Lets take for example Bulgaria, Romania etc, if you check some of the statistics kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f9B_nsyf3b7Ij6c.html this is just an example, you will see that the soviet countries were top producers of certain resources. After they became democratic most of those countries disappeared from these statistics, just look the change after 1990 . Yes the people were poor but they were able to use services and goods for free, whilst in the West people were paying handsome money amounts for those services. Its a double edged sword and there are pluses and minuses on everything. Neither the socialism nor the capitalism are perfect systems.

If a country has health care, child care, elder care...those countries are rich. They may not appear on the list, using criterion used here, but they have the foundation for happiness scale. Foe example, if you become sick in some countries you can go from rich to poor quickly.

True. Gini coefficient is only useful comparison between countries which have about equal PP corrected GDP per capita. Example would be US where difference between poor and rich is wide but still poor people can afford more than average income people in poorer European countries (There is quite a big difference between European countries for a historical reason).

Which automatically tells you that at least half of country is rich as this or more. It solves it on both ends. Rich 1% isn’t shown so, if majority is poor, country will be shown as poor, and same way some secluded minority that doesn’t want to be part of economy, doesn’t dragged everyone’s average down.

Also it dudn't take into account thet, while America's "wealth inequality" is getting worse, our poor people are getting richer, just at a slower rate than the rich.

Well, kind of. Tropical countries usually have problems with diseases and there's also the need not to insulate, but to refrigerate. In contrary to northern countries who only have to use those resources for heating in the winter, we have hot temperatures all year round. So in the end, it's kinda of the contrary

Panama though, Costa Rica too, I bet that if you tallied the hours an average person worked to live there with basic necessities then over the course of a year you would find that there is a lot less work needed. Less then half the clothing, no skis, skates, snowboards, boots,etc. No insulation in a home, no wood to cut, split and haul for heat. Surely refrigeration is a bigger issue as are insects, disease and fungi. I need a heating and cooling unit here. Where I live we get deep winters. There is a lot of snow to plow. Winter is amazing, but my baseline stuff load is more then double what I would need in the tropics
