One of the reasons that rope knives had no point on the tip of the blade was to prevent the blades from being used as weapons on the old sailing ships. Often the captain would have his first mate go around to all of the sailors, have them pull out their knives and then proceed to snap off the tips to make them safe on board his ship...preventing any drunken brawls turning deadly.

I ordered the navy knife in old barn chestnut. It looks like a pocket razor harhar. "S" for straight razor?

Guus de Jong that is very possible, unfortunately GEC doesn't not list what "S" is on their website
