SWTOR Saber classes kind of use forms. If you take a jedi sentinel for example and choose the watchman discipline, you automatically take the Juyo form. Or if you take sith juggernaut and choose the vengeance discipline you take the shien form. But they need to make a new "Jedi Knight" game with a larger budget and include form mechanics and progression, kind of like Jedi Academy, but more in depth. I've always wanted a Mass Effect style star wars game with action oriented combat, and that legendary bioware storytelling (not counting anthem of course).

I'm not so sure that things would have gone well if Windu attempted to train Anakin in the use of Vapaad. Given Anakin's mindset and arrogance, it's very likely that he would've fallen to the darkside much sooner as demonstrated by Sora Bulq's fall to the darkside being a result of his failure to fully understand and utilize the philosophy of Vaapad; rather than channeling the aggression of their opponent and reflecting it back at them, Bulq essentially regressed back to Juyo and utilized his own inner ferocity and emotions, as shown by him becoming a sadistic, barbarous individual after his fall to darkside. Since Anakin was shown to regularly resort to channeling the power of the darkside to fuel the power and ferocity of his attacks, it's very likely that attempts to train him in the use of Vaapad would only have resulted in him being mastered by his own emotions much, just as it happened to Sora Bulq.

Mace Windu made it clear that only he would decide whom would get to learn Vaapad since everyone other than himself had failed to master the form and became corrupted by the dark side. I remember hearing that Anakin did approach Mace and expressed his desire to learn Vaapad, but the latter refused to train the former in the style on the account that his motivation clashed completely with the mindset of Vaapad. Mace had created and mastered Vaapad as a means of self control over his natural enjoyment for battle, but Anakin simply wanted to learn the style to become a more powerful lightsaber duelist, which is why Mace refused to train him.

@Frank Wharton-Hughes I can definitely see where you're coming from on your argument that the Jedi council's attempts to repress Anakin's emotions is what caused him to fall to the dark side, as it makes sense that council's attempts to essentially put a lid on Anakin's emotions would inevitably result in them figuratively boiling over and exploding. However, after putting some thought into it I'm actually starting to think that both of our arguments may possibly be correct in the sense that the information covered in both of them had some hand in - or in the case of my argument, could've potentially had a hand in - Anakin's fall to the darkside. While it is true that repressing Anakin's anger and other emotions was responsible for his fall, I also see it as one side of the spectrum for him being consumed by his emotions. I can understand why you would think that Anakin could possibly learn to control his emotions if he trained under Windu in the Vaapad variant of Form VII lightsaber combat as it could be used as a way for him to vent his emotions, but I fear that this method of venting would only have sped up Anakin's fall even further due to his mindset and general approach to combat. Anakin is generally a very competitive individual who clearly felt incredibly thrilled whenever he was in the midst of combat, and his general combative approach often results in him dredging up his own emotions to fuel his lightsaber strikes, as demonstrated with his duels against Ventress and Dooku. It's due to these reasons that I fear that if Windu did try to teach Anakin in Vaapad, Anakin would essentially regress to using the Juyo variant of Form VII which capitalizes on the user dredging up their own emotions and ferocity to fuel their attacks, which is actually what happened to Sora Bulq when he attempted to master Vaapad - Bulq didn't channel the aggression of his opponents back at them like Windu did, but simply channeled his own aggression. My argument for this also stems from personal experiences, since I have also tried to find ways to vent personal frustrations but discovered that more aggressive methods actually failed to properly calm my emotions as effectively as more passive methods. So in short, I can agree with your argument that Anakin's repression of his emotions was definitely responsible for his fall to the dark side and that he could possibly have learned to control his emotions through Vaapad and better counseling, but at the same time I feel that attempts to train him in Vaapad would risk him falling under the influence of Juyo and speed his descent into the dark side due to his more competitive nature and tendency to draw upon his own aggression in combat.

As for Sarlaccs, they reproduce like plants, spitting out seeds that grow elsewhere. Odds are a seed landed on or in a ship or someone brought the seed to other planets.

Aaron Jackson Fair enough. Also would you consider studying a bit of Djem So or any of the other styles to cover more bases, or would you specialize entirely in the Shien variant of Form V? You said earlier that you prefer to fight defensively and analytically before switching over to a more offensive approach when the time is right, thus I could also see some investment in Form III: Soresu, Form IV: Ataru, and even the Djem So variant of Form V being able to complement your prefered method of lightsaber combat.

That is the beauty of the light saber forms though. You don't have to learn a specific one, you could focus on one but also take teaching and techniques from the other forms to truly make a style that is most comfortable for you.

i would do the same but instead of form 5 i would use form 3 to cover weakness because form 2 would make you a great duelist and form 3 would help in a battle against multiple foes or blasters

Threxer funny enough, I'd do an inverse, form 5 as my primary and form 2 as my secondary to help with both footwork and more precise attacks. IRL I've dabbled in European fencing, what form 2 was inspired by, and self trained in longsword and kendo, what form 5 was inspired by, and while I've had more legitimate training in fencing and sparred quite often in the form with others, I prefer the longsword and kendo style as it feels more natural and better control to me, hence my reason for form 5 primary and form 2 as secondary.

I wouldn't necessarily say that Shii Cho is a beginners form, look at Kit Fisto, he was by no means a beginner and he was one of the best Jedi duelists of his era. Nor would I say form 6 Is an advanced version of form 1, otherwise the aforementioned Kit Fisto would have used this, id say it's a Jack of all trades but a master of none type of form. It combines all the previous forms but doesn't come with any distinct advantages but no distinct disadvantages either, unless your name is Revan who mastered all the previous forms to such an extent he used Niman to such effectiveness. Other than those 2 I agree

If your medichlorian count is high enough though then sure. As for form 5, I definitely disagree on it being a combination of 2,3,4. To more of a mix of 3 and 1 if anything. Form 1 being called the balanced form is also a bit of a stretch, the form itself has plenty of weaknesses, and is honestly the worst when it comes to lightsaber dueling, but it's perfect for battlefield and blaster combat, so I'd call it versatile if you want something similar to balanced.

A lightsaber isn't some mystical weapon only the super trained Jedi can use. That's why form 1 is even a thing it's literally just using it like a fucken sword it's so basic anyone can learn it. Except when you actually have to fight someone. Seriously Form 6 in most of what I've seen is more focused on force connection, diplomacy and martial techniques for self control/physical discipline than actual combat. Every single user of it died in the battle of Geonosis. I'd actually recommend Form V Djem So for most situations. It has defensive, offensive and countering techniques. Sure its not as good as 2, 3 or 4 in their specfic areas (dueling, defending or mobile battles) but it is better than each in their weaker areas (better in mobile battles/defense than 2, better in duels than 3 and better in defending than 4). Best way I ever saw it put was that the forms are linked to the evolution of the Jedi order. Form 1 was the start learning to adapt sword fighting techniques to lightsabres. Form 2 evolved during the Sith/Jedi wars to battle 1 on 1 with other force users as that was common. Form 3 evolved after the Jedi/Sith Wars to counter multiple opponents using blasters and other weapons as fights against force users were rare and they almost never had a ligthsabre. Form 4 and 5 came about during the Mandalorian wars when form 3's focus on defence became a detriment as you'd be facing large volumes of fire from armies and thus you'd tire before they did rather than smaller groups you could outlast. They each took a different approach to introduce more agressive elements. Form 4 tried to use the varying terrain to jump and flip behind enemy formations to attack them from an unexpected direction. Form V retained much of 3's defensiveness and depending on strain either repurposed it to turn enemy blaster bolts against them (rather than simple deflection) and powerful attacks to beat down an opponent or incorporated some of 2's counters and dueling along with reflecting blaster fire. Also yes in full out war especially against force users Form 5 Shien or Form 4 might be a better option than Form 5 Djem So. However for general use they willl both tire you out faster as they have a lot of active movement or heavy attacks. Form 6 and 7 both came about in an attempt to adapt and refine the previous 5 forms into a new one that best incorporated their elements but then split on where the users wanted to go. Form 6 which became the standard form reflected the Jedi orders new role as mediators and diplomats being used primarily to train the body and teach self discipline more than for actual combat potential. Form 7 on the other hand tried to incorporate the best offensive techniques and potential to create an unpredictable and powerful fighting technique. It however had 2 issues the main one from the Jedi perspective was drawing on passion and a love of combat it had a very high chance of causing someone to fall or at least resort to agressive negotiation when it wasn't in their view the best choice. Secondly the high attack nature could tire you out faster than other techniques. Its why Vaapad (Windu's variant) was only used by Windu because every other user had wound up falling to the darkside (though admitedly its a small sample being his apprentice and one other). So yes in my opinion Form 1 is good for training the basics, Form 2 is best for 1 vs 1 against other lightsabre wielding force users, form 3 is best for defense, form 4 is best for mobile battles or fights against entrenched forces you need to get behind, form 5 shien is best for bigger fighters who want to beat down weaker opponents, form 5 Djem So is the best all arounder though it loses to other forms in their areas, form 6 is best for those who use lightsabre techniques to train their bodies but focus more on non-combat resolutions to situations and form 7 is the best offensive form but has a high chance of causing the user to lose control or fall.

@@liamwarner5749 couple things. First and honestly the one a care about the least, exar kun was a niman specialist so something's screwy with the timeline you provided. Second there is some truth to niman being the lightsaber form for people who don't want to spend a lot of time on lightsabers. But that is not indicative of the form's capabilities in the hands of a dedicated combative force weilder. It's a low skill floor high skill ceiling kind of thing. Due to its jack of all trades nature wach application is unique but they generally fall under 2 catagories (credit to evannova95 for coining the terms) There's diplomats niman which is those who use it to cover there bases while the develop other skills. This is used by people like plagus and caedus and more lazily by most jedi of the clone wars era. Then there's battlemaster's niman which is a whole nother beast. It's an extreamly aggressive and proactive version that relies on constantly switching gears to keep your opponent off balance and catch them slipping by being wild and unpredictable. Best examples are darth krayt and exar kun. Kun would pull shit like rapidly switching length and power settings on his lightsaber, switching from single to double bladed, and from blade to force powers at a moment's notice to keep his opponent off balance. Niman has an answer to everything and Battlemaster's niman leverages this to dictate the tempo of a fight in such a way it's almost like you're bullying your opponent. Lastly djem so is not as versatile as you think though it's better than most. First of all it relies on being physically strong which sucks for people like myself who can't bulk up due to genetics( seriously it's a thing, just built lean). Second it's flat footed by necessity because you need to be grounded to get more strength into your swings and this makes it struggle against mobile fighters like Ataru practitioners. Finally it was actually developed to account for the percieved weaknesses of form 3 but honestly I think that's overblown because plenty of soresu masters have vicious counter attack sequences. Case and point obi wan in revenge of the sith. The only real difference is form 5 is strength reliant and a bit more proactive where form 3 is reactive.

I also imagine there's been a lot of retconing over the years. I had that timeline given to me prior to episode 1's release. 2) This is actually I've heard about a battle form of form 6. Every time I saw or read something about it previously was in relation to Jedi who used it primarily because ligthsabres were part of their image as it where but who's real skills lay in other areas (negotiation, force connection, etc) and as I said a special mention of all users in the arena of Geonosis dying. 3) I agree both variants of form 5 are more aimed at strength body types. My personal opion was form 4 and 5 grew out of 3's focus on defense. Form 4 focusing on agility and 5 on strength. I actually consider form 7 the most versatile but with the risk for a jedi of falling. 4) my personal tastes actually run more to 3 or 2 than form 5. Just giving my opinion mainly because of what I'd heard about form 6 every time it cropped up. Stopped reading the books before Krayt I shall have a look into this battle focused form 6 you speak of.

High tier users generally seem to be considered to have gone beyond it to develop their own personal style and there's no mention of a "battle Niman" at all. Exar Kun on wookiepedia actually gets a special mention of having abandoned the core concepts of moderation for the form in favour of a more aggressive and vicious variant. Sort of Like Windu developed Vapaad from the more general Juyo but is still considered a form 7 user. So I'm willing to conceed you can have a very dangerous and skilled "form 6 user" but the form and what it teaches is actually the worst lightsaber form for combat until you reach the point of creating your own style from it. However to reach that stage is largely dependant on an individuals ability and creativity to develop their own workable techniques. @@liamwarner5749 I believe I said this. Most people who use it pick it up as an easy way of having something flexible so they can focus on other things. Dedicated combat focused force users usually do some form of hybridization to compensate for their preferred style's deficiencies. Off the top of my head I can think of 4 top tier single form purest (Yoda, dooku, sidious, and arguably windu) who don't practice niman because the other forms just aren't universally applicable. Meanwhile meanwhile those who actually practiced niman and cared to hone their skills were almost always monsters with the blade. Revan, exar, krayt, caedus, all of these guys chose niman to specialize in and all of them saw vast amounts of every type of combat. And yes they put their own spin on it but that's niman. It's a hybrid from so when people actually put time into it it will result in unique applications. To me this indicates the shortcomings it appears to have isn't a problem with the form but the people it often attracts. And the diplomat's niman vs battle masters niman distinction isn't one that's common place in the larger sw community. As I said it's an invention of a youtuber named evannove95 to generalize the two most common paths. Diplomats is more passive and all about looking for opportunities to break out alternative skills while battlemaster's seeks to dictate the flow of the fight by spamming an overwhelming amount of different things and forcing the opposition to adjust. I can try and find his clip of it for you because he has a lot of content and there's no dedicated video. But my point is that niman isn't inherently weak in high intensity situations, it's just that the common jedi who practices it isn't a dedicated warrior.

@@lilevevo.. If you don't master the ways of negotiation... psycology, and culture, maybe you won't live to see the next day.... unless you had a lightsaber and the force as a "backup". Form 0 would always be prefered, and the best way to get around conflicts, without the use of physical force.

Hats off for that feat, more preferring 2 and 7 and 4 myself, a good use of inherent bloodlust and energy and some ok backup for when I get tired or bored. I'd prefer a shield if blasters got involved tho

I think realistic would be either 3 ( the one that help you actually survive ) or Form 5 , good balance between offense and defense and help you finish it quickly .

@@stormbringer2840 More that it requires a lot of BRAINS actually. all other forms require their users to only rely on their training in fights, while form 6 requires their users to constantly THINK. you can't think fast enough to make a combination of tools on the fly, then you'd practically have nothing to rely on, & you bite the dust. good form 6 users know how to combine their tools well on the fly... which those dead ones at that battle apparently ain't...

David Jacobs Absolutely. While i don’t think his stance his practical in actual sword play, in saber dueling he was able to conserve so much energy and was an absolute tank.

no form 2 is all about grace and finesse and exposing weaknesses form 3 is all about blocking parrying and wearing your opponent down form 5 is literally none of that and more about brute strength and an overwhelming amount of strikes that youre opponent can not block its all offense and no defense so how is form 5 a mix of 2&3

That's talking about philosophy, NOT moves. 2 is all about precision while 5 is all about power. they're both offensive-minded, but works VERY differently in practical situations. movesets between those 2 won't even look similar in the least. & btw, form 5 sucks in defending against multiple opponents--a tradeoff made by diverting almost all stamina & focus to deal with that ONE thing or guy in front of you.

Every single form after 1 has 1 in them by default, as that is the most basic of lightsaber combat & every other form is built from there. so if you're using a lightsaber, there's really no need to single out for 1 for specific purposes. it ain't stated in the video, but unlike every form from 2 to 7, where they're specific mindsets or philosophies to them, form 1 is just telling you where to hit, how to hit & how to parry or block--basically just how to use a sword. it's just pure swordsman moves that would work with ANY sword. HOW you wanna be using those basics, that'd be entirely up to you.

It's okay, Jedi use the Force to predict the blaster path. Non force sensitives usually have to train for long periods of time to even achieve half of the skill.

It boils down to the individual user. the jack-of-all-trades gives you access to a variety of tools, but it also robs you of more advanced versions of them. if you can't react quick enough to changing situations & fail to pick the combination of tools in time, you'd quickly find yourself shorthanded... & that could be lethal. while all other forms simply require their users to rely almost exclusively on their training to get out of sticky situations, form 6 requires the user to think their way out of things all the time. form 6 would be very useful if you're someone who's good at adapting & thinking on the fly, not so good if you actually want something really solid to rely on.

Like for every fighting style, forms did born form the fact that the time for training is ayway limited. A fighting style gives you a set of attacks and defenses that are coherent, so you can pass from one to another seamlessly. Even if anyone aknowledges that knowing multiple styles would be better, if you train in multiple styles, there are high chances you'll not become proficient in any of them. What would be paramount for a Jedi is to train AGAINST multiple forms. That way, even using only one, you'll never be taken by surprise. Not by chance, fencing evolved by REDUCING the possible number of parries and attacks. You don't need to know 10 ways to cover the same angle, it's better to know one, but perfectly.

In Legends Luke´s order battlemaster (Kyle Katarn) developed 3 different forms.

I've done some longsword and have a potential answer. It's less about the Jedi and more about practical weapon usage - these forms exist because they're the ones that work. Similarly, the guards and styles used in martial arts are the ones that function well. Example - why do we sometimes hold knives in reverse grip, but never swords (in practical sparring, at least)? It's because the more limited range is fine in grapples and it adds options that just aren't useful for swords. It also sacrifices defence that knives don't have in the first place, but is vital in fencing. Some things work. Some things don't.

@@justrobin8155 I would like to follow on this - consequetly you get people on the internet telling that using lighsaber as a longsword is wrong that it should be used as a rapier... that forgets that lightsaber is also not a rapier. It can equally work well as a club. in any and all circumstances it can be used as all three + deflect and reflect incoming energy projectiles... One can be in armor that is at least partialy efficient (thanks Tim Zahn again :-) (Qui gon took longer to melt blast door the regular door) thus in that cases clubbing trough defences might be better then just small nabs like with rapier. each style favours some situation more then other. (Niman being the exception I guess) and thus more styles are required.

@@Paerigos You're right. Effectively, I think we should just look at a lightsaber as an insanely versatile melee weapon. I compare it to longsword because it's cut-and-thrust and my area of training, but it could just as easily be used as... anything, really. The obvious advantage to this is that a well trained combatant could switch styles completely in a blink. Think if how cool this could make fights. An initial rapier-like duel is interrupted, and the combatants are forced to switch to longsword techniques in order to face multiple opponents. Then, when faced with an armored opponent, their stance becomes very aggressive - they dodge with their Force abilities for defense and drop their saber guard for an onslsught like that of a bludgeon. Not only is it more practical - it's cool as hell.

@@Paerigos Saying it shouldn't be used as a longsword also forgets what Form 5 is based on from the real world. I'm part of a local lightsaber group as well as a longsword group. What you learn in longsword (for the most part) translates straight over to Djem So. It uses almost all of the same techniques and footwork

Lightsaber forms I would use: Form I,Form III,Form V,and Form VI.I am more patient,tactical,and defensively minded just to cover my own ass from blaster bolts and such and much less interested in attack than my foes..I like to use attrition to weaken and tire my opponents,who use more energy intensive lightsaber forms.And then make an unexpected switch from offensive to defensive like Form V which seems to work well with Form III to finish my opponent off.I don’t like finesse or fancy moves either,I just want to get the job done even if it’s a slow and drawn out fight.I would master and practice every lightsaber form though.

@dggdvg0 But think think about it. If you are losing a fight. You can use invisibility force, which makes you invisible to a point, but its incredibly hard to sustain for long periods of time, or at least you can use force nullify, to make your enemies force weaker, so you can escape easier. If you can master the force entirely. And I mean to it max. Light side, dark side, everything. You cant be beaten or killed. Since your mastery over the force is so strong. You have an ability for any an all situations. You could probably level entire armies with force push, or stop ships from taking off. If there is a droid army at your door step you use force lighting and it travels threw the entire army and halts there advance. Force blast to blast away any and all enemies that would surround you. Force speed to quickly escape out of any bad situation you cant fight. Force break or crush to get threw any locked doors. So on and so forth.
