The Mudtroopers were closer to the Imperial Army rather than the Elite Stormtrooper Corps. Stormtroopers are closer to US Marines in the Star Wars universe and are closely tied to the Imperial Navy. The movies do them no justice, though.

There is a slight issue as well with blasters apparently having various settings, meaning we almost never know if the weapon is actually firing at its highest consistent setting.

I also read somewhere (may or may not be true) that stormtrooper armour sends the energy from the blaster bolt throughout the body rather than in a single point, which increases survivability at the cost of troopers being rendered unconscious. So a lot of the 'dead' troopers are just unconscious

Also the armor was designed to be resistant to kinetic energy but a hit with staff (that wouldn't even be able to knock out a dude in a motorcycle helmet) knock the stormtropper out

And for proof, just watch some of the bloopers with the actors playing storm troopers falling down because of the restrictive “armor”. Infantry are trained to do well in defensive positions and are able to do well in defensive positions. However, storm troopers are infantry, even if their purpose is to "storm enemy positions" they are still technically infantry. There is a good point to be made that using infantry as a police force is a bad choice.

This is from Merriam-Webster, infantry: "soldiers trained, armed, and equipped to fight on foot", there is a question on when/if one stops becoming infantry, such as marines or special operations, but marines are also known an naval infantry (or other similar nomenclatures), special operations are usually separately classified from infantry, but at their heart they still are infantry, and to make a point, U.S. Army special forces are able to earn the "combat infantryman's badge" when they see combat overseas. Furthermore, The Germans first started using "storm troopers" (honestly can't remember if that is what they were called or not, but that's what they were at their heart) during WW1 when they used small units of infantry specially armed to "storm" the trenches and neutralize them rather than using ineffective infantry rushes over no mans land. Point being, they are infantry.

I think German Stormtroopers would be offended if you compared them to the crappy ones in Star Wars WW1 German Stormtroopers would perform much better even with WW1 weapons

That would make an interesting video. To add a little more, recoil doesn’t have a lot to do with how accurately you shoot a semi-auto gun like the blaster. The stock just helps you connect the gun to your body more and makes it easier to aim.

What are you talking about? The E-11 does have a stock. It's an underfolding stock; that part you see on the underside the barrel. We just never see them actually unfold it and aim properly.

I find lack of faith in the AT-AT disturbing. I have one many skirmish battles in empire at war against the rebel scum back in the day. High has nothing to do to with being bad it allows you to see the enemy from far greater distances and shoot at further ranges also your less exposed to land minds. Yes though the legs may be weak everything has flaws. Also there is a reason why they stored 2 partially dismantled AT-ST in the Cargo hold so the Empire could use them for support although it make take few minutes for re assembly and operating they prove to very effective defending the AT-AT from anti tank infantry and supporting allied troop advancements. Also have AT -AAs would help in anti air defense. Yes AT -AT alone are vulnerable to many threats but unless your an idiot like agent Callous was most situations they would have proper support. Also would want sustain heavy storm trooper and army trooper losses having to clear out every enemy bunker and fortification by themselves. Also some my argue that is what tie bombers are well use they are effective but if the enemy has strong anti-air then they will be shot down or force to abort do to heavy flak. Also Tie bombers aren't very accurate they tend to just do a carpet bombing of ground targets on high density targets for a precision attack run even it is possible for tie bombers as well. Its just The empire likes fully load its bombers with much ordinance as possible making very hazardous for the pilot lol if he gets hit once boom. Also to many friendly fire incidents waiting to happen. Also AT-STs get shred by anti tank and vehicle lazer cannons. Also having combine mobile artillery walkers help to but again may not always be readily available on when need then. Where it AT-ATS can be your MBTs blasting well entrenched enemies from long range with pretty decent accurate and effective fire. It means storm Troopers can hunt down retreating exposed rebel scum with relative ease as they would be driving out their forts, bunkers and trench's. Any one can say well any experienced rebel wouldn't be afraid and hold his ground. Regardless of how afraid you either going to die right then and there out numbered and out gunned, surrender become a pow or do fighting retreat to live another covering yourself and fellow rebels to allow for an escape. The rebellion never intended to win at hoth they new they were fucked and had to hold out only so long to by time to evacuate. Yes the neck was weak on the AT-AT but that was to allow for flexible head movements. The underside is weak but that is typical of most vehicles. Also having no shields thing is a kinda of a bumber but obviously the empire didn't see it as mandatory. Also when you have competent commander like General Veers who knows how to negate some if its flaws in battle reducing casualties for the Empire will maximizing rebel casualties its doesn't matter how flawed the AT-AT is a much. It comes down to skill and tactics and constant radio communication with your fellow AT-AT'S and infantry commanders. Its like say the X Wing is epic and the TIE Fighter is shit. The X wing may have more advantages on paper then a cheap easy mass produced TIE Fighter. Bur if you have green horn x wing pilot go against a Triple ace Tie Fighter your going to lose . Unless it rare case where they ace pilot gets to smug and over confident under estimating the newb rebel pilot. Or If your imperial defector and asked to fly an x -wing you gonna be like does it come with a manual. Then rebel command says no and your like FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCKK MEEEEE!!!!.

This was kind of already done in the Expanded Universe prior to Disney's dismantling of it. The New Republic actually turns it's back on Luke's Jedi order after Jacen Solo falls to the Dark side and leads a campaign against the Republic. It eventually ends up a tattered group of Jedi, allied with a group called the Imperial Knights, who are essentially grey Jedi who formed from the Imperial Remnants fight a full fledged Sith Empire. Good stuff. I always suggest checking out the old expanded universe books/comics.
