Video Index below. This is catered to a first time user of the Garmin Edge (530, 830, or 1030). I show you step by step how to connect your Garmin Edge to the Garmin Connect App and how to use Garmin Express on your computer to update and sync your Garmin Edge. There are links below to great videos on how to customize your data screens and tweak some of the functionality of the Garmin Edge.
It is the same setup whether you are using the Garmin Edge 530, 830, or 1030 (or even one of the older models). I will have you up and riding in 15 minutes with this step by step guide.
If you have already tried to manually pair your Garmin Edge with your phone via Blutooth and failed, then I would recommend you do the following:
1. Delete the Garmin Connect app off of your phone
2. REMOVE the Blutooth connection in "known connections" ("forget" it)
3. Factory Reset the Garmin Edge
4. If you have already installed Garmin Express, REMOVE the Garmin Edge if it is already listed there.
5. Follow my video from the beginning and you will be up and running very soon!

I've ridden on long and short trips for years, but always shied away from the GPS units, even though I have a handheld Magellan for hunting and hiking. Planning a long trip for spring and figured I'd get a head start on the setup. I was so frustrated that i was ready to send it back until I stumbled across your video. Tells me what I need to know, where the others get all bogged down in trivial features I don't need... Thanks for the effort!

Thanks for taking time to make the video. I have used phone Strava the last year and of course all my road buddies daily say "get a Garmin" Finally caved in and got one and as a 46 year old non tech guy i feel sooo lost even with basic stuff. I hope my $400 wasn't a waste haha...phone Strava is sooo easy. I live in Korea now but hearing you talk makes me miss my North Carolina home & friends. Cheers!

Greetings from stateside! Yep, the Garmin is nice. I love my Garmin Fenix 6 as well as the Garmin 830. And the Garmin app auto syncs everything right up to Strava so you never miss a beat there. Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by the channel. I lived in Durham, NC when I was young and went to elementary school there until the 4th grade. Pretty much lived in MS every since then :)

Yeah, I once wanted to try and get rid of the accent, but now I just embrace it :-). Hope you found the video useful. Starting tomorrow I am videoing my journey to learn to ride a unicycle. Will be a little different than my normal video but it’s something I always wanted to do

Excellent video, very helpful. I have an iPhone and an Apple laptop. Towards the end you went through exporting a FIT file. I could not find "Export" on my laptop. Any suggestions? I did download it and then drag the file to my Garmin.

Hi. Just came across the channel and video. Just bought a new road bike and Garmin Edge 530. Moved my Garmin Varia from old to new bike and new bike has a built in power meter in the crank. I thought I could just go into settings and sensors and add those two items but got a message that said I need to be in pairing mode and am not sure what to do. I went into Garmin Connect be seemed to be getting hung up there. I'm sure I am missing something but any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks, dude. I am looking into buying one of these and your video was really helpful. Nobody else's videos I saw showed the web interface, Garmin Express, or a view of courses on the actual device after uploading. You showed and explained every process in detail. I appreciate it. You said that you can transfer data to the device from your laptop (from Garmin Connect?) if they are both on the same wifi network, right? I don't use a mobile phone and I usually use Linux rather than Windows or Mac, so that sounds like it would be the most comfortable option for me, or copying .fit files after mounting the device's storage.

Hey great video help me out a lot. Question do you know how to set it up to where I can just free ride in it records everything without me preloading a course? It keeps putting A-line with a greater symbol on the screen when I'm trying to ride. Thanks for your time in any help
@lifewithtimmyd7641

Hey JJ, when you start riding, you can simply press the button in the bottom right corner and it will change from a RED blinking square to a Green triangle. The triangle will be visible for a few seconds but that tells you that you are now recording. If at any time during the ride, you need to pause, simply push the same button (bottom right corner) and it will then give you the option, to SAVE, PAUSE, or DISCARD (I think that is right). If you push pause, then pushing it again after you start to ride again will resume the recording. When you are done, simply push the button and and select the SAVE option. That ride will get syncronized with Garmin Express the next time it connects to wifi. Hope this helps!

So helpful even though I have Garmin Edge Explore 2. I am frustrated planning my own courses, Garmin doesn’t use cycle routes and I hate cycling on main roads. (I’m 71 years old!! ) Any advice on planning own courses would be appreciated. Thanks.
@lifewithtimmyd7641
@lifewithtimmyd7641 9 ай бұрын
hello @mrsspidermanband! You can use Google Earth to draw any route you want to go. You literally use the line (path) tool and draw the entire route you want to ride. You need to convert that file to a GPX file so that it can be imported into the Garmin Edge. In Google Earth Desktop, after you have created the complete route, you will see it in "My Places" on the left side of your screen. You will then right mouse click on that file and choose "Save As" to save the KML file to a folder on your computer. When you save it give it a meaningful name. NOw you go to kml2gpx.com/ to convert the KML to a GPX file. Once you have the GPX file you should be able to import that into the Garmin Edge. I have not created my own route but I am 99.9% sure that will get you taken care of. Hope that helps.

How many Saved Courses can you have sync? My buddy keeps saying he is only getting 2 courses at a time.

Can you clarify? Do you mean can you sync 3+ cameras recording the same course? The answer to that is yes. Let me know if you meant something else.

What is sharp bend warning and why do you have to turn it off?
@lifewithtimmyd7641
@lifewithtimmyd7641 3 жыл бұрын
Mario, it is just a warning that can alert you if there is a "sharp bend in the road". For road biking it is not needed. For motorcycle riding at high speeds, yes it would be beneficial. I guess for someone road biking down hills at high speeds on a winding road, then it could be useful there if your route will include very sharp turns. But where I live I have no use for it. Hope this helps.

very good, just got mine today - i don't have a smart phone...so, what purpose is the wifi if i have to keep plugging in the 830 to my laptop via the USB cable? thanks
@lifewithtimmyd7641
@lifewithtimmyd7641 3 жыл бұрын
The wifi is so that the Garmin Edge will auto update your ride data to your Garmin account. If you set it up to connect to your home wifi then you do NOT have to plug it up to your laptop to sync your ride data. After it uploads to Garmin Connect (website) then you can see all of your data for the ride on your phone/tablet. Hope that makes sense.

After my second Garmin Edge 520 died unexpectedly I decided to try something different - the Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt instead of the Garmin 530. Boy! I'm glad I did. kzfaq.infoUgkxXZCtB-wGdHVTBSz8RswePK5vllHNi06N The display on the Wahoo Bolt is much easier to read. I like the configuration of the display more (up to 7 items visible on page 1 without scrolling and the first item chosen is larger characters than the next 3 rows that have pairs of items (still very readable). I also like the configurable item selections. The Bolt synced with my Garmin ANT+ Speed sensors on both bikes easily so no additional investment was required there. While the rated battery life is a couple hours less than the Garmin 520/530, I easily get a weeks worth of 1+ hour rides before recharging (and it's never really low on charge). At the end of a ride syncing to the Wahoo app, Strava, and Apple Health app is painless.
