@@Jkl62200 Political and religious freedoms. A society that prioritizes the rights of the individual over the collective. There are many more differences but those are the two largest (broadly speaking). The US wants more countries to have said freedoms because they're human rights as far as the US is concerned. China on the other hand prioritizes control and conformity since it creates order, which is what they try to spread to the countries around them.

@@Voodoo-1 China is not a 'missionary' nation like those in the west. Never has been for millennia. It doesn't go around spreading ideology. Back in the day the 'sinosphere' countries like Vietnam, Korea, Japan came to look for ideas and ways. China didn't go preach.

Not only BRI projects but now also domestic projects on 12 provinces are brink of failing as unfinished. China didn't involved Corridor Wars much on recent years, on fact while all others did, China kept cancelling BRI projects. BRI's future doesn't look good at all. Shortcomings, failures and abandoning own projects happens continuosly, so does environmental and quality catastrophes due constant cutting corners, lying and corruption. Succession rate on BRI is low, then some successions becomes with astonishing cost. Lots of countries has failed due one single BRI project which should never happen.

Ugh. Asian countries cannot join NATO - it’s in the charter that expansion is limited to European countries. You’re literally making up a possibility that does not exist. It’s also in the name: North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Japan cannot join NATO in the same way it cannot join the European Union.

I've said this over and over. Anyone who thinks China built a massive modern near pear Army, for the sole purpose of annexing a small island with no resources, is very naïve. Sure, as a matter of pride, China wants Taiwan. But, they NEED resources. They know there's no way they could take Taiwan and hold it, with the USA and its allies being able to cut off the South China sea trade routes. Any attempt at survival with societal progression would require them to control and build out the infrastructure throughout a good chunk of the RFE, long before any attempt at taking Taiwan is viable.

It's not just about pride because Taiwan produces 90% of the most important "resource" on earth right now. Advanced semiconductors. That being said, China still doesn't even spend half of what the US does, even when accounting for GDP and PPP. Of course, they don't have to station their military throughout the whole world.

While I agree in the current times, what happens when their economy tanks to low enough levels that their population revolts? As a last ditch effort, I think they would launch a war with the Island simply to shift the focus. Sending the protesters they would imprison to their military and fight, in an attempt to quell the population.
