Lol so George basically says: I wrote a good story that I thought would be interesting to modern people at the time and put in special effects afterwards. And Disney goes PEW PEW BRRRRRRR WAHMEH BRRRRR
@Jared_Wignall4 жыл бұрын
What George is saying is what Disney and Lucasfilm don’t get. Star Wars is more than just special effects, space ships flying, shooting laser guns and laser swords while also having the force as a mystical energy. There’s various influences from film and literature that Lucas took inspiration from as well as religious elements put into the films from Christianity to Buddhism. Disney and Lucasfilm just see surface level stuff with the franchise and don’t try to do anything more than that.

Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, ancient Greek, legends of King Arthur, Mesopotamian, westerns, comic books, world war 2, vietnam war, flash Gordon, the famous Heros journey etc The film is a brilliant mash up of so many influences, mythologies and theologies that's it no wonder it struck a chord and hit big. Anyone and everyone could relate to it even on a purely psychological level even if they hadn't experienced any of the above. The story of a hero being made by going on an adventure to the "lions den" to retrieve something/someone is found in so many cultures to the earliest human history it's crazy.

George Lucas is a genius world builder. Phantom menace is my favorite movie. He s right about the original series having poor characterization, poor dialogue etc. The only star wars that truly does justice to star wars is phantom menace because it s movie purely about the star wars world.

This is why I think Rian Johnson understands Star Wars incredibly well. By making a movie that is essentially about Star Wars and the legacy/myth, as well as commentating on the Rich’s obsession with profiting from war. And on top of that, George always said that he never had an interest in doing the same old thing. Rian Johnson completely changed the sequel trilogy for the better by making Luke abandon the Jedi way, by killing Snoke, and by making Rey’s parents nobodies

A painting is never finished.
@G360LIVE4 жыл бұрын
@@fridaynightnicktoons6885 I know what he's talking about. The point I'm making is that he says it's not about special effects but released the Special Editions (making it about the special effects), and he did it after publicly going against the idea of movies being changed or "enhanced" for the sake of art and our cultural heritage. He also said that he wanted the original theatrical versions to go away, essentially rewriting history, which is what George tends to try to do: rewrite history.
@G360LIVE4 жыл бұрын
@@JarJarAbrams That's not the correct context for what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the preservation of art as it is. If Da Vinci could come back and change one of his paintings while making sure the original is lost to time, would you be okay with that? I know I wouldn't. "Art is never finished; it's abandoned," isn't an excuse to ruin a piece of history; it's more of a guide for artists to let them know that at some point they have to stop fixing a creation and simply let it be.
