Awesome video. I've been contemplating on geting a GV unit. I have a 94 Chevy K2500 with the 6.5 NV4500 and 4.10s and at 2600rpm I'm cooking a whopping 73mph on the interstate. Seeing this makes me want to order one tonight lol. I love driving the truck, plenty of power when pulling with 4.10s but it needs lower rpm on the interstate lol.

I have the same trans and gear ratio, only behind a Cummins 12 valve. I love the gear vendors. I put a simple switch on the gear shifter and it's super useful and satisfying bringing the RPM down to the MPG sweet spot 1700-1800. If you can afford it, buy it.

I will most likely be selling this GV unit here pretty soon. Im currently putting the truck back to stock, form as my 3.55 gears and how I use my truck, makes the GV seldom used anymore. I've strongly considered putting in 4.11 gears, but that is like $2,000 to gear change the front axle and the rear axle. Had my truck came with 4.11 gears, the GV unit wouldn't be going anywhere

I run 4.10's and they are great around town but the OD turns it to a 3.22 on the highway. It would be nicer in a manual I think but really mandatory on 4.10's either way.

Nice video. How has the Gear Vendors held up? Do you haul any weight with it regularly? I have the same truck with the 6-speed, 3.55’s, and the same tires. Plenty of legs as is, but the split between gears is too much for hauling loads since I replaced the 16’s with the 17’s. Looking for a splitter, and it seems the GV is about the only solution without adapting a full-size truck transmission.

Just in case you missed the inference, the gratitude I expressed earlier was dripping with sarcasm. The wholly irrelevant and completely meaningless opinion you expressed about wheel size preference was a complete waste of your time. I’ve no doubt you have opinions on things I think are stupid, and clearly the opposite is true. That doesn’t mean your opinion is relevant. Especially to the question I asked. I need to get one of those big time I have a 95 Dodge ram 3500 with the nv 4500 5 speed and i’m literally tacked out matted to the floor right up against the governor at about 78 flat out 52 miles an hour is about max cruse speed just so I’m not ringing it out. I would be happier than a pig in shit if I could cruise down the road at 65 or 70 comfortably. The only good thing about the gearing I have now is I can pull lots of weight and still get killer fuel mileage. which I’m sure that will change once I start loading the ol 12 valve with a taller gear. but that’s cool at least I’ll still have that option to use over drive or not 🤪👍

Your situation, you will absolutely see a real world increase in fuel mileage. 1750-1800rpm is the sweet spot to hit mid 22-24mpgs on the one highway. You will literally have the best of both worlds. 4.10 axle ratio, with nv4500 AWD gear vendors. You cant ask for a better setup. You will.cruise at 70-80, as of you had 3.55 gears. Your fuel mileage increase depends on where you started from. My truck, with 3.55 gears, cruises 70 at darn near the sweet spot for mileage, so no benefit on mileage. If you have 4.10 gears, then yes, you will absolutely see a strong improvement in fuel mileage

As far as power and torque, yes...a big difference. It allows the engine to stay in the sweet spot the e tire time....say 1800rpm to 2200rpm. So yes, absolutely makes a big difference. Without the unit, I hated towing my camper....any kind of hill.at all...I had to do 55-60mph in 4th gear, or 75mph in 5th gear. Now....I can catch 4th over, and tow 65-70 all day.

@michaelbarnhill2685
@michaelbarnhill2685 4 жыл бұрын
That is correct. GearVendors oil pump is driven off the driveshaft speed. It needs 25mph speed, in order to shift firmly without unnecessary slippage. So...gearVendors controller monitors your wheel speed, and wont allow a shift under 25mph, or...when slowing doen..it automatically disengages the unit at 25. I say 25mph..it may be 20mph. Not sure. Concept I'd the same
@WilliamStewart1
@WilliamStewart1 2 жыл бұрын
So just to clarify, you can't split 2nd with the gear vendors becuase you don't have enough driveshaft speed? I have a 93 W350 with the 360 5 speed but I'm thinking of going with an NV4500 and this has my interest as well. The only issue I have is the drop between 2nd and 3rd can be a bit annoying when you have 10k lbs behind you. I guess realistically I could just swap out to 4.88s and then use this to split the higher gears and drop down to a 3.80 more less in 5th with the over if I'm making sense of this correctly.
@michaelbarnhill2685
