I did essentially this same repair job today, on a "slightly older" (?) ca. 1990 GE dryer. Thankfully it was not so old that the slide mounts had to be modified by drilling new holes, as the instructions enclosed in the NOS repair kit let on. But there were some differences. First, there was a black sheet metal trim panel across the bottom that was covering the two lower fastening hex screws. Secondly, the drum would not slide out, there must have been some setscrew on it from the rear, so I didn't try to force it to pull out all the way. I just lifted it slightly to change the slides, oiled then with the capsules included. I did try to put my arm in there to take the belt off the motor pulley. Dude you must have smaller arms than me, I nearly quillotined my forearm and still could not reach the idler. After seeing that the Drum would not pull all the way free, I left that alone. Third, my door shut off had two wires but there was a harness loom running into the front panel, it had strain relief clips but I tried to set it up on a wood block to keep the wires from pulling. For the front glides r&r it was not difficult; regrettably I just didn't get to lube the rear bearing , so that will just have to be as it is. After reassembly and re-starting, it still squeaked a bit at first but quieted down after running it for awhile with no heat. I guess the glides have to bed in a little. I would not have been able to competently pull this off myself without this vid because this was the oldest comparable dryer I could find in any instructional vid.

You didn't test the dryer afterwards. It is not sufficient to say the lube has solved the problem.

Mine does it when it gets hot
