Factory barrels are still the same for a reason, and by the way all these other “Glock killers”, comparison videos to a Glock, yeah, Glock speaks for itself, regardless of people hate them, they know Glock was done right, if people don’t like don’t buy em buy your other shit, and quit whining!

I got a stainless Glock 20 Storm Lake .40S&W converted barrel. Great fit, no hassles. It DID misfire on rare occasion, 1-2/200 factory FMJ. This was due to the minor 2mm change from a .40 round to a bigger 10mm. I used a new LWD 🐺 Alpha Barrel 9x19mm in my new gen 4 33. It chewed up & burned 250rd of factory 9mm, no misfires or problems. 0. ✅

Funny that when it comes to chamber fit, the movement of the round in the chamber "can hurt accuracy" with the stock barrel. But when it comes to the L2D barrel, that same movement helps with reliability and has an overall better fit, proving that this barrel is far superior to all the others. But remember, it's not biased. Not saying L2D isn't a good barrel; I'm just saying you be honest that you're doing an infomercial instead of making it look like a head to head challenge in which L2D is clearly the winner. If it really was the case, name the other barrels.
@GBGuns
@GBGuns 7 жыл бұрын
+joethecitizen I think you misunderstood about chamber fit. Tighter can increase consistency, but at the expense of reliability. Looser yields the opposite. I've already addressed your other comments in other replies. Thanks for watching. Each of these barrels have their own merit and purpose, as I said in the description this video shows why I chose L2D.
@joethecitizen

I think you misunderstood my comment. I do understand chamber fit. Tighter can increase consistency, yes. But according to your video, the L2D has a looser fit than some of the others, but no, no, no, it's not a bad thing because it helps reliability. But as for this other (unnamed) barrel that has a loose fit, is that a good thing? No, no, no, because this barrel is inferior because it's not as accurate as it could be. I'm glad you've already addressed those other comments, but it's still an infomercial. A true comparison head to head would name all the barrels. Keep it real.

Good video, you made some points which are very relevant when choosing a replacement barrel. I didn't hear you mention anything about rate of twist. I'm NOT at all claiming to be an expert but in my limited experience with aftermarket barrels the rate of twist and rotation makes as much difference in hits to misses as a good lockup. For instance, many "match grade" barrels for Glock 19 have a 1:16 twist, which, in my opinion, is way too slow for standard weight and velocities. I think you would agree that a 1:10 or even 1:8 is much better for match accuracy. Some shooters have no particular preference in left or right twist but I prefer a left twist, especially with heavier loaded ammo. The left twist helps me as a right handed shooter in getting the sights back on target after each shot.

So why not say what barrel x and y are if you're not paid or promoting one barrel over the other?

Actually, I think that you may have been a little off when it came to demonstrating and/or accepting a certain amount 'play' in the chamber. I sensed that you were a bit surprised at the fact that the L2D chamber had as much 'play' as, for instance, the stock barrel assembly. I believe there is an expectation that, upon firing, the casing will swell to fill the chamber, and it's the extractor that breaks it free from the chamber wall so that it can be ejected. A certain amount of play is expected, and is one of the engineering tolerances built into a firearm's chamber. Even with 'play' the accuracy is unaffected, due to the fact that the projectile has already been partially delivered into the barrel proper. Now, I am not a gunsmith, nor do I play one on TV, so I would welcome any correction on my assertion.

Paul - I have a G40 that I set up for stand hunting here in Texas. I wanted to replace the factory barrel with a threaded barrel so I could use a suppressor (I hate wearing ear plugs while hunting or worse yet having permanent hearing damage). I purchased a KKM match threaded ss barrel and couldn't be happier with the performance. Reliability has been 100% and accuracy is slightly better than the factory barrel. The KKM barrel fully supports the chamber and appears to be slightly tighter than the factory barrel.

Barrel accuracy - I am now at the age where my guns are way more accurate than I am. In a defensive pistol, at defensive ranges, I don't really think it matters much
@1Ocqueoc
@1Ocqueoc 7 жыл бұрын
Save your $$. At that distance - its not the barrel, unless you are trying to shoot 9s in a 40 barrel. If I would have to guess, I would say that the gun just doesn't "fit" you very well. Such things can be overcome, with practice. chances are that the biggest factor between the M&P and the Glock .. ESPECIALLY if you have a lot of trigger time on the M&P ... is the difference in grip angles between the 2. As I said, Practice is the key, until shooting the Glock becomes as instinctive to you as the M&P is now.

The glock factory barrel is engineered so as to permit functionality in a combat environment where it would be subjected to dirt, dust, mud etc. if you don’t have to bet your life on it use a “match grade” barrel. Otherwise “ if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Graham; All due respect, @ 7':07" regarding 'case support' (I'd rather say: Case head support, to diminish 'Kaboom' probabilities, quite common on Glock + other brand's 9x19mm pistols), you can clearly see that given ctg is NOT fully chambered, (Roughly 1/16th" short of being fully chambered), which would lead me to suspect a couple issues: >Either that 'X' bbl is short- chambered, (Gunsmith- fit bbl??, just like some Custom barrels). Or.. >The 'X' brand bbl has a shorter 'leade' or throat / groove starting distance. Why I am thinking of it??. Well, I've been a shooting competitor, (USPSA / IDPA among other disciplines..), since mid- 1.990's. In fact, my favorite, (Production Class) revolver is one of my S&W 686-3, 6" bbl, I tuned myself. The other, was a 'Franken- Glock' Gen.3 G17 I myself assembled on a G.3's frame + Custom locking block + 'Lightning' Titanium striker + 3.5lbs connector, and (Believe it or not..) a FACTORY S&W Sigma 4.5" 9x19mm bbl I personally turned down to 'almost' Factory G.17's bbl diameter. (Actually, 0.0025" larger, after polishing it out). Why I did it??; Quite simple, indeed: That particular S&W's Sigma's bbl was machined with S&W's typical FIVE grooved bore, besides being some 0.0015" tighter. (Sigma is long discontinued, probably due to Legal issues between Mr. Gaston Glock vs S&W for 'cloning' his G.17 design /:Patents infringement). All the above said, besides turning it down, I had it's bbl hood and lower lug TIG welded, recontoured / machined + hand fitted (AND re- heat treated) + bore 'fire lapped'. (I'm NO Gunsmith. Just a 'wanna be' ER/ ICU + Medical Examiner, ex- Military MD), sporting / competitive shooter who went into that crazy project, almost three decades ago. The outcome was quite interesting: Groups went from G.17's factory bbls' 3.5" to 4" @ 20 yds, down to ~ 1.75" w/ my handloads. Since It had both 9x19mm + .40 S&W 'kits', (I earned over a couple trophies with said Franken.G-17/22, back in the day..), several shooting buddies got interested in it. Finally I sold that rig when I was relocated to the opposite side of 🌏 due to MD work. Many thanks & Blessings for an interesting review!!. 😇🇺🇲💪🙏🙏🙏🙏

I'm surprised the gs barrel isn't supporting the case completely. It's the main reason for changing a barrel aside from accuracy. The oem glock barrel doesn't support the shell on the bottom and let's the case bulge upon shooting. Makes resizing a bitch for reloading. The double diamond vs barrel is supposed to be more supportive than stock not less. Odd.

Thanks for the response. I am not new to L2D. I have sat with them on a couple of occasions in their offices in SOuth FL. You highlighted what you found impressive with the L2D Barrel, but without knowing what it was being compared to doesnt do it any justice. Comparing it to the Stock Barrel would have suited your goals here. Were all 3 Aftermarket barrels "Match Grade"? I think L2D has fantastic products, I used their Match Grade Threaded Glock 19 Barrel in my EDC gun for the past 6 months. I have over 800 problem free rounds through it. I personally think (In my unimportant and not asked for Opinion) this video screams advertisement and not really a tutorial on what to look for when selecting a Barrel for your Glock.

I love upgrades, guns, and shooting. but I get a kick out of people thinking they have to spend extra money to shoot better. I'm not a tack driving marksman, but I generally out shoot most people at the range. spend time at the range with your stock gun and you're guaranteed to shoot better groups than a guy who dropped $3 grand on a glock with some holes milled out of the slide, and a "match " barrel. the more important thing of the barrel is case support for super hot ammo, and rifling for shooting lead. I really like the reverse crowning and chamfer to protect the rifling. not only does it look awesome, especially on 1911s, but it serves a purpose.

Really wish they came with lanz and groove barrels for the 10mm as many only carry that load for the same reason I do. I will do more research though. If it can improve my accuracy with my glock 26 than maybe. I'm not sure if I'm skilled enough to notice the benefit at self defense ranges.

Nothing wrong with modifying your gun. The first thing I did on my Glock was change out the sights before I even took it out to the range. It shot better than I did. The design is actually pretty plain vanilla, but the tolerances are such that it will work fine for more rounds than most of us will ever care to shoot. If your aim, pun intended is the burn ammo and use the gun for self-defense the factory barrel will be fine. You already spent five to $600 on the gun. Put some rounds through it before you modify it further. One good thing about Glocks is the amount of aftermarket support.

Know what your intention and build is for FIRST....THAN BUILD ACCORDINGLY !!! Everyone talks barrels (and you are 100% correct in what you pointed out)......But...Headspace (projectile fit to land & groove), and a proper 11° crown, with a (tested load acceptance) to that specific barrel. Finding a sweet spot in barrel pressure (type of powder and load) to barrel projectile matching. ALL OF THIS IS important for a Bullseye shooter....70% of it isn't worth beans in the field. TIGHT MATCH tolerances isn't the edge when your off paper...plus a possible jam on a .001" is detrimental.

Do you have any comment to make about the clearance between the end of the barrel and the opening in the slide where it pokes through? If you have play there then another factor causing inconsistency clearly exists. I think these clearances, and the clearances between the barrel as it locks in the ejection port both play to how true the barrel is to the sights. After a bit of shooting, with such tight clearances, do you notice any binding as the barrel heats up?

This is a very old video. Most pistols are more accurate than their shooters. What can make the difference is the human interface: trigger, ergonomics, etc. When it comes to that most modern handguns are a couple decades ahead of Glock.

Too bad a lot of manufacturers don't make 10mm Glock 20/40 barrels. That's an application where the build quality would really come into play. Especially shooting heavyweight hard cast bullets.

As I believe I said years ago when I made this video (or the article for it) I began looking into barrels because the original was shot out. I bought the gun used, then used it in competitions, training courses, and lots of weekend shooting. The lock up had gotten looser and accuracy on the decline, plus I don't like unsupported chambers.

I have a KKM match barrel for my G16gen4 and it shoots less accurate than the OEM barrel. At 25 yards for example the spread for the KKM barrel is terrible compared to the factory barrel. I wouldn't say that match barrels are always better.

Glock barrel: The only reason to buy an aftermarket barrel i.e a non-stock Glock barrel is to shoot lead bullets &/or to add a suppressor to the barrel. All other reasons are cosmetic & a *big waste of money,* period. Why? 1. The way to shoot accurately is training/practice/ammo = skill 2. Because a gun shoots more accurately than any human being can 3. Glock barrels easily last longer than custom barrels *Don't fall for after-market marketing.*
@GBGuns
@GBGuns 7 жыл бұрын
+sweetcostarica you forgot to mention simply replacing a barrel that has been shot out. My original Glock 19 barrel was starting to run a little loose after about 5,000 rounds. It still functioned, and still shot decently, but dropping in a fresh barrel tightened up the shots.
@sweetcostarica
@sweetcostarica 7 жыл бұрын
Remember we're talking about custom or non-stock Glock barrels. So, a worn out or shot out barrel as a reason to spend what $200 USD to $300 USD for a custom barrel? NO WAY, just buy a stock replacement barrel from Glock for $160 USD. Stock barrels last longer anyway. *Special Note:* if your Glock barrel wears out or "acts funny" in 5,000 rounds Glock will probably replace it for free. I am pretty sure Glock barrels last about 25,000 rounds or more normally.
@GBGuns
@GBGuns 7 жыл бұрын
+sweetcostarica I'm sure they last even longer, but we wanted to test an affordable aftermarket and see if there was a difference. Don't you know that's the brilliance of Glock? It's the only "perfect" gun that people buy immediately planning in changing something. Glock has done a wonderful job of not modernizing their design because they know the customer will do it for them.

A few years ago I bought a Lone Wolf barrel for my Glock 23. Recently, I discovered that these barrels are made in Korea and I have no problem with that. I have studied the various videos on aftermarket barrels and their features and compared to the standard stock Glock barrels. I cannot see buying aftermarket barrels unless they offer something that the Glock barrels do not. My biggest concern is that I reload and that you cannot use lead bullets in a Glock pistol. Glock barrels do not have the case support as do the aftermarket barrels. They do allow you to use reloaded ammunition and use cast lead bullets. Case support and the ability to use cast lead bullets as well as accuracy are the primary reasons for buying an aftermarket barrel. AM barrels seem in general, to be tighter in terms of fit. I recently acquired a new gen 3 Glock 19 and ordered another standard Lone Wolf barrel for it. I am NOT going to spend $200 - 250 + for an aftermarket barrel. My price range is $100 - 150.00
@GBGuns

I understand your points and also own a Lone Wolf. Different barrels for different purposes. Lone Wolf sells good stuff and their barrel suits your needs perfectly.
@Sigkeeper1
@Sigkeeper1 7 жыл бұрын
I bought the Lone Wolf barrel to use for shooting cast lead bullets and because of better case support than the factory Glock barrel. I bought this thing for $ 106.00 ,including shipping. The other AM barrels were much more expensive and in time, if I am so inclined, I may opt to pick up another barrel. Since I only have $455 in the Glock 19 I have a hard time justifying spending $ 200 - 275 + on a AM barrel. The LW seems to have decent case support and minimal wiggle room for a standard factory ammunition.

Sigkeeper1, I registered earlier this week on Lone Wolf's website. I now have a Alfa Wolf barrel in my cart, waiting for my Glock 21 to be shipped to my FFL. As per your comment, I was unaware that Lone Wolf's barrels are made in Korea. Well, the barrel in my cart is now being canceled. Outsourcing to a foreign country means one less job for an American. Even if is was made in platinum at a bargain price, I still wouldn't buy it. Thanks for the info, guy.

Wow! Tough crowd! I've been a target shooter all my life. The guy is just trying to point out some valid concerns. "Better" is such a vague term. I have target barrels that are bullet/brass/seat/load specific and they are "Better" than the stock barrels...for laser straight, benched, target shooting. Would I use them for EDC? Absolutely not. They're finicky primadonna guns, but I know that going in. You all went after him for not dining the L2D barrel for "Riggle Room" when it's not a binary issue (tight=good...loose=bad) this is the witchcraft of barrel/chamber design. All he was explaining is that there is definitely a tradeoff between ultimate accuracy and ultimate reliability. It's not one way or the other. I took my dad shooting (He was a master marksman smallbore rim fire shooter and basically got me foamed up on shooting) He was a Korean War Era combat Medic. I had a variety of 1911s for him to shoot but I was interested to see which he would pick up and choose out of the bunch. My bet was the DW Specialist...my favorite. He picked them up one by one and rattled them back and forth. The he settled on my old Colt Commander. Sloppy Sloppy Sloppy gun. I was surprised like WTH you're a target shooter? When he saw my eyebrow raised he just said "When your life's on the line, you're not shooting for group." I know this was a long comment. I hadn't intended it to be. I appreciated the fact that he took the time to point out some legitimate differences that many shooters may not have been aware of.

I imagine barrels are made equally in all calibers. For hollow points you'd want as generous of a feed ramp as possible, but the Glock factory line is pretty flawless. You likely won't notice a difference from swapping your barrel unless you have several thousands rounds through it.
