Have to disagree with the point that faces look worse now. Games like the last of us 2, Uncharted 4, and red dead 2 show great improvements from what was previously seen in past gens.

@Thiago Agreed, subsurface scattering and PBR materials are giving us more realistic looking characters and environments

Yeah, I agree. Eyes and facial expressions are getting waaaaay better as well. Assassin’s Creed odyssey is a great example of that. You can nail exactly what emotion Kassandra is feeling just by her facial expressions alone, there is a ton of nuance to it, far more moving muscles in the face than before. Very expressive eyes too. It’s getting nutty. I’m betting the next gen, soon to be this gen, games are going to start looking so real it’ll be creepy.

@@davidcurtis17 Totally agree. I'm willing to bet the next Naughty dog game will breach into photorealist territory - at least in regards to character model and animations. Also, I really liked Kassandra's animations too, and can't wait to see what Eivor looks like next month!

@@davidcurtis17 have to disagree with Odyssey. Think assassin’s creed facial animations for Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla are quite lazy.

There is a Ninja named Mook in Broforce but it is an NPC. So not wrong to include it as a 'Yes' but in the context it was misleading and I would've clarified for the ones guessing some context of how 'ninja' related the game is, for fairness. I mean it is hard mode already and its cool to see when they guess it.

Watching Hauntings of Bly Manor and completely agree with Tina - that was my sentiment. Hauntings of Hill House was fantastic - it's like an actual full budget horror movie stretched out over many episodes. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Hauntings of Bly Manor on the other hand seems more like a drama show with a tiny bits of hauntings sprinkled here and there.

Question for the Crew and Comments: Are there game mechanics you miss from old games that you can't find today or are rarely done well today? My examples would be FF:CC's unique multiplayer coop/competitive goals. The 2000s had a lot of unique blends of FPS/RTS. There was a total war game that let you take control of one of the generals from RTS mode and hack and slash in 3rd person through the hordes of troops. There's a lot of PC games in the 2000s that had novel multiplayer experiences that just don't exist today, and are poorly documented and lost to obscurity (10six, wulfram2).

I can't think of a show that has baffled me as much as Ted Lasso. It's a show based on a character made for ads for a sports TV channel. It's a comedy that isn't particularly funny, not that it even seems to be trying to be funny. It's not a dramedy because there are no dramatic stakes. Any potential conflict is always quickly and quietly resolved. Marriage trouble? Amicably polite divorce. Coach vs star player clash? Offscreen club trade. Even the big season long plot point of club sabotage is revealed and resolved with immediate forgiveness. I don't know what this show is but I just know that I love it.

Games as a service is easily the biggest advancement of the current generation. We went from a few MMOs and the odd game here and there to a sub genre. I think it’s a glaring blind spot for most of the media because they are focused on completing games and moving to the next.

Developers will have to change how they build games to do what Cerny suggested, so no that isn’t happening. That entire PS5 demo was a pitch to other developers on how to change development- it was never about the SSD because the true magic is that you now have an insane amount of RAM where the game truly sits data. This is why even worse performing SSDs still work just fine on PS5.

Are gamers mostly cat people? I don't know many avid gamers personally, but of the 2 I do know, one likes and has cats, and the other does not have cats only because he is allergic (but also does not have dogs). That's a pretty small sample size, but then there are all the gamers I know from streaming and shows/podcasts - Damon, Justin, Sam, and Tina are all cat people, several of the streamers I've watched have mostly been cat people (SaltyPhish, Seagull, etc.), and while it's safe to say most gamers love all animals to begin with (so many people were upset you couldn't pet dogs in Zelda), I feel like I see a pattern of preference for cats at least when it comes to pets you have at your own place. My very flawed theory on this yet unverified conjecture is that gamers spend a lot of time playing games and thus cannot be bogged down by a high-maintenance pet such as a dog and would rather have a chill, mostly independent pet such as a cat.
