if there's a game that truly stands the test of time, it would be Dark Legacy. The game play alone is phenomenal and downright fun. even 20 years later. it has an amazing soundtrack and levels (minus the forest because those trees and orange crocodiles sucked) but did not detract at all from my overall enjoyment- Spider Queen was my favorite boss to farm back in the day. This game was pure underrated gold.

Definitely miss this game after my brother sold the PS2 copy for cigarettes. It would be great if Steam could get this, and Champions of Norrath, as well as Return to Arms. Complete with the capability to play with friends as well.

Definitely. There needs to be more games like these so that people can play together in their own homes. If not in the same living room like it used to be. But, for the fact that it creates that particular level of bonding that can help strengthen social structures rather than disintegrate them.

You're right, dude. But do you actually think they'll do it, or at least consider it? Also, who now owns Midway? I didn't see their logo in the latest Gauntlet game, or at least I don't think I did.

I am not exactly sure where the rights to Gauntlet Dark Legacy went to, but, I imagine it went to the same people who had developed the most recent Gauntlet addition to the named franchise. Although I'm not exactly sure. What would be great, on top of also implementing the original content of this game for everyone to play. (Because you can still make people pay for this game, I'm quite sure. Let alone the act of preserving the game itself. For instance, allow the capability of being able to choose which console, or playing the original arcade version. That would be epic.) I'd figure with some of the right amount of nudging, it shouldn't be too hard for them to scoop up the files from all of the formats, and dump them into a game everyone could download on Steam, play together as friends, or even random people on Steam. I'm sure that this game has touched many lives in it's existence, and it's involvement in certain modes of nostalgia is real. (Hopefully they wouldn't come up with some excuse that GDL would take away from their new brain child, because it probably would. It'd be like the older brother that takes the controller away to show you something, but never gives it back.)

you could try PCSX2 to emulate it on your PC but i don't think it's compatible with local multiplayer.

Actually the Ghost Town track is the track i hear so many times because my brother and I usually farm health and gold on this stage because its easy and theres a decent amount of gold and health pick ups for early game. Later in the game when we are high level we just farm boss battles for gold

Fave tracks: Sumner's Tower Ghost Town Castle Courtyard Castle Armory Sky Shipyard (this sounds quintessentially Gauntlet to me) Fissure Carnival Haunted Grounds The entire soundtrack is beautiful but those are the ones that really stand out to me! So many fond memories of this game. I always loved the little stories behind the realms: Province, Castle and Dream are my favourites!

I'd love to work on a remake or port of this game one day, get it out for PC. Online multiplayer, enhanced graphics etc... Wish I had the time to do it now, but programming is so time consuming.

No need - you can use the Dolphin emulator to run it in HD and with online multiplayer.

HD applies to the resolution only with emulators, and the possibility to add post screen shader effects. I was talking about increasing the model polygon count & texture resolution, and making it native to the PC format, rather than emulated. Native is always > than emulating, unless the port is crap.

TheStolenBattenberg Well yes, emulation isn't as good, but I haven't had any trouble and the older graphics aren't bothersome. Was talking to someone who knows a producer of GDL and is trying to find out who owns the IP. So there has been a conversation about a remake, but it's still wishful thinking right now.

I still remember a lot of the music in this game. There's some real great tracks that play as you go about your fighting and looting. My favorite track is Sumner's Tower, great track to just chill out to.

Castle Courtyard is my bae. I always had a thing for Harpsichords. Also Desecrated Temple is amazing despite not being on this list. I also love Ghost Town as it has that awesome Piano in the level playing the level's theme!

This game is so classic with its design, replayed it this weekend and the game play really holds up. I kinda wish more games felt like this one. Also HOW is the soundtrack this good?? I listen to a lot of ambient fantasy music for running DnD and this is far and away one of the best I’ve ever heard

I'm playing back through this game again now. It's still just as fun as years ago!! The only thing is me and my brother couldn't unlock 1 last hidden character. Those realms to hunt the coins were merciless!! "You have defeated the Dragon and recovered his shard! Continue on your quest to gather all 8 shards to unlock the entrance to the Desecrated Temple!"

This game has the remarkable ability to bring four friends together, but also bring out the worst in a person... It would get heated... friend: "Dude I swear i just bumped into that chest!" other friend: "DON'T GIVE ME THAT SHIT! THAT WAS MY LAST GOD DAMN KEY YOU ASS! I WILL ASSAULT YOU!" As a side note: I still get turned on by the noises the sorceress makes when eating food and getting hit with spikes.
