom line is that Avengers becomes very repetitive after a few hours and and there's not enough interesting content to keep engagement up. Also, I'm not certain making Avengers a GaaS was a good decision on S-E's part.

I'm Level 190 in Assassins' creed at hour 62 (the game clock does not count pause time thankfully) and like man I'm getting burnt out mainly because I wanted to finish it before cyberpunk but I'm realizing that's the wrong thing to do. This game continues to reveal more and more and more content as you progress, that in turn makes me feel dread cause I've put myself on an imaginary deadline to finish. I've decided to put it down until after cyberpunk I feel Ill enjoy it more that way and I've switched my pre cyberpunk goal to getting the Miles Morales Platinum instead. I really like AC Valhalla though I greatly prefer my Eivor (male) to my Kassandra in Odyssey and the contained story structure per area on the map is a choice I actually like.

An Avengers loot game is perfectly fine. We had two X-Men Legends game, 3 Marvel Ultimate Alliance games and two iterations of Marvel Heroes. All of those were loot grind games. Marvel Heroes in particular was also a games as service but was apparently mismanaged.
@ambrosiajam8008
@ambrosiajam8008 3 жыл бұрын
Wrong...There is no reason why tony stark should be grinding for upgrade gear in a game w/realistic graphics lol. Also they tried too hard to make it look like MCU which is off-putting for a loot game.
@thefearmakerlive
@thefearmakerlive 3 жыл бұрын
@@ambrosiajam8008 that's ridiculous. If that's the case a viking shouldn't be grinding for Gear or a soldier, we all understand the concepts of video games, and grinding for loot is a technique that lots of games use and lots of players love. It isn't practical for Tony Stark to be in a match 3 game, and Marvel puzzle quest is one of the biggest games on the earth. Also, having more realistic looking character models didn't hurt the game. If the game was good, no one would care. Spider-Man had realistic looking character models, and a new white Spider costume, and people loved it. And the voice performances in The Avengers are really good for the script they're given, and after awhile, they become the defacto voices for those characters, not the cartoons or MCU, as you continue to play the game. There's no way Superman should be grinding and putting on armor pieces, but it worked astonishingly well in Injustice 2. You make a good game, the "game" part of the functionality doesn't matter.
@ambrosiajam8008
@ambrosiajam8008 3 жыл бұрын
@@thefearmakerlive your point is completely skewed from mine and not correlated at all. It’s a bad mechanic to have in a game like this, it looks bad and it’s a big part of why it’s a bad game and why I don’t want to ever play it, period.
@thefearmakerlive
@thefearmakerlive 3 жыл бұрын
@@ambrosiajam8008 what I'm talking about is not skewed in any way, and now you're just making sure up. Because YOU don't like the way it looks or that style of game doesn't mean millions of other people don't. It's the reason Destiny 2 and the Division 2, and Genshin Impact make a lot of money. The problem isn't the kind of game they made, nor the art style. As millions of people would love to team up with their friends and be Avengers. The problem was they released a buggy mess with hardly any Marvel content outside of the main 6 Avengers, and only a small amount of post campaign content, that's repetitive and mostly uninteresting. And even with that, it's still the 9th best selling game of the year, but will end up 10th when Cyberpunk's December numbers are added into the yearly sales chart.

The Buyer’s Guide were fun. When I was a kid and didn’t give a shit about reviews. Still don’t. I loved magazines like this. I wanted to get as much info as I could about games and pick the ones I wanted. This buyers would be perfect. You got to see a ton of games, read little descriptions, see a screen shot a game, and maybe a score. I just wanted to circle or mark the games I wanted to get for Christmas and my birthday(January). Just like Justin said I would love this as a kid reading all the blurbs. That is what it was for me. Actually AC Valhalla was down to $32 and some odd cents as door busters at GameStop. Same with WD Legion. The $32 price for AC Valhalla was very short. Then GameStop increased the price to $47. Justin yes they did give explanations of the gorgons and other creatures. They are failed experiments by Isu, who are the people you meet in that whole dlc, fate of Atlantis. Lol.

The "Destiny killer" games are never going to really succeed. I think the biggest reason why is because most people have tried one of these games, whether it be destiny, division, anthem, avengers, so on, and have decided whether they like them or not. Those that like them have gravitated towards destiny, and have stayed there. These games as a service are trying to get some of that market share, but I don't see the Destiny community leaving, and other gamers dont seem interested anymore.

Avengers sold over 3 million copies in it's first month, so it did sell, just not enough to cover costs so far. And as we've seen, more people are buying games digitally because of the pandemic, so it's less likely mom or dad is in Walmart, sees Avengers and just buys it for their kid. In reference to Sam, no Spider-Man movie was released in 2018, nor this year and both Spider-Man games did well. And as of now, Avengers is an equally as big property. Being a games as service didn't make it not sell well, these characters have 60-80 years of having different costumes and versions. Of course players could get on board with the Hulk having armor, his biggest skin is the Planet Hulk skin where he has on Gladiator like in Thor Ragnarok. The problem was that the game was a buggy mess on release, the campaign was decent, but was short, didn't let you spend a lot of time playing with the most known Avengers (Only 10 minutes of Thor), and the Games as Service portion of the game, which didn't move the plot along or have amazing moments, was interjected into the campaign to extend it, without adding any fun. Also the Games as Service portion of the Game lacked content, especially Marvel content. There are no Marvel locations, only 2 Marvel villains, and every stage ends in the characters fighting in a multi level lab. On top of that, the two villains you do have are simple bullet sponges and there is no strategy needed to best them, nor multiple levels to those fights. Then add on the fact that the additional costumes, whether in game or the marketplace are all 2-3 models for each character and then 30 color palette swaps, that all of the additional content has been delayed by months, and that Crystal Dynamics hasn't even put out information on what additional content is actually coming, then of course the license can't save the game. It's a bad game only partially saved by the fact that the combat and the leveling system are both good. It's like Crystal Dynamics did a year and a half of work on a game they've been working on for 5 years as even the simplest things are overlooked. In the campaign, Kamala changes into another character in the training room (she becomes a digital version of Iron-man to test out his skills), but when you go back to the training room on free roam, you can't do that. It would have been a way for multiple people to play the same character in one scenario, as you can't do that on standard missions, which is okay, but they couldn't even do that, when it's already established in their lore. Basically, if it were a good game, it would have sold. As people would have loved teaming up with their friends and going through the Marvel Universe.

Funny that for a game-as-a-service, people have been enjoying the single-player experience above all else ^^; Still, Avengers had problems with its character likelinesses not being like in the MCU or even similar to the comic books, heavily downscaled characters like Hulk and Thor struggling to beat low-level minions and the levels being very generic and not based on classic locations. I'd like to point Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 had more fidelity to its source materials, despite a rather repetitive gameplay.

Why’s everyone always shitting on Castlevania 2?! Here are 1 opinion and 2 reasons why the haters are wrong: 1. It’s the best of the first 4 games (SNES Included). 2. It’s the only “Metroid-vania” of the first 4! 3. It invented the “Metroid-vania” genre (despite everyone saying it was Symphony of the Night - not true!) because before that they would have just been called “Metroid-likes”!! Case closed!!

Kind of disagree with the guy from Alaska. True the last couple of generations of Playstation/Xbox have been in the holiday window, but plenty of consoles over the decades were released in the early Fall (Dreamcast) and Summer (Saturn) and obviously those did not catch on. The Switch being an exception by succeeding in March. Xbox Ones and PS4's weren't selling out in 2013, it was important to launch them in the holiday window to maximize sales, same with 360s and PS3s. These manufacturers want a jumpstart to their launch to establish a user base to spur development, you should always launch in the peak shopping window even if you sell out. The only other console launch with this level of scarcity was the PS2, which was a combination of factors. Covid has just artificially inflated demand for in home entertainment this time around.

The Division is the only franchise to remain stable on the podium with Destiny on top. Destiny has a ton of flaws and frustrations. Tons. But what it does right, it does well. The Division is the same way, to a lesser degree. If a developer or publisher put in the effort to see where Destiny fails, while also copying its successes, they could easily take it over. As is, one thing EA and Square are not considering is how much of a time investment they are making these games. Sure, they want people to sink time into their game, but when your game is not as enjoyable as Destiny or Division, then you will never get those audiences. People cannot play 2-3 time sink looter grinds concurrently. They just can't. They will choose the better ones. That, and publishers have to realize Bungie and Ubi are constantly supporting their games. Fear of missing out is huge. Why start to sink time into a new game when your 500+ hour character in Destiny needs to prepare for a new raid? Same thing with Division. Even worse, why sink time into a badly designed game (Avengers) than the one you have spent 500+ hours in since its launch? Battle Royales don't have this problem. The is no "level" you have to grind or gear you need to get like a looter shooter mmo hyrbid live service game. You don't need to keep up or grind. You just hop back in and play on new maps with new weapons. This is why people can play multiple BRs concurrently. There is no time sink nescessary to actually PLAY the game. Come back after 7 months? Cool, you don't have to worry about bring under leveled or not having the best equipment or loot. There is no catchup. EA and Square destroyed themselves when they made their players think playing their games have to be jobs to actually keep up. You can't play Destiny and Anthem and Avengers all as jobs, at that point you choose one. And Destiny is better, but it didn't have to be if Square and EA actually took time to compete against Bungie's mistakes. They just made the same ones Bungie has already learned from at the start of Destiny 1. Destiny 1 only succeeded because it was the only live service game. It actually launched with just as shallow content as Avengers and Anthem. But it had 2 raids within its first months that held it up until Trials, and then until its second year expansion, which was 100x better than the launch of the game. Ugh, I'll just stop. This topic pisses me off because developers and publishers are horrible at realizing how bad of a game Destiny is to realize where they can be better.
