Considering almost all of Mad Max: Fury Road was created using practical effects, you have to ask... Was the Doof Warrior really playing actual music and shooting fire while hanging from bungee chords on the back of a moving truck? Yes. Yes he was.

Two things: 1 Miller was actually against the warriors on the swinging sticks. He was all for cgi there, his stunt team was the ones who went ‘ye of little faith’ 2) my favorite useless practical effects scene is from pacific rim. The scene where gipsy danger punches a building and just taps a Newton’s cradle is all done in practical effects. (Also all of the scenes in jeager cockpits). But there was no need for that scene to be practical, but it was

Since we are talking about George miller, I want to tell about when George miller went to my old film school film festival as a judge/honer guest and was doing a QnA. Of course as a film festival you expect the question to be film related especially to mad max (since the festival was in Australia). Nope the first and ONLY question was this person who “needed” to tell the background about him meeting George son/grandson (don’t remember) which took about 15 minuets (add more minuets since he needed to repay what he was saying since George got lost in his story). Than after 25 min+ this person was finally done with his backstory and finally ask the question “tips on begin a diractor. The audience started clapping since he was finally done talking. George answer it and the QnA is over.

Shame he wasn't brave like Del Toro. I saw him shoot down 3 student's anecdotes because they were, in his words, being disrespectful of everyone's time and they should only ask things that are interesting to everyone. Everyone cheered him (and booed when someone started talking about themselves instead of asking a question).

Iota (the doof warrior) also played Frank-N-Furter in the Australian stage show version of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. So as well as being a mad, fire shooting guitar player he also looks amazing in heels and fishnets

I have never understood how 'wasting fuel' even needs to be dissected as a plot hole. Throughout history rich people have shown off their riches by waste - like many Arab and Persian rulers filling their palaces with gardens and fountains (OK I guess they would keep the place cool too) spilling fresh water every which way, or Medieval European kings having insane banquets, or both throwing gold to the people on the streets when visiting somewhere. Besides the flamethrower uses probably about a billionth of the fuel of a great armada of hot rods roaming the desert...

with all the vehicles that they made for that movie, making a playable guitar that shoots flames seems trivial. The particular guitar that they built does look like an intricate piece of craftsmanship to be sure; but otherwise it just doesn't seem like a big deal to put real pickups in it, and squirt fuel out the top
