love your videos! does anyone know if you can manually adjust the automation values rather than just using the drag feature to place them? not sure if everyone has this problem but it's sometimes difficult to drag the point to the exact db and timeline location that i want, and i would like to be able to set a point and then manually type in the exact setting i need

Thanks for this. I am trying to figure out the best initial settings for recording a trombone using a Shure SM-57 dynamic mic through a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 interface.

Butting in here.... Geoff Emerick - the Beatles engineer for Rubber Soul and Revolver-thru Pepper broke so many EMI Rules it's not funny - but they worked. One of his tricks for recording the horns of For No One and Got To Get You Into My Life was to shove the mic up close almost into the bell and use a ton of compression and a peak limiter - BOTH plug-ins of which are available in GB - Plug-Ins> Audio Units>Apple>AU Peak Limiter they have an excellent AU Peak Limiter that will keep everything under control. Then (or before I'd compress first) the compressor has pre-sets that you can run through- find one tames you 'Bone's transient peaks if needed. Should be easy, good luck 🎶🎵🎤

New to garage band. Is there a video you have done that shows how to record a live band performance? In other words, will record all instruments and vocals at the same time and still sound great? Thanks.

I don't i'm afraid. You'd need a pretty hefty interface to do that though, what are you using right now?

Hi, too bad I don't know your name, anyway, I liked the video although it could be longer. I wonder if you could give me a tip how to connect Digitech RP360XP to GarageBand in MacBook Air macOS Ventura 13.2 I see that GarageBand recognizes Digitech as In/Out, even faders are moving but no sound comes out. Cheers!

After starting a project can you still tap tempo? I can't find that option after working in the project.

No, you'd need to enter it manually in the LCD section or change using the Tempo Track.

I keep having this issue with the input monitor level on my Ipad Pro 2018.I am using a Presonus Audiobox USB66 with the Anker interface you used yourself, and no matter what I do I keep hearing the input signal of my plugged in instruments in the Presonus, even if I close Garageband. As soon as I plug the USB connector in the Anker, the signal from the headphone jack is also lost. This way I cannot record as the signal of my instrument is way too loud while recording. The rest of the track simply cannot be heared. When I listen back the recording all levels are OK...But I need to be able to not hear the input level. Anyone have the same issue ? It’s quite frustrating.

It annoys me it opens the last project. Is there a way to set it to open a blank canvas every time?

How do you change an instrument to a sample? I used to be able to do it by going to plugins:AU sampler:Open: then I clicked and selected an instrument. Now it gives an adjustment window but it won’t let me change the instrument to one of my own. I don’t know if this is just a bug but I might have to stop GarageBand and move on to another software if I can’t fix it.

When you say change the instrument to one of your own, you mean importing a sample or sound using the cog at the bottom of the layers and zones window?
