10 managers fired this season and it's still not over. I think it's a disturbing trend. Giving managers time usually works out for teams, although there has to be a red line you shall not tolerate when it comes to failures. Moyes crossed it a long time ago.

Why the fuck do you think United's football was going to get better Gary by sticking with Moyes? There was nothing stopping Moyes from trying out good football and a developed approach to tactics this season. He was always going to continue on with the jurassic tactics and negative approach to games that he always had. The #moyesin crowd had no argument. To want him to stay was blind faith ignoring the realism and facts that the man was not going to adapt to a big club.

As a Liverpool fan it's annoying to see the whole "Rodgers finished 7th and was given a chance" argument. Rodgers took over when we was in trouble, stabilised us, finishing similar places we had been the past few season, now look. Moyes on the other hand took over when United were 1st and arguably the best team in the world, now look. If anything Rodgers done the opposite to Moyes.

man utd got pretty lucky in fergie's last season, they were an ageing side and were helped by Man City and Chelsea underperforming and Robin Van Persie digging them out the shit on several occassions. The Man U defence that season leaked alot of goals, but Van Persie's scoring made up for that regularly.

Its not about the players? Managers don't play the game they just find the right players and they make the right formation I think moyes was testing stuff out at man u but the players over there suck with the exception of Juan Mata. Who was boughten by moyes. Moyes deserved more time and the fans should've supported him Ferguson saw where this club was headed so he left he knew it wasn't good enough and left moyes to take care of it who knows maybe next season he would've gotten man u back on the top 4

regardless of what he did at previous clubs he's a good manager but united wont be tasting any success in the foreseeable future just like liverpool its going to take 2 or 3 seasons minimum even if he has a transfer budget of 200 mill to persuade players to come, united will have to offer mega wages and on top of that moyes gave rooney a crazy 300k a week contract so any new players will want wages around that mark as they will see themselves as better than rooney as well as this united need like 8 or 9 players minimum and they will not have any time to gel because of the world cup so they will have to hit the ground running from game 1 there are to many variables at stake here and if any united fans think that next season they'll be anywhere near city, chelsea or liverpool who have a stable foundation and will improve upon what they already have they should rethink there asperations.

This is the most competitive league in the world. Not only there are 6 teams fighting for champions league football every year, but even the middle table teams can afford top class footballers, so you have to react quickly if you're failing, or it'll take years to bounce back- as the case of liverpool shows.

Man United had weaknesses last season these weren't dealt with in the summer. That's either Moyes fault or someone above him. They surely can't have expected Moyes to walk in and make Fergie's team win the league. Fergie got what he did out of those players because his word was law and young or new players knew there was no messing with the longest serving manager in football. Fergie also still had Scholes and Giggs available to bring seniority to Man United. I had hoped United would stick with Moyes and show they were different to other clubs and maybe in the summer remove the weak links and bring in something different, something Moyes would work with. Chelsea's success with turning over managers has been due to constantly bringing in new players but they've paid the price in terms of premier league successes and media speculation. If United want Chelsea style success they can join the hiring, firing and spending game but if they want to continue their legacy they need to stand by their next manager and fund a rebirth not a revolution.

Managers should be given more time but I disagree with Gary in the idea that players have to take responsibility because ultimately it is a manager's job to motivate his team to get results. Your players won't be motivated if you blame them for every single poor result. This however makes it even more difficult for new managers because they have to get to know new players and it is very hard to motivate players you do not know. That's what has happened with Moyes and this has lead to poor performances and a sacking. The idea is that managers should build a successful team and if they are not allowed to do this then success of English teams will be poor. Less and less emphasis will be placed on young players and therefore we will generate fewer English talents and have to buy in more and more foreign players. In my opinion the FA should rectify this by imposing a managerial transfer window between seasons giving managers a chance to develop their squad throughout the season and therefore protecting managers against these types of sackings.

Brendan Rodgers and Ferguson were given time cause they came into sides that were caught in decadence and had to stabilise them, establish foundations and start to grow. David Moyes took charge of the enligsh champions PLUS Fellaini & Mata + Januzaj. It's an unfair, sneaky argument to compare Moyes' situation to Rodgers or Ferguson's.

Ferguson went 3 season without winning anything when he first started. He also finished in 11th place the first season he was in charged; the seasons before that, united was floating between 3-4 but they were winning minor trophies. I'm not saying that Moyes was a great manager but if Ferguson was given so much time, moyes deserved at least 2 seasons.

spot on by gary. moyes should have been given time to build up his own squad and get them to play the football he wants them to play. he inherited a very average squad to say the least. after he 'rebuilds', then he can be judged. look at brendan rodgers at liverpool. he was given time. he built up his own squad, got them to play the football he wants them to play and they're going to win the league now. remember how shit they were when rodgers first came in? now look at them.

I think both Moyes and the players should get blame for the decline; Moyes is not used to handle a big club such as Man U, but I think he is a good manager who knows what he's doing, but incompetent in the transfer market. Juan Mata isn't really a find, Juan Mata was seeked by big clubs waaay before Moyes became manager, he just had to dig in the treasure chest. I don't think Moyes would ever adapt to the club at all, and Man U deserves an experienced manager such as Van Gaal who doesn't bow down to out-of-form players and gives Hernández and Welbeck playtime, players who are actually decent and still fairly young with a lot of potential. Fans should also be able to criticize Ferguson for picking Moyes and not always worshipping him like some sort of diety.

Surely when ManU signed Moyes who had no experience in managing big name clubs with no experience in Champions league, they must have looked at long term team building with 7 years contract. If they wanted a quick result, they should have signed Mourinho, Van gaal etc They can only blame themselves

As a United fan personally I think sacking Moyes was the correct decision. he is a nice bloke but clearly was way out of his depth. many people compare him to brendon rogers last season and where he's brought liverpool now all because they gave him time. what they don't realise is rogers arrived at liverpool who were rock bottom and destabilized and although had a slow start built them slowly and put a string of decent performances in and turned it around. Moyes arrived to a team that just blitzed the league and won it by 11 points and im sorry but getting old or not players do not loose that much form in just a couple of months when was the last time you saw any top team win the league and then drop drastically to mid table in a few months that comes down to poor coaching and management. his tactics were medieval and he always never seemed to have a plan B or C during matches. also the fact when united were loosing he always looked dejected and slumped on his seat. you cant do that as a manager. if you are loosing you should be on the touchline barking orders and encouraging your players to keep fighting not sitting in the dugout with your arms folded. im not even going to go into the background staff such as steve round they should never have been appointed in the first place again another key factor in uniteds decline. a final thing to say is that moyes never got to know this team. sky reported he changed his starting 11 over 50 times. he should have believed in his players and been more consistent with his lineups especially with the defence. look at chelsea for example terry and cahill have started the past 10 games that is consistant. anyway rant over I thank moyes for giving the job a shot but it was a job you were not cut out for and I wish him well in his future endeavors.

if you want team spirit/its never a good idea to publicly announce Rooney is on £ 300 k a week.Moyes didnt fail,the players failed him,but moving on utd have made a smart move in giving Giggs a go,i would go step further a bring a holy trinity scholes and g neville as his assistants.Sometimes the answers to all your problems can be staring u in the face but u cant see it,these 3 know the club inside and out,and they will quickly know who plays for the club and who plays for themself,s.

If Moyes had shown any tactical,overall football understanding in his tactics,line ups any hint that he knows what his doing then it would have been a different story but he didn't have a fooking clue about anything...The man just wawed his hands on the sidelines and didn't try to develope a good relationship with the players..He fooking bashed them at post match interviews for no reason..I mean how the hell did that idiot think players would response to that and his middle age tactics,coaching that only took their game backwards while at the same time being some slave master..

Moyes was the architect of his own demise. Promoting guys like Neville and Giggs ahead of their ability was a mistake. Giggs in particular was a grave error: a player can not be loyal to the manager as a coach and still remain a player. I have no doubt the moment Moyes looked like he was going to flounder Giggs looked after himself and his position within the clique: with one eye on the future. That is natural and obviously the only outcome of appointing at 20+ year serving player to the coaching staff without first requiring them to retire from playing and so removing them from the 'brosphere'. Let's be brutal here: Giggs could never be trusted to be your 'man in the dressing room' when he wanted the job for himself and likely had little respect for someone who hadn't even won a trophy. Let alone been appointed (quite obviously) as Fergusons's Jonah. Allowing the better coaches who knew the club and the players backwards to leave was also a mistake. I firmly believe there is a lot of truth to what Meulensteen said about how the coaches pretty much ran the day to day under Ferguson towards the end. Allowing all the knowledge and experience to depart with Ferguson was insane. Maybe they wanted to go? Who knows. I'd have fought tooth and nail to keep the entire structure intact myself! If there was one or two bad eggs or egos to cull, fine, but removing the whole first team coaching setup adapted to winning and getting the maximum performances out of ageing and/or mediocre squad players and with the confidence of those players was bonkers. Insane would be replacing them with 2nd rate coaches who don't know the club, the players, or the traditions. He should have kept it stum: at least for the first transitional season. I don't think Moyes understood that at a big club you need to delegate and that personality from the manager is not what is needed. Indeed the more hands on you are, the more your mistakes, flaws and vanity shows. You need to step back and show yourself only at the right times and in the right light. Certainly attempting to be a manager, assistant manager and first team coach is not the way to go. At a smaller club, sure, but at a big club you need exquisite attention to detail and you NEED top class specialist coaches who can deliver results. Moyes clearly didn't inspire the players to perform with his dour tactical philosophy and that was suicidal at a club like Utd. You don't go out to get a draw or win 1-0 at Old Trafford. Its better to lose 5-4 and look at the ageing defence than win by a goal or draw (losing to anyone in the Premier league except City or Chelsea should be unthinkable at home). Even if you think that a narrow defeat or a draw is a realistic result actually going out and playing for it from kick off is insane: the negativity undermines belief and belief is what drove United on to that title the season before as much as ability. Basic psychology. How could Moyes fail to appreciate that? Millions of pounds in salary, surely he's got to have the basics of sport psychology nailed down?? He clearly didn't know what to do with RVP or the midfield. Yes, he was let down by the numpty handling transfers in the summer and didn't get who he wanted and had to lump it at the last minute with a player (Fellaini) I doubt he really wanted/needed. However, that does not excuse the pre-historic tactics. I called it during the pre-season when he had them playing every single ball down the flanks and asking them to cross remorselessly when you could see that the players wanted to cut inside and/or run with the ball at goal. They looked better when they played more balls through the middle of the park towards the end but by then it was too late: he'd already lost the dressing room. Playing 4 number 10's (and asking them all to play long/diagonal balls!) who were all running in to each other's zones and causing havoc between themselves and the headless chickens Cleverly/Carrick and Rafael (I have never seen a worse player in a United shirt) was painful to watch. If a player does not adhere to your tactical plan, you drop him. Van Gaal won't tolerate Rooney roaming all over the place. He won't tolerate full backs who go AWOL. Why did Moyes? Moyes will feel hard done by but in truth I don't believe he was. He was given a full season, including pre-season, and he didn't adapt. Those saying 'he needed time' are confused as to what Manchester United is. It is a billion pound business and you can't expect time to learn how to run a billion pound business. You should know already! I'm sorry for the man, as it must have been hard on his nerves and his self belief, but ultimately he was not the right appointment.

Why was Robin Van Persie injured all season ?. He had three injury free seasons at two clubs in a row before this season. Why ?. SPOILER : David Moyes brought new training methods (along with new staff to OT) that put an emphasis on lung busting running and far less ball work. This was noted as a problem by the Holland national team staff before the season and look what happens. It ALL comes down to the manager. Sir Alex = wins the league by 11 points Moyes = 29 points worse off than last season having spent 70m
@italianplastic23
@italianplastic23 10 жыл бұрын
are you kidding ....Van persie is notorious for being out injured ...even at arsenal. You dont blame the injuries on extra "lung busting" training sessions. I know how many points Man Utd were better off last season and i explained to you ...those points were made up by Van Persie ..the rest of utd's team were average and have proved it again. Young , Buttner , Raph , Ferd ( too old ) , Vidic ( no form ) , Carrick ( not a game winner ) , Hernandez, Jones ...and Fellaine ( lost his nerve ) ...These guys are ALL not good enough and are all fergie signings ( bar fellaine )
@NefariousVirtuoso88
@NefariousVirtuoso88 10 жыл бұрын
Keva Rosenburg RVP had THREE injury free seasons before David Moyes came along. Young, Buttner, Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Carrick, Hernandez and Jones are ALL champions. Several of them have won NUMEROUS titles and a Champions League. They were good enough to win the league by 11 points last season but 29 points worse this season under David Moyes. Now all the players are SUDDENLY MASSIVELY worse or the new manager is to blame. You are in denial. No part of David Moyes management was cause for optimism.

***** yeah ...players get older and performances drop ..samuel etoo multiple champs league winner has struggled at Chelsea .. Players Can get worse after a season ( why does everyone think this is so impossible ) Young, Jones , Cleverly were not much good to begin with and like i keep saying if RVP wouldve been injured last season ...the same thing wouldve happened with UTD. everyone knows Man Utd wernt at their best ( even though they won the prem leagie last year ) , everyone knows they had to strengthen this season. More factors are that Liverpool became a Good team this season ( rogers 2nd year in charge ) and everton ( moyes team ) became good too ( Man utd wouldve finished 4th if not for the improvement of those two teams. also now fergie has left , Man utd became a target for referees to award pens left , right and center at old trafford....as if it was payback for all the years they could not make those kinds of descisions at Old Trafford. Witch Hunt from all Angles ...( even within the club )

Keva Rosenburg This is impossible because it doesn't apply to the WHOLE FUCKING SQUAD. A few players will get worse Ferdinand and Evra but nearly EVERYBODY has got worse. LAME EXCUSE. RVP wasn't at the club a few years ago but we won league titles or finished in the top four. ANOTHER LAME EXCUSE. You literally have no argument.
