my sister got a crittertrail for her syrian and i was trying to tell her it’s too small but she didn’t listen- then she bought a WIRE wheel then after a few days got mad over the noice the wheel made. our parents said to take out the wheel and the stuff that make noise and i broke down CRYING cause the poor hamster and long story short i own the hamster and he’s in a bin cage with a good wheel 😌

i love how gentle the worker was. when i was at my pet store looking at fish, a worker went up to the cage and was grabbing and grabbing at the hamster. it was squeaking and was scared. i went back over after that and all the other ones were burrowed deep down and were shaking.

im gonna be completely honest, i get my hamsters a day after or even the day that they pass away. that sounds super weird but i genuinely hate having an empty cage. maybe it's something deeper than what it is, but having an empty cage makes me feel like i have an empty heart, so i just like to fill the void with getting another one i can love and be happy with

I hate it when I go to get more bedding and food from the pet store and some children and adults just go into the pet store and get a hamster. Most of them have no knowledge on them and how to take care of them. The only information they get is what the assistants give them. They pick the cheapest cage which is normally the smallest and take the poor hamster home.😱😠😡

im really sad that those people didnt research beforehand because those hamsters are going to a horrible home

When i was at a petsmart I was about to confront a woman and her daughter getting a hamster and a tiny cage but they left before i got up the confidence (I have severe social anxiety)

When I was getting a hamster from petco, the girl who was getting a hamster out for me ( not the one I have) she was trying to get the hamster and she was very gentle and noticed that the hamster was scared and stressed out. So I looked at another hamster ( the one I have now) and she was very gentle and made sure she wasn’t stressing out the hamster. She actually seemed like she was very well educated on hamsters. I think she also mentioned she owned a few, she didn’t even recommend the small cages. She told us a lot of important stuff (that I actually already knew) but she was very nice and educated on hamsters.

I wouldn’t be scared at all to be polite and say” I’ve owned a couple of hamster before, can I give you a suggestion? If not is ok” you never know.. they might not be well educated and someone just telling them could give them some knowledge they didn’t know about hamster. When I got my hermit crabs I should have done a lot of research prior and was my mistake not doing so, but the first day I got them I think I’ve watched videos all day for a whole week trying to learn about the best care, as well as asking the workers at petsmart( which they gave me a lot of bad suggestions) . If someone at the store would have told me something about the proper care, I would have thanked them.

Aw he looks like my hamster I had when I was little! Her name was Coco and she wasn't nice at all and ended up having lots if babies because we accidentally adopted a pregnant hamster but I did my best at the age of 7 xD. We ended up rehoming her and her babies later on because we realized we couldn't care for 8+ hamsters, and my cat had tried to catch them so we wanted them safe. There's obviously stuff we would do differently now if we knew all the information we can find easily now, but at least she had a proper sized cage and was fed properly :)

Hamsters want to dig much and they don’t need plastic or such a small wheel. please buy another bedding (like their natural evironment). i think u should try sprinkling more. (i’m german and i hope u understood everything)

I can relate to both issues. I haven't seen other options near me besides PetSmart. Obviously I'll check again when and if I actually go to get one. As for grieving, sometimes the distraction of a new pet to care for helps fill a little emptiness inside. You get to build a new relationship with a new pet, and it doesn't mean you don't still miss the one you lost.

I am getting one and I HATE CROWDED SPACES so i am going to use a big tank and get one thats really energetic.

But then what happens to them? People need to buy them so that they can be put into a better home. I do agree that some people should not buy them if they are not ready to take care of them. But for those who do want to take care of them they should go with them so they have a better home like any other hamster at adoption and rescue centers. All hamsters deserve love❤

I did not research and got there tinny cage. And it upsetting me to find out its not good. But thanks to all the videos. I will be doing a do it urself hamster cage.. And I gotta say I'm pretty excited to give my furr baby's a good home and life.

When I bring hamsters home, I let them adjust and sleep for the whole day, and since I’m a night owl, I wait until they wake back up themselves and I set my hand in there so they know I’m not a threat. It really helps when bonding them.

I decided to make a list of things you might not notice in the video! (No hate) 1:43 - There’re too little bedding in the aquarium! Hamsters need at least 6 inches of bedding as they like to burrow. 1:48 - Do you see the wire/mesh wheel in the aquarium? It may cause a disease called bumble foot. 2:43 - Yep, Tiny Tails or Kritter Trail cages are mostly bad. 4:04 - I love how they’re so gentle with the hamsters! I love your channel 😁 I got two Robos about 3 months ago now. I didn't do all the research I should have before hand and didn't know alot. The employee said we had to get two together because they wouldn't do well alone. So we got two and I have had to split them up because of fighting. Now one is in a bin cage and the other is in a 40 gallon and seem to be alot happier! Thanks to you and others on here I was able to improve their quality of life. Thank you!!

I love animals so much but the only pets I've ever had have passed away and I found out that we were taking improper care of them. Now im against not doing research before getting a pet. Ive always wanted a dog, and im getting one in about three years, but I also love turtles, lizards, and snakes, but for some reason my dad forbids me from getting a reptile. I am obsessed with hamsters and have litteraly ran out of hamster videos to watch and we were supposed to get one in a few months, by my grandma who lives with me for half the year doesn't want one. The only pets I've ever had were a bunch of goldfish that I now know we were taking care of wrong, and a canary we never knew could fly around the house. Im now really sad we didnt take him to the vet when he needed it. I apologize to whoever gets triggered about this, I now see what I was doing wrong.

I just got my first hamster last october.the only Syrian one left in the store.i used to go to PetSmart but now go to petco.since the first day the hamster, whom I named Amber,has been a trooper.shes cute and funny and so friendly.i let her free roam around and she loves to cuddle up with me.i also have a rabbit two gerbils and three mice.love them all.but Amber is the newest addition to my pet family.

You can actually ask pet stores if they have any adoptable hamsters in the back and they’ll give them to you for free! It’s usually hamsters that were returned or possibly got sick but you’d be giving them a good home since they’re not kept out in the front displays

Nothing wrong with buying from pet stores. I don’t support them either but it’s not the store - it’s the managing and breeders behind the scenes. I got a hamster from petco, obviously he was never handled, he was a giant “ Dalmatian “ and when the employee stuck his hands in the tank he started pure HISSING. never heard anything like it. He was aggressive. Took a month but I got him so tame- he never hissed again even when scared. I work in a small pet shop now ( definitely wayyyyyyyy better than any chain pet store ) ran by an older couple. We took in a dwarf hamster a woman brought in due to divorce, she was pregnant so it was a one time exception. She was pregnant with her second incest litter we were told ( inbred ) and they were right after the other so her body just couldn’t handle it, she passed after they were born and we hand fed them. I just took all the females home, they’re so sweet! One of them is white with red eyes and ginger ears and a ginger stripe!! People don’t understand until they’ve worked there but petstores are SUPER difficult to maintain. So difficult. We keep on top of everything and in a nine hour day have zero minutes left to spare or stand around. We don’t even have anywhere to sit due to this.

Okay I’m so glad that I know a good hamster care person is buying from a pet store. I don’t have any options from where to adopt either, so a pet shop is sadly my best option, I feel better abt it now that I know you bought your hamster from them.
