⚡ 💀 💕 / 🏃‍♀👹 That was the eighth song in a sixteen song set. So right around the halfway point. This cute song is about playing a game that is like hide-and-go-seek, tag or blind-man's-bluff. Pursued by an "Oni"" which is a kind of Japanese Ogre. Oni have been part of Japanese folklore for centuries. If much of their charm is in the blending of the cute and the brutal, this song is a great example. They're all turned up to 11. They performed this song quite a bit in 2017, but not since. The last time I saw this one was in Chula Vista, CA when they were on tour opening for Korn.

Great reaction, and thanks for the shout-out! Glad you are following the advice of The One; there are plenty of very knowledgeable kitsunes around that will help you on your journey down the foxhole. As Grington said, the Kami band played 2 of those intros that night, the other one being for Su-metal's solo performance "Rondo of Nightmare". All of the Kamis are incredible talented and skilled but BOH somehow always manages to outshine the others lol (probably because you don't see many bass solos anywhere, and he is literally the 6-string bass god) This was actually song number 8 in their 14-song setlist that night (plus a 2 song encore). In case you were wondering about the rails at the outside of the stage, they were put up after the first night (Red Night) accident where Yui fell off the stage (it is said it was a 6-8 feet fall) but came back for the next song. What a level of professionalism and dedication! The chorea in CMIYK is insane kawaii (especially when Moa slides under Su #simp) and so much fun, especially paired with the girl's expressions since you can really see how much fun they have on stage. As you said, everything is so well thought out and executed to perfection during a live show, from the lightning, the choreography, stage setup, and of course, the musical execution by the Kamis. That never changed (gladly!), and their recent shows are on a whole other level when it comes to staging setup, lighting, CGI, and image mapping/projection. I won't spoil it for you but wait until you/we get to "From Dusk Till Dawn live at the Budokan 2021). Jakes's list he provided you is well though but after that there is so much more for you to discover! From what I remember he suggested "Ijime Dame Zettai" next but it wouldn't be an issue checking out "Rondo of Nightmare" next if you are eager for another Kami band intro =).

I like how the lyrics of the song fit the music perfectly. As you might have noticed, the lyrics are about an innocent game of Hide&Seek. But the fact that they are playing with an Oni (a demonic ogre creature from Japanese mythology) gives it the Metal touch, making it a perfect combination for BABYMETAL. The lyrics also contain some nods to a folk tale about a red and a blue ogre (IIRC, they play something like a "good cop, bad cop" game to the humans, so the red ogre can befriend them) and a traditional festival from Oga peninsula called Namahage, where villagers dressed as ogres descend into the villages from the mountains and scare children into behaving. That's one thing I miss from earlier BABYMETAL songs, they have lost some of that Japanese cultural touch. I hope they get back to it at some point. I think it's worth watching the video again with the knowledge about the lyrics. The way the integrate the game into the choreography is pretty awesome, in my opinion, especially at the beginning.

Great reaction. The Kami Band did two instrumental intros for songs that night, this and the other was for one of Su-metal's solo songs 'Rondo of Nightmare'. You will not find their intros on the albums, those are Kami Band intros and the Kami Band only play live shows. In this, in order of solo, they were Takayoshi Ohmura, Leda Cygnus, BOH and Hideki Aoyama. 'Catch Me If You Can' is the best metal song about playing a game that's a sort of cross between tag, blind man's bluff and hide & seek I've ever heard. It is the perfect mix of the two extremes with the brutal instrumentals and the sweet vocals - and the game they are playing, they're playing with an Oni (a sort of Japanese ogre popular in regional festivals and used specifically to frighten children ... is it wrong that just the thought of that amuses me a lot?) which would be the red and blue ogres they mentioned in the lyrics and that you recognised from Pokemon. The growling vocals (they are on a backing track) are the Oni asking things like "Are you ready?" and the best response has to be "Maada da yo" (No, not yet) while doing a running away from an Oni dance. This arena is the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, a martial arts arena (so yes when BABYMETAL play there the stage is at the centre, the audience surrounding them on all sides and at several levels) built for the 1964 Olympics and now also a hugely prestigious venue for concerts (think Japanese equivalent of Carnegie Hall or maybe Madison Square Garden). It is where artists aspire to play and a small minority ever get there. BABYMETAL are the youngest average age female band ever to headline the Budokan - they sold it out 2 nights running in March 2014 - Su was 16, Yui and Moa still only 14. They went back last year and played 10 more shows there to celebrate their 10th anniversary.

He is a truly excellent bassist. In BABYMETAL concerts, performers need a lot of energy and they require it to the audience. In the last year's concert, my smart watch indicated more than 600Kcal consumption after a show at Budokan, the same legendary venue in this video 😄 (even without mosh pit in the all-seater arena). Watching Boh on bass is like watching Michelangelo carve David - just a pure work of art!!! And that isn't to take anything away from the rest of the Kami Band who are absolutely phenomenal! Have to say this. You ain't seen nothing yet. The energy from their crowds is wild. The crowd control they have is also wild. Su is so confident as a leader. The farther you go you will see their shows, especially from Japan, are so good. No matter small stage in front of 2500 people or at Tokyo Dome with 55000 people two nights in a row. Nice reaction. Babymetal only have a few actual music videos. The rest are concert performances. Many folks like those better because it seems like their albums are just a taste of what you're going to get when you see them live. On the album they only hint about that Kamiband solos at the beginning of the song in the concert. Great stuff and makes you want to see them live even more. Makes their live CD's even more desirable so you can listen to those solos in the car. They might get you driving a bit fast. Hmm ok very fast. Check those MPH while in the car. Headbanger on the album is fun. Headbanger live from any of their shows is a whole other animal. Like this many Babymetal songs when they perform them live its steps above what you heard on the album. I still listen to the albums in the car. You make do with what you got as they say. Enjoy the journey through the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music.
