I happen to have the whole thing on Blu-Ray, so I recorded the entire intro with Fraps.
Edit: I didn't know much about editing or encoding 7 years ago when I recorded and uploaded this. I can definitely say this is not true full HD. It was the best quality on KZfaq at the time of uploading though.
Background/Credits to this show:
It APPEARS FUNimation has rights to the series here on youtube. I really hope you don't decide to get this taken down... I'm not going to be uploading any more from this show than this video. I see it more as promoting it.
The song is Rise, and it's by Origa.
Ghost in the Shell was made by the Japanese anime studio by the name of Production I.G. It was directed by Kenji Kamiyama.
It was/is broadcasted by the Animax (アニマックス) network in Japan, and the Nippon Television Network Coorporation (日本テレビ放送網株式会社).
As far as I know, Bandai Entertainment owns rights to it, possibly along with other companies? Starzmediavod seems to have rights to it here on KZfaq actually. I'm not sure.

First I was like it's like The Matrix urh. But then they said it in the show "this is the asian matrix". Also great news they are moving to ban anything deemed as child porn (the young characters fools). Which means we are returning to the glory days of adult characters! everyone always talks about how the matrix changed the sci fi genre, but it was always Ghost in the Shell in the shadows that really drove the genre. Even now it still depicts the near future like a fine line just waiting to be crossed, but still seems so futuristic at the same time

Russian is well suited for songs, I might be biased, but rhyming in Russian is easier and thus most of the songs flow on their own not requiring a beat For example here, every Russian line is rhymed, but in English 1/3 are rhymed with 2/3 just maintaining the rhythm and sentence length

Well it >is< an opening and thus not necessarily representing all-time quality, although I always thought GitS:SAC was ranking very high up. Maybe it's the franchise, maybe it's Production I.G. I guess they didn't want to fuck around when they abandoned this all-CGI-opening from season 1/1st GIG ("If we're gonna do "classic" animation" we're at least gonna do it with style and quality).

the villain of 2nd gig is low key one of the greatest anime villains ever because he's such a realistic piece of shit. probably the most cyberpunk thing about Ghost in the Shell SAC is its observation about the grotesque things people with power will do when they think they can get away with it. that's always a running theme of great cyberpunk - the people at the top will use any technology at their disposal to exploit the rest of us, if we let them. Which is exactly what all of us are doing now, by the way. letting evil people burn the world, so we all die in calamities in the next century and they survive to write a history where they were the heroes. are we going to let this stand?

Yoko Kanno worked with origa to create both GitS openings, but Origa is the group that performed them. Yoko Kanno just aided in production. Her other works are pretty great though

Thats one thing I love about this opening. Its one of the few anime openings that isnt just Japanese, English, or a mix of the two. In Japanese, this song would still be awesome, but using Russian mixed with those very specific English parts for this song made it simply chilling. Ive heard this song upwards of an honest 600+ times, but no matter how many times I listen and watch it, it never fails to give me chills. Not even once. Thank you SO much for uploading in such great quality!

First anime I watched as a kid along with gundam, robotech / macross and cowboy bebop. I've seen all the movies and seasons maybe a thousand times and never gets old. The season sets are like $200 on amazon but when i get the money available i'm getting them. Hands down my favorite anime.

The song and the animated art that goes with it is beyond beautiful. When I first started watching this show, I didn't really understand it at all, but somehow I still enjoyed the hell out of it. I actually remember a time when I knew what the hell was going on in the episodes. I think it's ashamed that shows like "Paranoia Agent" and "Samurai Champloo" were so short, I think they definitely had more potential to be full blown tv series.
