So many great songs on that album, What is Life, Isn't it a Pity, All Things Must Pass, My Sweet Lord, the jams at the end. Just a great album. George had so many great songs throughout his career. Also check out Brainwashed from his final album that his son Dahni finished after George died.

George has been the favorite from the time I was 10 and saw them on Ed Sullivan. First artist to cover this song was the late, great Leon Russell. George & Leon did it together at “The Concert for Bangladesh”, great version as well.

Funny you mention the Grateful Dead. I hear the influence of American music in this song. And, of course the Dead's sound is rooted in American folk, blues, jazz.

There are many really good songs on this collection, but this song stands out to me as something very special. That chord progression pulls me right in. I feel disarmed. Genius, IMO.

I never noticed the Dead connection, and in particular the only full album I actually know (American Beauty - Sugar Magnolia my fav Dead song), but now I see it, except for the occasional bright guitar melody sounds that are clearly George the Beatle - the bright chords could still be Jerry, but unless I'm clueless (a distinct possibility), I'm guessing you hear the "George the Beatle" guitar popping up here and there (but not everywhere) (see what I did there?) 😁

Art of Dying is my favorite song on this triple album. I’m also a huge fan of the jam tracks that most people ignore. George has too much passive aggressiveness to be my favorite. Yeah I’m a John fan. It’s the cynicism and way with words. But of course I love Paul. He’s special.

Huh. Never made the Garcia connection, but I do hear it now. Jerry's version would have been more up-tempo. They had similar influences via people like Chet Atkins and Merle Travis. And yeah, the thing I love about George's songs are the slippery harmonic progressions, which made his songs unpredictable in a good way. But never so much that you feel he was showing off. He could have done well with jazz, I think. Re: fave Beatle, it has to be Paul just because he's such a frigging musical genius, but John or Ringo would be the ones I'd want to have a beer with. I think if you were on John's good side you'd have an ally for life, but get on his bad side and Ooo-EE!

My wife is a huge Beatles fan. I could never get into them. I even had the Beatles rock band game on my ps3 when it came out and hated playing it (I have a Roland drum kit I used). With that said, I’m finding I like a lot of their solo work. Not Lennon though. Not my thing. This song was very relaxing and something I can see listening to on vinyl. May have to check this album out. I have gift cards to bull moose to spend. 😀

I know this sounds crazy - but if I get where everything is going on the channel right now.... You might (against my expectation) be mostly thumbs down on Queen News,,, I can't believe I'm actually about to post this... Hey Justin! After the Concrete Blonde debut reaction - as crazy as this sounds (I still don't really know where your Queen News reaction is going..), if you really did *not* like Queen News, I would love to hear your comparison to the Concrete Blonde debut as crazy as that sounds... we'll talk again after 11 more tracks 😗
