Review of the Gearhead Archery B24 bow. This bow is only 24.5" axle-to-axle but is one of the most adjustable and unique designs out there.

Dude I am so glad to see a good video about the Gearhead bows. People talk so much trash on them but they are a really nice rig. Skip was absolutely amazing to deal with and pretty much custom built my t24 to make it a true 30" draw for me. Super excited to get it in the woods. Keep these videos up, very underrated bows with a great customer service that deserve more attention.

I've wanted one for years. And this year I think might actually be the year that I get to pull the trigger on that purchase. I have shot these bows in the past and have always liked them They are super convenient for tight quarters especially In some of the situations and terrain that I currently hunt in. Super tunable and still has the speed for hard hitting ADULT ARROWS 😁 i really dig the shoot through riser. It looks like it would be super stable, rigid and accurate !

To the point of a short ata bow, I concur whole heatedly having them dialed in and tuned is essential. I'll be giving the Elite Valor a go at it this year. Limb stops and low percentage left off can really help initial stability. With that said, shooting more arrows always helps the archer with a good setup. Best of Luck This Season, J

I totally understand the overextended dilemma. In the last month I had to setup my new in the box with a full warranty Prime Centergy I mail ordered last January for $499. Only drawback was that the cam in came in was a little short. However I noticed with my Prime CT-5 I bought the year b4 that it felt much different when practicing from a saddle in the 🌳 than on the ground. 60 lbs. felt more like 65-70. Both bows I have with 65 lb. limbs. I left my Centergy @ a bowshop for 6 months which just led to over-promising with under-delivering. When I picked it up in August I was already thinking about the overextended dilemma when in the saddle. My solution was to buy the Spectra green d-loop material & try different lengths until I had my desired anchor point. I tuned the bow bare shaft style in less than an hour. My 1st d-loop was 1 1/8" was perfect. I set it @ 62 lbs. & probably could shoot it in a 🌳 @ 66 lbs. but I like to start light & work my way up. I too have the bowmar nose button & switched from a 1/4" Total Peep to a 3/16" Total since I have the new EZV 7 on the Centergy & it has been put in Hum-V mode😍

I'd buy this just because of the 1911 grip option. I have a few 1911s and a lot of really nice scales. Some stabilized cherry burl scales would look very classy on the standard black model. Even if you don't own a 1911, the scales are for sale everywhere and even pretty easy to make yourself.

Love your videos, very informative. Usually the brace height is an indicator of speed due to being a reflection of the design. I can't see how moving the rest/grip forward or aft on this bow, without changing anything else, can have any effect on speed.
@DIYSportsman
@DIYSportsman 3 жыл бұрын
If you weren't changing anything else, that would be correct. But, to maintain your normal draw length, you'd need to also adjust the draw mods if you changed your brace height. So I might use draw mod 7 at a 5" brace height and draw mod 3 at a 7" brace height for example. So that change in powerstroke which needs to happen as a result of moving the grip would be what causes the change in speed.

Hi Garrett, off subject question. Would you mind letting me know which video it was where you talked about your run and gun ultralite setup as far as where you pack your camera gear, your coat and how you haul everything up the tree. I know I saw that video about a year ago but I cannot find it, it's the one where you fold your jacket over the bungee cord when you're walking in? Also what kind of stealth tape do you use to eliminate metal clanking? Thanks for all the great informative videos.

I'm not concerned about it. The broadhead never really gets all that close to the string or cables. You're more likely to just bump the riser and make a click noise.

They r a poly/spandex high quality with a knee pad that is sewn in between the inner & outer layer. My 🌳 hunting is up close & personal so unless it is windy I will be wearing them with a fleece or cotton cover layer. I'm really considering Gearhead .. do you think there is any downside over a traditional compound? are they just as accurate @ distance? have you ever thought man I should have got a normal compound? ..etc thanks FDN
@DIYSportsman
@DIYSportsman 3 жыл бұрын
There's always going to be a bit of personal preference woven in, but if there were any downsides, it would be fewer proshops (if you needed them), and having to feed the arrow between the riser plates. In regards to accuracy, weight, and other measurables or factors, it's going to depend on the model. Carbon T20 will hold and shoot differently than a B36 for example. After shooting the 24, it itself is capable in the right hands at long range, but I'd look to the 30, 34, and 36 if that was a main priority over compactness. At that point, the size is more apples to apples with other bows in the general hunting realm. With their riser design, I have to imagine their longer bows would shoot great at long range, just haven't tried. Though for the tight quarters stuff, the 24 and 30 are nice. Just this past weekend we bushwacked into an area and only cut out a slight shooting window just big enough for that 24 and had phenomenal cover. Experimenting with the different grips would be an area to play around with too. But to answer your question more directly I don't feel like you're taking a step backwards with them by any means. Just pick a model you think you'd like, and shoot them against other bows you might like to help make a decision if you're able.

Do you think a shorter bow would be faster for a person who has a 24 and 1/2 to 25-inch draw length then a longer bow?
@DIYSportsman
@DIYSportsman 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure that's necessarily true. I'd imagine it has more to due with the design specifics of the cam and limb angle etc, and whether you're ordering a bow that's specific to 25" draw max or one that's got an adjustable mod that's dialed back down to get that length. Often bows operate best at peak draw weight and length.

how accurate can this small ATA bow be ? especially 50-70 yards?
@DIYSportsman
@DIYSportsman 3 жыл бұрын
Accuracy probably isn't the best word. Most modern bows will shoot accurately out of a machine or elite archer. 2019 Vegas Bowhunter freestyle was won with a T24 for instance. Usually what it really comes down to is forgiveness of imperfection on the shorter bows, and dealing wirh the smaller string angle. With no wind and field points, I could usually hold 5-8" groups at 80, but that's going to vary by person.

@DIYSportsman 3 жыл бұрын
Most of my testing over the summer has been with the Black Gold mountain lite. That said, the V is a little more durable and better in extreme low light which is why I like it for whitetail hunting. The precision has a lot to use with how you aim. It's the same concept as gapping pins which is pretty well accepted, just on two planes instead of one. I think some of the accuracy concerns are perpetuated by guys that are using it to point and ballpark a location which isn't the most accurate way to shoot it.
