Most vehicles are tested at a state run emissions center. Unless your car runs clean enough to pass there is no way a inspector can pass you. Depending on the year of the your car, the check engine light can be illuminated and pass as long as it runs clean enough. California just passed a law requiring your car to have the original tuned engine control module. This can be determined by them accessing your data. Having a tuned ecm can cause your car to fail because the parameters have been reset. Alot of states have eliminated a safety inspection. They may test your gas cap also.

I love rural Texas they don't do any emissions test and they only check lights, windshield wipers, and proof of insurance

I literally passed inspection two years ago with my 2009 Mazda 3 having a vacuum leak. Cleared the code drove to the DMV and passed no problem 🤷🏼♂️

I'm glad I live in Minnesota my truck has pretty much every warning light on I don't even plug a scanner in because I don't even want to know how much is wrong with it but it still drives perfect. Sometimes

I love my $7 diesel inspection. Only thing they wanted was a muffler. So glasspack went in which did absolutely nothing. But it is a “muffler”

as someone who drives a non emissions friendly car, i live in the hood we just take it to the tire shop down the road and slip them a $20, plus my town isnt that strict on emissions.

There is no state in the US that has safety/visual/emissions inspections where shops haven't figured out workarounds.

Correct, no amount of bribe money will make a failing car pass. But a little bit of bribe money will make the right people think your car passed.

Lived in CA the shop I went to was in the Mexican side of town slipped the guy a 50 and some lunch and passed. Had check engine light on for bad catalytic converters.

My buddies an inspector. I asked him if he could inspect my car, 2 second later and he had a full sheet worked up for me! What’s even crazier is he picked me up that day! My car was at my house! Put that “no amount of money can pass a test” in your juice box and suck it! Friends are better than money!

I had a check engine light on a 2004 Acura TL. Got the code wiped, went to the emissions place right after and passed.

You can modify the tune so that the control modules don’t send any MILs/DTCs

If your mechanic doesn't want to work on your vehicle because they don't like what you're asking, then keep going to different mechanics untill you find someone willing to work, that's "Your guy" you take everything to that guy, he's a cool guy for passing you for that inspection, so when the engine falls out, you better take that car to him to replace the engine. Any shops who don't want to pass you for small things don't deserve your money or your time.
@slim12602 жыл бұрын
Even though they just recently made it harder to have this done, you can still do it pretty easily. I’ve never had a car that would be considered “roadworthy“ by law. That being tent, straight piped, too low, not enough width in the fenders, etc. and I’ve always passed inspection at various different locations.

Eh, I'm in NC. And I've seen inspection stations pass a car that I can guarantee 110% did not pass inspection.

easiest way is to just ask friends and family if they know a mechanic. found like 3 people who would pass my tints this way

A buddy of mine runs an inspection place. He used to pass my MK5 GTI for 3 years before I properly fixed my engine light. Its in Texas. He would use his “dummy” truck, a 90s Toyota I believe which allows him to manually input all my car info for the truck since the truck is too old and doesnt have the computer module that automatically passes that info to the computer

there’s always a solution. disassemble the OBD port so you can’t check codes. also, take apart the dash and break the bulb for the check engine light. 🤯
@Mars-pp9cx2 жыл бұрын
The check engine light on my van has been on for so long that the bulb literally went out. And it has passed inspection every year in a state that requires yearly inspections. 😎

Actual there is. I had to work in California for 2 years. My old nissan wouldn't pass emissions. I found a Russian guy who wink wink made my truck pass.

A lot of auto shops near where I live only do emissions tests involving obd ii scanners. If they ever did a visual test, my car would have failed due to clunking noises in my car coming from old sway bar links.

So I have deleted codes, I've had a boost leak for years I know where it is in plastic tubing. Just too lazy to patch it. My code was temp or season sensitive. I just ensured by driving slower more control to let my cputer reset after the milage needed without popping the code. ....... in reality become a mechanic and make decisions off what you know. I drive a manual and I kept my RPM within RPM for 2 weeks . No hard down shits or late shifts. Automatics definitely don't have the ability to do this. At which again I agree with this guy you can't beat this. Boost leak is a definite failure due to aftertreatment temperature will not reach temp.

Of you take the negative terminal off your battery for about 5 minutes it erases the code and your check engine light

Yeah I can just set things to no error reported , and then set my fuel trims to be really lean . HP tuners is a wonderful thing . That test is easy to beat if you have the right tools . Good luck . Quick edit , I don't live in a state that does emissions .
@I_EAF_198822 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. The code resets after a certain number of miles. Just get the check engn light reset then drive 20 miles and then get it inspected. Likely the light isn't back on yet but the code reset. I have done this 3 times with an old Camry.

Where I'm from I wonder if vehicle inspections are even a thing, dudes will be riding down the street going 30 mph over the speed limit with 3 out of 4 doors missing, front bumper missing back bumper and muffler scraping against the ground, exhaust pipe blowing out clouds of black smoke a trunk that won't close, body damage that makes it look like it's been in 5 different collisions with semi-trucks, every window is just a garbage bag and I'm pretty sure the windshield is a patch job done by the guys friend who says "trust me bro I'm not a mechanic but I know what I'm doing", completely rusted out undercarriage and the floorboard has chihuahua sized holes in it, the interior lining is all but decimated and at least 3 of the seats are just regular dining/lawn chairs that have been taped and tied down to the floorboard.
