Besides Kirby, and Hoover Convertibles, these are the vacuums I grew up with. I got a tan, Eureka model 630D for Christmas of 1989. I had that machine for many, many years. I did later donate it to charity in 2003, but it was still working when I let it go.

I always liked both the sound of these machines and the smooth way that the glided over a plush cut saxony carpet. The feeling was more like pushing a powerhead than an entire upright vacuum cleaner. That’s why I bought one along with a Mighty Might when I moved into my first apartment almost forty years ago.

Love the 80s pink. The bag pattern really define the late 80s.

I am always interested in how much particulates escape in older vacuums? And I wonder about suction strength? My mom had one that vibrated and lifted anything down in the carpet. I think back and wonder about the dust kicked up and not sucked in?

I just picked up a yellow Eureka version for $9.99 at goodwill. It works great, it’s a 1999 model and sounds smooth, though the roller in mine still needs some attention.

My parents still use one of these that they got as a gift in 1987. It sucks up rugs still but it also stinks when it runs. I've been trying to get them to replace it with a modern bypass vacuum but they won't listen to me.

I somehow have either looked past this channel, or something. Wish I would have found it years ago, I have been really enjoying it lately. out of all of the vacuums I have seen and worked with, these old eureka direct air machines like this are probably my favorites. I only have one right now, I have not really found any recently. Mine does not have the "blender motor" it has a motor that looks like the older modern sanitaire motor, but is only a 3.5 amp motor. The bearings are sadly failing, I found a made in mexico sainitaire motor on ebay for like $40, which is a 4 amp motor that looks just like the old blender motor. I may get that and see what I can do with that. It is the same mounting plate and fan. What is that plastic piece that you said most people throw away for? I have never seen one of those.

Are Eureka and sanitare the same? Looks exactly like the commercial sanitare.

I like how you describe what you're doing, makes your videos really easy to follow since I can't see the screen. Based on the sound, I'm going to guess that this upright is the dirty air, or direct air type, I'm not sure what the official term is to describe those but it did not sound like a clean air upright.

I have this exact vac. I only need to replace step on/off switch. Do I need to completely disassemble as you did, because I a lot of your operation was out of camera view. Can you do an installation class on this?

Great tutorial - would have been even better if some of it weren't off-screen. I looked in your playlist for another Eureka repair job but was unable to find any. I'm a novice and would appreciate if you'd make another 1400 Series repair vid when you have the time. I'd especially like to see how to repack the motor bearings and lube the roller bearings. I found one similar to this, but I can't get the fan off. It's destroyed like the last owner vacuumed rocks or nails. Do you know any tricks to get it loose without damaging the rest of the motor?

Good job mate. I just found a Dyson DC40 next to a dumpster. Lol 😂 This is the second vacuum I have found here lately. The dust bin latch that holds it on to the vacuum is broke but other then that it seems ok. Dirty bin but it runs well. What are your thoughts on this vac?
