Also they failed the first few times they actually tried to catch a ghost. The original ghost busters caught Slimer without any practice at all, but these kids actually had to chase the Muncher multiple times to make a catch. So they didnt just write the new characters to be perfect.

Especially here on this channel they tend to do that a lot. They had a severe case of amnesia with Last Night in Soho, The Eternals and now this one. Those details they forget paint such an unfair representation of what is. It’s kind of annoying at this point how often it’s happening. Almost every review.

If ghost sightings had died down for years, I could see a possibility that the other Ghostbusters might doubt Egon. And if Egon was convinced he had to abandon his family to save the world and protect them, I totally believe he would make that decision.

Also to be fair, we don't really know whether or not Egon didn't quote on quote "go nuts" in some form, sure he was ultimately right about the town, but they did established that with Ray that Egon "believed" something was going to happen and took off, he only gave Ray a call like 10 years later trying to get him on board, meaning that he most likely discovered the pit and the countdown years after running off. Sure it's convenient that they set it up to make it so Ray at that point wouldn't believe him anymore but hey shit happens sometimes in life.

I watched Ghostbusters Afterlife a couple hours ago. It was my first time in a theatre since the start of the pandemic. I have to say . . . director Jason Reitman and his team did a pretty good job. Watching this film, you can tell that a lot of effort, care, love, and emotion went into creating it. I liked how it covered what happened from the 1980s until now. The film never really touched on the 2nd film (Ghostbusters 2) though. That was kinda odd. In a nutshell: Ghostbusters Afterlife is a fun, cool, and warm-hearted, gift to real Ghostbusters fans such as myself. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Endings are important and it's almost rule cause when i write it's like a slope going up. You have to deliver the goods at the end because no matter that's what the thing people will remember. I think Alex has the best take on this. I feel like there were some deleted or missing scenes, particularly when the ghosts get loose. I fully expected more at the police station with the cops reacting to this. Aside from that gripe this movie has a very well put together emotional climax and particularly during the first half some solid scares and tension building, I have no idea what angry Joe is talking about saying it was afraid to go into the darker scarier stuff.
@JoeGrizz1y

This movie for me was a blast. It gave the vibe of an 80s adventure movie for the first 2/3. None of the characters were annoying or bad. They wrote this film to lay against the campiness and silliness of the originals without going to far. This was a great way to explore the events of the first movie and tell a new one without ruining anything. This felt just as much as a return to form and I am excited for a sequel that could explore more of this world of Ghostbusters. I agree with Alex that the film was good with the build up. I enjoyed the ending and big battle, but it’s true that they could’ve explored the original villain more. Besides the kids not really feeling like a team or ghostbusters, Besides Spangler, nothing was to horrendous or bad. The Keymaster seen was pretty weird to begin with in the original and they went full crazy here. The original ending upon rewatch felt very rushed as well but done a lot better, so it doesn’t bother me that it ended quickly. Few nitpick things if you want to look at it critically. As someone who loves the original movie, this was a fun adventure. This is a great movie 8/10 movie for me. Surely will add to the collection and give more than 1 rewatch. (Extra) Egons separation actually makes sense. The others were enjoying it as it made money. Once the money and business stopped they went on to have families and different jobs. They believe they beat the villain. It caused riffs between the group and they wrote him off as crazy and that he was just to into the job that wasn’t profitable anymore. Egon made the choice to put himself away to protect the ones he loved and to figure out how to end this impending doom. He didn’t know the villain was going to be the same, just that something was happening.

Egon leaving DOES make sense. Ray said "Egon didn't want to catch ANY other ghosts" He was obsessed with Gozer, to the detriment of the business. Then he RUNS off with Ecto-1, proton packs, and traps. It WAS Ray that financed the business remember. So he would be upset about that. The theatre we go to is a gamble. Sometimes they keep the lights off for nothing, other times they turn them on and there's a scene afterwards. I missed the post credit scene for the Black Widow movie for instance because of that. Had to find it online after AngryJoe's review mentioned there was a post credit scene in the spoilers section. Lately as the credits are rolling I google on my phone whether there is something or not. As Nicholas pointed out, I don't do this before the movie as I don't want to be spoiled. Also, I think it made some sense as to why Egon left his family and took the gear from the Original team. He knew what he had to do wasn't going to be a good thing to subject his family to and wanted to give everyone a chance at a normal life, while he took it on himself to keep the portal at bay. They didn't completely ignore Ghostbusters 2, Ray's Occult bookstore is from that movie, so that's there. Plus Winston acted more like himself from GB 2 then he did with GB 1 when Ernie Hudson had that mustache and kept wanting to distance himself from the other guys when they got thrown in jail and had legal trouble.

I found this movie quite charming and creative with the source material, and while some of the motivations were a bit clunky, overall it felt like the kind of movie I would have enjoyed back in the day as much as today.

I just got back from seeing it. Would probably give it an 8 or 9. A reboot done right. Spoilers: It was very respectful to the original film. Great characters. Paul Rudd was superb as a comic lead. The kids were great, though the sheriff's daughter could have been fleshed out a bit more, and I loved the mom. As a 42 year old parent, I found her relatable in a way that isn't often done well in films. As for the ending, not going to lie, I nearly cried. Easily the most respectful and justified use of CGI of a deceased actor I've ever seen. I particularly got the impression that Jason Reitman told the actors "just say what you'd want to say to Harold if he were here". Just beautiful. Especially the line "I wish I'd picked up the phone. I miss you man" sounds more like something Ernie Hudson would have said to Harold Ramis, rather than something relevent to the script/characters. Just beautiful. Yes, the recreation of some scenes (especially the Gozer temple) were just rehashes of the original, but for some reason this didn't feel as cheap or forced to me as it did on other films. As someone who has been a lifelong Ghostbusters fan (and who went into the 2016 film thinking of take any addition to the franchise as welcome, then thoroughly disappointed in the unfunny car crash that turned out to be), I can't recommend it enough.

The child next to me in the theater would not sit down, constantly talking, constantly moving around, well under 8 yrs old and definitely a contender for ADHD. Not the child’s fault, the damn parents did nothing parental.

This happened to me when I watched Spider-man No Way Home. Being it a family movie, I purposely went at the last screening of the day hoping there will be less kids. There was one and totally ruined my experience because she was talking non-stop, getting on and off her chair walking around inside the theatre. I blame the parents.

My theory about the proton packs is the one Pheobe had was dismantled, it was being worked on before everything happened (trying not to spoil anything), perhaps that one was being modified for more power. Since things naturally would mean in a sequel would have to be ramped up I simply assumed that one was being hot rodded.

Watched this last night with my family. We went out in our flight suits and packs! The theater thanked us for coming in full regalia and gave us passes for our next visit. I have been a fan since the original release in 1984. When Other Joe mentions the packs have the same power when Pheobe fires at Gozer. Keep in mind that was Egon's pack and was there all alone and had modified it quite extensively. It is plausible to say that it might have more power than the stock packs of the rest of the group. Just a thought.

This movie is a "Love Letter to Harold Ramis" and a very fitting movie worthy of the Ghostbusters name. I'm very happy with it, and am hoping to see the GB franchise carry on to more movies.

I don't like how Phoebe was recklessly firing off the protonpack, especially when on the gunner seat, she could've killed someone, like her mother who was sitting just inches away from it in the diner.

Took the wife and kids to see it in Cinemark-XD yesterday. We all loved it! I like the throw back to the puppeteered demons they used in the OG movie by making it look somewhat 80's special effects (and animations) with a mix of modern effects and CGI.
