hollywood doesn't seem to realize you can't just make a hit. things become popular naturally and you'll never be able to recreate that type of natural magic.

I agree a lot of cult classic type films basically captured lightning in a bottle and adding to the story in a remake or sequel can range from pointless to mildly interesting at best one example I often use is hocus pocus 2 it was such a nothing burger of a film

Ghostbusters' frozen empire was decent, in my opinion. The afterlife was definitely better, and the original first two were better. People who are adults that we're fans growing up are not made for them, I feel like. It's more made for kids. Paul rudd is amazing in these. But I do like Celeste O'Connor probably because I got a crush on her.

I finally saw it last night. It pains me to say this but I have to be honest; Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a bad movie. The film is a mess. It's boring, poorly paced, confusing, convoluted and overly complicated. Too many characters, many of which have been needlessly shoehorned into the story. It's overstuffed with unnecessary dialogue, subplots, characters and scenes which go on for far too long. It's not funny either. I didn't laugh once during the movie, and neither did the audience I was watching it with. Neither is it scary. Laughs and scares are the two things you expect from a Ghostbusters film but this film doesn't provide any. Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan may be talented directors, but they're the wrong people to be writing these films. With a heavy heart, I rate this film 3 out of 10. I feel a lot of fans are in denial about just how bad this film is.

NO. NO you didn't and the people who constantly fart that out have no clue WTF they're even talking about...Remakes and sequels have been a thing for decades not just now.....I bet your one of those people who thinks Looney Tunes garbage Scarface is amazing and has no clue that its a remake of a remake of a movie made in 1929...Or A Star is Born was a remake of a remake of a Judy Garland movie.... It will never stop being hilarious when people try to talk about sequels reboots as if they're something new and exclusive to now. Protip; because the big tentpole movies are alot of sequels and reboots doesn't change that hundreds of movies are made a year the number of reboots is minimal in the total. The problem/cancer are the people who think that movies must have 25 sequels and, can't handle that a movie can have a story and end the story with the movie. Its OK for a story to just end and not need 15 timelines, 25 sequels, etc.

Garraka was more powerful and represented a much bigger threat than Gozer or Vigo. We saw people die from Garraka where that didn’t happen with the original films. Gozer damaged a street/block maximum, Garraka froze an entire city. Phoebe Spengler is the best character to come out since the 90’s. She has the most character development and suits her role. She has Egon’s vibe and is a believable replacement. Logical with some rage when pushed. Let’s also not forget that Phoebe is only 15. That being said you complain that this is kid Ghostbusters, yet her and Podcast are the only kids in the film. Also Walter Peck was right in the first film too, but I bet you don’t complain about that? You love Paul Rudd so much, and that’s fine, but it’s just Paul Rudd playing Paul Rudd.
@WeWatchedAMovie
@WeWatchedAMovie 3 ай бұрын
A) Who cares if Garraka was more powerful. They are fictional characters and this one was a CG blob that could have come out of any bad superhero movie. B) Yeah when the plot focuses on a 15 year old and her ghost friend for the majority of the running time....it's a kids movie. And finally if Paul Rudd playing Paul Rudd is the most interesting part of a movie? You probably aren't watching a great movie. Also, if your idea of Ghostbusters is a little kid running around whining and being dumb enough to end her life to be w a ghost for 30 seconds, then we aren't looking for the same things. That is NOT the spirit of Egon nor a good replacement for an adult who's a fascinating, hilarious and smart character.

@leondonnelly6271 3 ай бұрын
@@WeWatchedAMovie Egon tried to drill a hole in his head and attempted to assault Peck in front of police. He was an incredibly intelligent character, but also had issues. Phoebe is also incredibly intelligent like Egon with that eccentric streak. Also she didn’t end her own life, she even stated in the film that it wasn’t lethal. I certainly don’t have a problem with her character or Paul Rudd, however McKenna Grace changes her persona for different roles, whereas Paul Rudd seems mostly the same in his films. As for Garraka, he created much higher stakes for the Ghostbusters compared Gozer or Vigo with more screen time than them. People seem to complain about Garraka being defeated too easily, yet he had more screen time and was more difficult to defeat than the other two.
@WeWatchedAMovie
@WeWatchedAMovie 3 ай бұрын
The drill thing was a joke and wasn't bc he was mad at his parents for refusing to sacrifice their entire company and go to jail because she wanted to be a Ghostbuster 3 years sooner. And again, I don't care how powerful or how much screen time Garraka had. The character was a carbon copy of a thousand other CGI bad guys. It was neither fun nor interesting.

@@WeWatchedAMovie We don’t know what Egon was like at 15. I’m betting similar. So you’re saying Garraka was garbage just because he was CGI? He was just as fleshed out as Gozer or Vigo.

@@rockmusicforever90 To be fair, the stuff from the 80's was meant to be just for kids and pre-teens as well. Not only Ghostbusters, but movies/tv shows across the board. I mean hell, look at the original Beetlejuice for example. That movie was rated PG. "Nice fucking model! *HONK HONK*" The new one will more than likely be PG-13 and it still won't have anything of that nature in it. When I watch movie reaction channels now, and I see people reacting to these classic movies that were part of my childhood, I'm just reminded of what we had in the entertainment industry before. Literal art was being produced for the masses to consume. The movie creation process was full of creativity and heart. Models were constructed, the story was well established and masterfully executed in the filmmaking process. Ghostbusters Frozen Empire is just another example of what we have to consume now in general, and any sequel is going to fall victim to the same fate.

@@gamedojotv I very much agree, these are sad times and for the entertainment industry as well. It's like, they know it's bad now so they must artificially pump up the artists whether it's pop stars or movies to look as big and grand and important as possible because the artistic content of value is not actually there, so they must trick the audiences into thinking this stuff is somehow great when it's really not. Seduce the masses with fluff, like a trip to an amusement park. I'm reminded of the last Indy or Star Wars flops here. This particular franchise, is one of those where all one needs is basically the brilliant original no need for the rest. Sometimes they just can't surpass brilliance, so why even try.

I loved it, Look my favorite movie is 84, I saw 89 (2) in Theater, I watched both cartoons, I have the game and hated 2016 but loved Afterlife. Today we don't have films like the 80s which I may not like, The key reason why Harold Ramis bless him died, Dan, Bill, Ernie and Annie are older and the kids which I think McKenna is great lead because I sense Egon within her performance. I think this would work better as a live action series. I think it would have worked better if Samhain was brought back. Linking maybe the Real Ghostbusters series is slight cannon. But it being to kiddy well look We are going to see it now, as older folks, I turned 41 yesterday. To see this and last film I never thought it would happen, like Beetlejuice 2 and X-men 97. Call me crazy, but I liked it. It wasn’t without its problems. Like why did the young guy in the crowd call the mayor dickless? Not only was he not there when Peter and Ray called him that, I’m willing to bet he wasn’t even born yet. And if Phoebe and the flame ghost are supposed to be gay, why did they have no chemistry? If they do a third one, they should do that plot with them going to a Hell version of New York. There was a cartoon episode with that premise. Kinda a biased review if you ask me. They make some good criticisms. But it does sound like they had unrealistic expectations going into the film and are butthurt because it didn't turn out like they wanted. Is it a perfect film? No. Is it as bad as they claim? Hell no...
@RatingsIntoCash

@@melody-linkle The movie is based on a teenage girl's infatuation with a female ghost. Her whole wreckless infatuation with said ghost causes an unnecessary mess of allowing the freeze demon to get unleashed. Everything in the movie was all Phoebe's fault she's absolutely wreckless. Her lesbian wrecklessness causes an unnecessary mess. The movie has a few good ideas and concepts, other than that it's a flop.

@@RatingsIntoCash if that's all you got from the film then you were too focused on what you didn't like. Don't get me wrong, I see what you mean. It did feel a little bit, dare I say "gay" at times lol. But I think there was more to it than Phoebe has a crush on a ghost. She was dealing with the feeling of not being able to be herself because everyone was telling her she was too young to be a Ghostbuster, despite the fact that she was probably one of the most qualified in terms of the new group. She gravitated toward trusting a ghost girl aka Melody because she was the only one validating her feelings. In the end the ghost betrays her anyways. and Phoebe realizes that she should have more faith in the ppl that care about her because they just want what's best for her. Phoebe was so focused on trying to prove herself a Ghostbuster, that she put her trust in a stranger instead of the family who actually cared. Like I said, these two make some good points. But it's also a bit exaggerated. Just my opinion.
@RatingsIntoCash
@RatingsIntoCash 3 ай бұрын
@@melody-linkle Phoebe the most qualified Ghostbuster?? Hell nah. She's proven to be nothing but absolutely wreckless in everything that she does every since the previous sequel. The whole ice demon getting unleashed could've been easily avoided and it getting unleashed was all due to her self selfish, self centered wrecklessness and her wrecklessness literally isn't even funny. I look at the movie as an unfair, huge FU to males, especially Asian males as Podcast clearly friendzoned by Phoebe every since the previous movie all in disfavor to a dead girl who isn't even living. Podcast's only purpose in the movie is solely to exist as cannon fodder for rejection and humiliation. Pathetic... The whole woke agenda of the movie is anti-male, anti-orthodox and painfully it overshadows any good aspects that there are about it.

I wouldn't say this movie was amazing but I think you two are perhaps criticizing this one a little too much. I completely understand some of the criticisms. But Phoebe Spengler was being set up to be the next Ghostbuster for the new generation. Ghostbusters Afterlife was the gateway. They were opening up for the next era of Ghostbusters... I think this film was an 8/10, maybe a 7.5 at worst. I highly recommend ppl go watch it and make up your own opinion. This review, with the most respect, feels too biased. Believe me, I do think some things could have been so much better. But the film is not as bad as you two gentlemen are making it seem. I think OG fans owe it to themselves to watch this film. The original two Ghostbusters were so intelligently written. Afterlife was a sequel-remake but at least was charming and sentimental. Frozen Empire felt rushed and shallow. It felt more like a pilot to a tv show. A lot of setup but not much actual ghostbusting. The ending was anticlimactic. For what it’s worth, they are setup well for a series but I doubt that’s the direction they’ll go in.

The side characters were more interesting than the spangler family. I felt that the side characters along with paul rudd should have been the ghostbusters. Keep the mother and the kids in the firehouse with slimmer. I really liked that they incorporated a lot of the real ghostbusters animated series elements. I give it a 8 out of 10.

Since the movie seems to be doing well thus far and Sony wants to expand the GB universe I feel like why not make spin off movies with different tones. If this is going to be a continuing brand for Sony and if they are serious about expanding it I say keep this as the main series and do spin offs that have a variety of tones. You could do a spin off with just the old team and make it closer to the tone of the first 2. You could also do other spin offs with different GB teams all over the world with different tones and styles.

The subplot with Slimer was totally pointless, it was a new version of the deleted scenes of Louis trying to catch slimer from GB2. And even this new attempt had stuff cut out of it, in the trailer he fires the wand at slimer and that's not even in the movie. So much was slapped into trailers that somehow didn't make it into the final movie. Very deceptive marketing, especially the posters portraying this frozen city and the ghostbusters walking into it, wearing their red coats and ecto is centre stage.

I may be in the minority here, but I enjoyed the movie more than I thought. 1. The same cavalier irreverence that endeared me to the first movie is here in spades. 2. The ghosts got more depth and detail than just monsters to get busted. 3. The Possessor was a great and well-executed concept. 4. Several scenes managed to creep me out (in a good way), notably the prologue and the power outage, echoing the first movie's blend of comedy and fear. 5. Even if they missed a few beats, no characters or moments were bad enough to make me cringe (YMMV of course). I particular enjoyed Grooberson and Wartzki's characters. 6. I'm not sold on the idea that Phoebe and Melody's connection was strictly romantic; Phoebe is characterized by how difficult it is for her to connect with others, so even a platonic friendship would be a profound milestone for her. I'm not saying that you're wrong to be disappointed with the movie, but at least my girlfriend and I loved it.

I wanted to see a big movie, the trailer made me think it'd be big. What we got was maybe 30 minutes of something like a ghostbusters movie and a whole hour of family drama/ middling tv series type plodding along trying to have an overly bloated cast do something. I'd had got Michael bay to direct and made walter peck a real antagonist where his attitude is 'i'm mayor, i'm gonna deal with this' and he's like 'i'm shutting you down, i got my own team now' In walks these ex- navy seal, alternate logo, alternate ghostbusters with different gear, like theres been an anti-ghostbusters ghostbusters team he's been working towards, they try to take down garraka but all get wiped out. The movie had good pacing in the start, the end was better (but rushed) but you have this middle hour that needed a lot of rework.
