Empty loris at Gempolkerep were returned to the point of delivery by one of the smaller locomotives and such was the layout (a balloon loop) that each 'run' resulted in their facing in the opposite direction afterwards which guaranteed a smokebox first movement if you were lucky and / or patient as such trains ran roughly every two hours.
In order of appearance, the locomotives are Vulcan 0-6-0T 3, and OK 0-8-0T 2, 0-4-4-0T 5 (ex-Mojopanggung) and 0-8-0T 3L (ex-Lestari).

The good things, all of these loco are still can we see in gempolkrep remise (even it still can't run again like they used to). But there is a chance, because almost all the loco still available for restoration (especially for the luttermoller twins number 12 & 4, and ducro and brauns number 8)

This sugar mill always do some kind of festival anually when the sugar production start (buka giling) and stop (tutup giling). Maybe a few years ago ive been to that loco warehouse 1:49 (if im not wrong) at night filled with unactivated locos, feel so creepy😂

Yes, every mill has such a ceremony, I don't know how it originated but it has elements of traditional Javanese culture rather than religion.

That mill is so massive that this video could've fooled anyone that it was a field line train. Also, did you that there was a tram station not far from the mill?

By which you mean that an OJS line ran past the front door? There's a nearby bridge across the main river which is now used by road traffic which I suspect was used by railway(s) before... Was that an OJS line?

@@internationalsteam No, the concrete bridge that crossed the Brantas River, believe it or not, was Gempolkerep's field line. It was used to access the South cane fields which also connected to the surrounding mills back in the colonial times. The tramway I was talking about was the State Railways branch from Krian to Ploso, which indeed went past right at the front of Gempolkerep's main mill gate. I was told it became disused in 1982, which post independent the line to Ploso became unconnected and the tramline only went as far as Gempolkerep, exactly like it was built in the first place. I can't explain it here in KZfaq comment, but I do have a photo of it from Richard Elfrink whose grandfather used to be the director of Gempolkerep Sugar Mill.

To be honest, no. I had wonderful visits to Java over the period 1975 - 2010, the experience made a deep impression on me. However, by 2010, it was changing fast, it was the price to pay for people to improve their standard of living. By uploading these videos and here and pictures on my website, it's a way to share my pleasures and say thank you to the thousands of people who made me so welcome over the years.
