I love the conversation that began with stirring the pot on Facebook. It brought me such joy to hear how it all went down. 😂 As a “creative rebel” in the wrong career field to be one, I struggled. But when ever I was working with and for mission focused units I was appreciated and had a blast!

Olds' mission, 'Operation Bolo'. Suggested by his off-sider, JB Stone. They crafted the full plan to include four flights of F-4s. Ground crew rigged a couple F-4s with the standard F-105 jamming pod to add authenticity. On the way in they followed the normal Thud flight plan, normal radio chatter. The four flights were four-five minutes apart. First two flights took out 12 (?) Mig-21s, the top NV interceptor. Almost half the entire Mig-21 fleet. The last two flights showed up when the party was basically over. Worse, the NV pilots operated under strict GCI rules. When their expected intercepts went sideways they couldn't adapt, untrained in BCM and independent thought. Set the N Vietnamese back months, wondering what happened. Certainly took the heat off the Thuds after that for a while. Robin Olds was the last of the Warrior Kings. Throw a nickel in the grass, save a fighter pilot's ass.

I live in Wa (ARMY Brat Est. 79) and I can attest to the cold water. First 90* day(s) I typically hit the Snoqualmie river with some beers. Fly fish, and swim while there is snow off in the distance. The ice bath thing is weird to me. Just put the shower on cold ffs. When we go to Lake Wenatchee in June I have to check my girls to make sure they are not hypothermic. They DGAF about cold water. They just want to swim.
