I have an Electra 55 and on my model, the height adjustment is set by placing the back (rear) of the lever plate against the desired height. Looks like you may be doing it from the middle of the lever (5:37 ish) which is why it's cutting longer than you expect.

Yes as you say the grass box is on the long side.Made to look stylish know doubt.Paintwork wouldn’t last to long with my smallish lawn. I’ll stick to my Atco cylinder mower I think, it gets used and abused but keeps going year after year. Thanks for the video.

I felt the cantilever of the box also was helping steady and weight down the front roller too felt well balanced

The mower when it spins up sounds a bit like a van der graff machine from my science class days! Just need a few sparks to fly from it now 😂. The height of cut comparison with the rotary is interesting. I've always maintained that the equivalent height of cut using a rotary is lower than the height set by about 10-12mm. I think this is mainly due to the rapid spinning of a rotary blade creating an up draft standing the blades up straight whereas on a cylinder the front roller bends the blades over very slightly and so aren't standing straight when they meet the blades. Cool machine 😎

Just had my first cut with my new Allett Liberty 35 and like you with the swardman found exactly the same thing with the height of cut which is to be expected. Also its difficult to compare noise levels but the Liberty is I'd say very quiet too! Battery definitely the way forwards 🔋😁

I think the cylinder mower cuts looks so much better than rotary. Have been looking into buying one last year. Perhaps will buy one this year. Not sure about electric though, I like the neighbourhood to know I'm cutting the lawn 🙉

I just laid a new zoysia lawn and got a Ambrogio robot and I have to say not a huge fan of the chaotic lines a robot mower leaves! I think I’m gonna have to upgrade again to one of these bad boys :)

Looks great like the colour also succumbed to Swardman albeit a petrol one 45cm also ! Looking forward to using it not sure will go much lower than 30 mm .

Such a beautiful mower. I always have the exact same thought process as you: ok, let’s cut it at this height, ok, maybe a little lower, maybe a little lower than that. 😂 Having said that, I’m sure you’re right about rotary mowers getting the heights wrong

Surely it wasn’t taking much off the subsequent passes because the grass blades were folded down? If you went against the stripes would it not have then cut it down more? Get a ruler out after the pass to see if the hoc is accurate.

Seems a faff to change the cutting height. On my flymo it's a five level lever on the side of the wheeled machine to change the setting. The other issue I noticed with your machine was the handle didn't seem too strong/secure. Looks like your grass was dry, even though it was very damp for my first cut, I was happy with the result. Started and completed with the machine in the highest setting before reducing the height to number two to get a pretty good first cut all over. Unlike your's, my lawn is at three levels, slope at the very rear, flat raised terraced lawn and then the front lawn section goes from flat to a banked grass section and again into a flat section above. If you think of an S you'll get the idea, hence I find a four wheeled mower makes cutting easiest.

This is definitely not a flymo! Typically the HOC will stay the same bar adjustment for maybe really hot weather or winter. Was the first time I had used it

As I said it seemed that changing the cutting height was not straightforward. Presume you're "testing" the machine for the manufacturer.

Wow its rated at 67 decibels which is even below a vacuum cleaner. usual Lawnmowers are 80 decibels plus!

This grass is easily double the length after I cut 40mm with the rotary. I think it hardly doesn't do much because all of the blades are just bent to the bottom?

Great machine , will you cross cut as the season progresses or stick to just up and down as shown , I cut bowling greens and grass tennis courts and cross cut every second mow bearing in mind I cut three times a week , I do my own lawn weekly, Thanks

Can't really compare like for like as I didn't have the flagship model so different leagues but its joy to use and the cut quality from the 6 blade was outstanding.

It would have been nice to hear the machine a bit more (given that it's electric and clearly quiet) and also see how much the cylinder was removing with each decrease in cut height. Other than demanding you hire an octopus to help you with sound & camera work, I really enjoyed seeing your new bit of kit. On a completely different set of videos, a friend was (unfairly) very sceptical over the impartiality of people on KZfaq. I'm agnostic over whether a vlogger is sponsored or gifted kit. Generally most vloggers are very transparent over the products they review. Clearly a Swardman is a very nice lawnmower - no question. Did you buy it (I assume it wasn't sent to you - would that be nice ?) and what made you chose it over say an electric Allett Liberty or indeed other alternatives ?

Personal preference really, I always enjoy electric cordless tools and should have less overall maintenance. I don't know the tech specs but I guess the petrol could be more powerful for verticutting and scarifying but I've seen the electra work great on those jobs too.

Allett Liberty 43 is cheaper, easy to adjust cut height, easy to change cartridge to rake, scarifier etc, and uses battery that also fits the Greenworks range of garden tools. No contest!

I normally don't go below 20mm but you can cut grass on golf grass to a few mm like 4mm
