I can't believe I made it!
This video is all about Cladding. First the batons need to be installed, then the solid wood cladding. I'll show you all the steps I took and hero you to avoid the pitfalls.
The last step in completing the Exterior.
I hope you are enjoying the build so far.

The look you gave at the end, just before "...ah, it's miserable out here", was just priceless. Pride and a deserved sense of achievement in a job well done. I'm sure all of us subscribers are really chuffed for you. All that hard work and effort (on your own) in creating a great looking workshop, and in such a short time. And add on all the hours researching, planning, buying materials, transporting them to the site... all the things we don't see. Really looking forward now to see how you now fit the inside out. Again, well done, Mark.

As with everything, totally just off the cuff talking. It really was a horrible day. Well, apart from finishing the build. And thank you for yet another lovely comment. These are what have spurred me on through this. The inside is like a pet project of sorts now. I get to make it absolutely tailored to my needs. Now if I could only decide on that that is lol.

Mark, I finally found the time to view the completed outside building video. In the photo, I would have thought it was built by a professional crew if I hadn't seen your other videos. It looks darn nice! You have to remember that nothing is ever perfect & most of the time only the artist knows where his mistakes are. You learned lots of information building the structure, now have fun laying out the inside layout & building what you may need for workshop accessories. I don't know what England has for available power tools, but have you considered getting a bandsaw rather than a table saw? They both can do most of the same cuts. A bandsaw is much safer to be around & you already have a cordless circular saw & the Kreg cutoff jig for it.
@startmaking1
@startmaking1 8 ай бұрын
Thank you Bill. Really appreciate the comment. I have toured myself over what type of saw to get for 6 months now and Im still not sure. Even a track saw and MFt table have come into the conversation. You are right about safety and I bet it is also quieter. In truth I want both but which to get first is an issue. I may have to look at dust collection as if I dont get the table saw, then I have to do some cuts with the circular saw and that is super messy.

Workshop is looking great Mark. You must well proud of yourself. Personally I would of staggered the end joins rather than keep them together. Hiring a nail gun for the weekend would make things easier and quicker. And get someone to help you. Don't kill yourself doing it and makes the job easier. Lastly know when to call it a day , as you know you make daft mistakes when you're tired. Keep up the great work 👍

@startmaking1
@startmaking1 8 ай бұрын
Great question Gordon. The electrics are finally in and so next I need to finish painting. That video will be insulating and the practical bits. Then the fit out starts. But it will be a little slow as I want to make a workbench and the walls will be French cleat. Im not really planning on getting a huge amount of tools and so benches around the walls are not in my plan at the start. But I do need a dust collection solution as I plan to get a small table saw.

Once I have painted (which I hate), then a workbench and French cleat system is imminent. Electrician comes end of the week. Well, comes again, they have done the first fit. More sockets than you can shake a stick at. Ironic really as all the tools I own are battery lol.

@@startmaking1 Hi Mark ,never have to many socket's in the work shop.people say too many sockets over load the circuit ,that's nonsense ,in my workshop I've 20 outlets 2 fuse spurs 4 single sockets and 14 double sockets on a ring main at the end of the day it dose not mater how many it's all down to convenience and no trailing cables on the floor or bench and apart from that you can only use one power tool or tool at a time there is no risk of over load. thak's for reply ,take care

That was my thoughts. I may end up with one trailing cable to the work bench but only if I decide to sink a table saw into it and have the extraction. Wanted sockets in the floor but after more consideration ,decided against it.

Well done Mark. It’s a great sense of satisfaction to build your own workshop. A shed is for housing the garden kit, a workshop is where the magic happens. Hindsight is 20/20 but don’t focus on the mistakes, it’s by making those that we learn. Inside will come as an organic process with builds supporting the kit you have now. That will also change when you replace it. As long as there’s 5 main things in there you can please yourself. 1. A cut off switch to shut down kit when your in there on your own and an accident occurs. 2. Dust extraction. 3. A first aid kit (always getting splinters). 4. A brew kit (milk in a flask). 5. A big locker to store your bags of enthusiasm. (You’ve plenty of that so make it big mate). Best of luck mate. Wayne
@startmaking1
@startmaking1 8 ай бұрын
Lovely sentiment. Let me see if I have planned the 5. 1, yes, electrician was surprised when I asked but I know that I am the sort that needs a kill switch to avoid mistakes. 2. this is one thing that I will be spending on. Not scrimping. 3. didn't have one in the old shed and was always wishing I did. I seem to find chisels the hard way. 4. I take my tea black, so that is easier. 5, lol, I may need another shed for storage. Thank you Wayne.

lighting is still a big issue for me. I feel I have the sound somewhat sorted but lighting and having a standard setup so I can film whenever I want and it doesnt look different from a few hours earlier is the issue. So far I have just covered every window and have 2 seats of lights. Spots for just pottering around the workshop and my LED panels for filming. So I never adjust the LED settings and just have them off when not filming. It is working so far but I dont really know hoe to adjust the camera to look as good as some people have theirs and that is frustrating. We will get there though. Slow and steady.

@@startmaking1 I can relate : my current workshop is smaller than your previous one and I'll be moving into a 36square meter one in a year and it's hard to get into it😅 Think about what your current work flow is and how it can fit in it. I still think that the placement of your sockets is critical. I intend to put sockets on the ceiling and in the floor when I start my build next year. As I dont want extensions running all over the place. They are untidy and dangerous. Im sure you sparky will have some good ideas about placement. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
@startmaking1

agreed. I have got 4 in the middle of the ceiling and 3 doubles on both long walls. 2 doubles on the short walls and 4 more in the corners for lights. I didn't do any on the floor, not that it is a bad idea, more that I have not decided if I am going to floor on the floor so to speak so I have opted against them. I will regret that, I know.

That looks amazing. You really practiced what you preach. Do some research and start making. About the featherboard. I am no expert. But I think the nail or screw should go through the top part. That way the overlap will hide the fixing.
@startmaking1

Starting was the most uncomfortable step in all honesty. Especially when you are not experienced. You are right about the weatherboard I think but I was more conscious about getting a lot of meat to avoid splitting rather than hiding the nail. Dealers choice I guess.

@startmaking1
@startmaking1 8 ай бұрын
Hi Paul. Thank you. The wastage I think is part of the difference between a planner and someone like me. That said, so far I have 8 planters from some of the waste and am planning a wood store from the cladding off cuts. I am determined that nothing is just thrown away. Costings will definitely be included. Video coming once the interior is done.

Great job on that, Mark! Also, just a technical suggestion for the videos - I've noticed that a lot of the videos have the audio sometimes playing only on the left or right channels in portions. Not sure which video editing software software you're using, but you can probably fix that by forcing the audio channels in your editing software to "mono". Still, great stuff and love the videos!
@startmaking1
@startmaking1 8 ай бұрын
Thank you. You are spot on. Newly recorded videos should have the sound fixed. I think it was because the mics were recording an emergency channel too. I have changed that and it should sort the issues out. finger crossed. I really do hate the tech stuff.

Towards the end I was thinking "Put some planters under the windows to hide your 'mistakes." Next moment the view of the finished project. Spooky or what? By the way, never lose sight of the fact that you have built a pretty smart looking (what can only be called) shed. Cosmetic mistakes are nothing to worry about as long as the end is up to the job it's intended for. You know where your mistakes are, nobody else cares.
