You're missing the point of who Bill was. I am very proud to say that he was an all or nothing kind of guy. He loved his country and brutally defended it against what he knew was an offence. When he spoke of fear and how he instilled it in his opponents. You would have another opinion but I can guarantee you that it wouldn't mean squat to him, because as a brother he was beyond convinced that his cause was just.

He literally did the same thing to DiCaprio's character that Priest Vallon did to him. He *wanted* Amsterdam to survive with vengeance in his heart so he could be immortal as well when he was finally killed - or at least kill another "man worth killing." He was insulted that Amsterdam tried to assassinate him no more artfully than the Irishman tried to earlier rather than kill him fairly in battle. That's why he looks happy when he's properly challenged later on in the film. He knew Tweed was right when he said that he'd "go down fighting," and being killed defending his beliefs was the best shot he was going to get at immortality. But as shown in the last part of the movie, all that's left of both of them are grown-over graves.

@@johnrobinson1762Bill hated all migrants. Not just the Irish, he came to accept black people more but he hated the Irish especially. As Scorsese tried to point out in the movie though, the so called Bill’s natives were white European migrants to a land first inhabited by Native Americans, like most so called natives and racists who hate any immigrants, most humans alive today have family who were immigrants from all over the world so are just ironic hypocrites

What I think most people don't realize is that they both truly love each other, even after the betrayal. Bill gets the son he never had and mentors him, while Amsterdam sees the glimmers of humanity in Bill. Even in the final battle, Amsterdam gives Bill a quick death, which is taught in this scene. You can see in Bill's eyes that he realizes this, and understands the respect/love they have for each other. Bill even dies holding Amsterdam's hand.

Every time I watch this film or clips from it I get pissed off. I get pissed off because Daniel Day-Lewis got so incredibly robbed at the academy awards. @Noirchards I strongly disagree with you. An Oscar is the most prestigious award in the entertainment business. Also, It does NOT go to the most popular movie. The most popular movie in 2020 was not Parasite yet it won Best Picture. It takes a tremendous amount of skill and a high level of acting ability to win. Look at all the Actors who have one Oscars over the past 20 years. Watch each movie they are in and how much they truly earned it with superb acting. It may not matter to you and that’s your problem, but it matters to Actors who have won them and Actors like me who aspire and will win one.

This film is Martin Scorsese’s worst edited film. It’s like the “I’m gonna kill you” slow motion garbage at the end of the masterpiece Taxi Driver, but sprinkled consistently throughout this. I watched his Masterclass and I know that they had to wrap production quick at the end of Taxi Driver and in Gangs of New York, they had just moved to a computer for editing and he said he wasn’t used to it.

@goaway152 I'll let my autocorrect know. Let yours know a single word isn't a complete sentence. A sentence must have a verb and a noun. Also, the first word in a sentence is supposed to be capitalized. What isn't supposed to be capitalized is some random word near the middle of a sentence. Furthermore, when you are quoting something someone said, or in this instance typed, it should be in quotation marks. Another thing to keep in mind is that in the word "isn't," there is an apostrophe between the "n" and the "t." Other areas of improvement is your writing of single letters. You started out good in capitalizing the letter P, but then you didn't with the letter B. If you don't capitalize a letter, it needs to have quotation marks around it. One last thing as I don't want to keep going, though I could. After a sentence ends and another begins, there is only supposed to be one space for APA format or two spaces for MLA.

Why are butchers in movies always so damn sweaty?

butchery is very hard work, especially depending if the kill is fresh. you have to first clean the damn thing, remove the hair and the shit from the ass. After bleeding it out, you remove the guts, organs, most of the muscle can't be eaten and all these things must be disposed of or they'll stink far worse than the shit. (some people like to use it as chum or fertilizer, in nature the wolves will leave these parts be for the ants to break down) And then you have to remove the rest of the shit inside the pig's colon/bowels i forget what its called. Once that's done, you get what's shown here, and all that work can take an entire morning or evening, even longer if you have to tenderize the meat by beating it with a club for around an hour (depends on the pig) Then you can begin chopping it up, harvesting the edible bits and packaging them. If you ever buy meat at the store after it's been processed you'd notice it's actually quite hard to separate the fat with a knife. you need a sharp blade and a fairly steady hand and that's with modern made cutlery. Now imagine doing that to a pig that is being processed by you, how sharp than knife/cleaver needs to be and how mindful you need to be to cut off precise pieces off. I go hunting every other summer or so and it's tradition to buy and slaughter a pig for thanksgiving and Christmas. I can't imagine having to be a real butcher back in the day with no AC and having to hydrate on tea or beer because purifying water can take hours and pounds of fuel.

speeddemon847 that was a perfect explanation of this whole process. I could picture having to do everything while reading your comment and I feel tired.

What I didn't get of this movie is why after D.D. Lewis risked to mess his leadership babysitting Di Caprio publicly and enclosing to establish a father-son relation with a thug he never knew... after all of this... when he discovered his betrayal... he left him without killing that lil viper. This just has no sense. You can call this kind of critics "Sean Bean style" just if you are giving wider plot options. If a movie has to be stupid, nonsense, unrealistic to be filmed... I call this ideological tyranny, and you are to be blamed as well as old Nazi and Commie dictatorships. I pretend a quote of realism, or, better, a quote of rational/fisiological winning behaviours from Cinematographical workers. I pretend it. I have the right to be placed in the position of choosing if I'm going to see a child/teen fantasy/onirical movie, or a fiction who reminds me that I am not a kid, that Freudian psychology could have had some usefulness several times ago, but not these days... and that, at the same time, it's useful for entertaining purposes. Avoiding these critics would mean to recognize that an Hi-Fi playing some trip hop instrumentals in your bedroom while some wild silent divas are playing an hardcore version of Salomè will ALWAYS be better than wasting your time to be brainwashed by priest-ass-licking-screenplayers even if your cock is hurting after your eleventh fuck per day and you are starting to feel an employee. Am I crystal clear? Am I crystal clear? This is a monolgue. Suckers.

None of what you wrote makes any sense. It sounds as though you took several different types of drugs, and then sat in front of the computer to type a barrage of vapid nonsense in a ridiculous attempt to sound deep.
