I acquired a breeding trio of Archispirostreptus gigas or Giant African Millipedes and today I'm just going to show you what a VERY simple bin can look like for these guys. Want to get weird with it? Perfect, skies the limit! I however am going with a simple breeder bin focused on feeding them, and keeping them happy - because they're myriadpods you see, and don't care if it looks pretty.

They seem happy enough that they starting mating IMMEDIATELY so thats a GREAT sign!

Well, my ultimate goal is to get a breeding program so they won't cost so much. Ultimately pricing is determined by scarcity vs demand and EVERYBODY is selling wild caught for absolutely outrageous prices because they can.

sorry bunch of questions since it looks like you know what your doing! where did you get the screen plugs from? i saw them in searches but.. -are you aware of any plastic types that wont rust or are those stainless steel? how is the moss doing 2 months on-without light etc also I understand/saw pix they poop ALOT any idea how you will deal with that/cleaning it out etc(-i know the babies need some to eat for there gut biome etc)

Will try to answer these in order: 1. Ventmasters.com 2. They have plastic ones! 3. Its moss. Not as vibrant but alive! 4. Springtails :)

Is there a specific wood they need? Also how are they doing!!

Theyre doing great! Cypress, maple, Walnut, cherry and oak all work, just avoid ANY soft woods. I put corkbark as a hide for them. Theyve been laying lots of babies - keeping the babies alive is a different challenge, but I am figuring it out!

Would one in a 5.5 Gallon be ok?

I would definitely go bigger - if max size is 13 inches, then rule of thumb would be 36x36 to allow for proper molting etc. Id do a 25 gallon tank MINIMUM, and even bigger if doing multiples.

Love Mantis Garden! Millipedes are SUPER cute, and if you're into isopods, I'd HIGHLY recommend them as well!
