What's the 44 Club? Well it all started in the outro of this video • HOW TO BOTTLE FLIP (ON... where we wondered if anyone was still watching the video at that point, and to comment 44 (Scott's fave number) if they were. Brett then said 44 Club get on board and the rest is history. The 44Club is the official How Ridiculous fan club made up of people who love our videos and watch them right to the very end. We've even got 44 Club merch now! So yeh, that's the story. Pretty random but good fun at the same time.
We are passionate about seeing children released from poverty and we would love you to consider sponsoring a child with Compassion. We visited our sponsor children in the Philippines and were blown away by the difference that child sponsorship can make. To find out more about sponsoring a child right now, check out: cmpsn.co/howridiculous
What Slow Mo Camera Do We Use? We've got the The Chronos 1.4 which shoots 1500fps at 720p. Check it out here bit.ly/KrontechChronos
A big thanks to the awesome crew at the Gravity Discovery Centre in Gingin for letting us use their 45m leaning tower for our own experiments. If you wanna head out there and check it out, it's not far from Perth. Western Australia: gravitycentre.com.au/leaning-...

No, if anyone's action in any situation were exactly the same as someone else's in any situation everyone would do the same action in every exact same situation (which does happen) and the world would fall apart. Only a God could do that.

Water freezes from the out side in. Pushing all impurity’s to the middle. That’s why there is always a white cloud in your ice cube! Like so other can see!
@Vespuchian

If they insulate the bin they use with bubble wrap it'll freeze from the top down (and bottom up) and it'll prevent a lot of that cloudiness. Be neat to see a clear brick of ice that size.
@ragyrag2493
@ragyrag2493 4 жыл бұрын
Yessir, the impurities are "pushed" to the middle because having more solvent (atoms other than water) decreases the freezing temp so it will freeze slower. The "pure" water will freeze on the edges while the dye will make it harder for water to freeze by disrupting the crystal that water forms until there is no where left for the dye to go but into the ice crystals.

* impurities. You almost got it

@Internet-Antics 4 жыл бұрын
Apparently whatever was in the dye really doesn't fit well into the crystal lattice of solid ice, because the edges are remarkable clear. That and the fact it probably took a while to freeze. (slower freezing typically correlates with more regularity in the crystaline packing and, depending on the system/mixture, could push edge regions towards greater purity).

I figured it would have something to do with most food coloring being alcohol based causing a portion of the water to freeze later than the rest.

So the reason the ice color freezes unevenly is because the water freezes from the outside in but the food coloring doesn't wanna freeze and stays in the water, but because the volume of liquid water decreases over time, the coloring is forced to freeze with the water volume. The pattern shows you the shape of the unfrozen liquid at the time the saturation point got hit.

New Viddy idea, instead of dropping stuff on to the bullet proof glass, drop the glass on to stuff, like a mega dart pointed upward
@codyringer1857
@codyringer1857 4 жыл бұрын
Firstly you might want to consider the difference in aerodynamics of a sheet of glass and a dart. Everything they are dropping has completely negligible air resistance. Any sheet like material would catch the air and always fly off target. It's basic science why they don't drop a sheet of glass...

The reason why the cones are apearing in your frozen ice blocks.... If you have ever taken basic chemistry you would realize that only pure, singular substances freeze uniformly. The coloring is not an aqueous solution so it would be defined as a mixture of H2O and food coloring. Derek is right that subjects freeze from the outside in but if food coloring and water was flash frozen it wouldn't be so centered. No matter how subtle, convection currents are the real reason the food coloring is centered. Hot(ter) water is in the top and cold(er) water is on the bottom. This density change is an ideal spot for the food coloring because the food coloring is more dense than the hot water but not as dense as the cold water. This process happens both vertically and horizontally but it takes time in order to do this, which is why a mixture of food coloring and water that is flash frozen would not have as distinct of a circluler cone in the center. If you actually took the time to read this, that's cool, all this information only comes from a AP Chemistry student from Manistee MI USA that has way too much time on his hands.

It’s simple af boys 💁‍♀️ The freezing point is 0° Celsius (32° Fahrenheit or 273 kelvin). When it was beginning to get colder and colder the moment it hit the cold of the freezer, the solid particles within it immediately begin to move towards the center of the product due to the pressure building up slowly but also rapidly. This chain reaction is called “freezing”

@eroraf8637
@eroraf8637 4 жыл бұрын
Good thought, but there’s only so much you can do to minimize energy loss. Either way, the COM energy won’t change that much. By the time the base knows what happened, the ice and glass have already shattered.
@justnick1566
@justnick1566 4 жыл бұрын
phillip nickel good idea, but it probably wouldn’t be worth the effort to set up considering the minimal effect it would realistically have. Think about it, by the time the frame starts digging into the sand a lot of the energy from (insert item being dropped) built up from the drop has already been released into the glass. So the steel would stop the frame from digging in as much, although it wouldn’t affect the level of damage dealt to the glass by much.

Others have answered the dye-water freezing question, but not completely - the dye is dissolved in the water, and lowers its freezing point, just like salt. If you take a bucket of saltwater and freeze it, the ice on the outside will be made up of fresh-water because it has pushed the salt out of its crystalline structure as it freezes. If you get the bucket cold enough, eventually the concentrated saltwater in the interior will freeze, but it takes a lot longer. Same with the dye. So in conclusion, if you want to avoid this, just keep stirring the buckets every 10-15 minutes after the water within drops to about 2 degrees C. This will keep the dye distributed evenly, and will force the ice to be coloured throughout (though it will not freeze at zero degrees C like normal...you might need to cool it to -4 or -5).

Freezes from outside in, water can hold more dissolved impurities when hot and can't hold any when solid (frozen)... As it freezes it releases the dissolved impurities i.e. the food colouring, into the water in the middle until that freezes and it has no where to go so it stays in the middle, not even dissolved, just mixed in finely and frozen. Addition: there is more at the top, hence the cone shape, as it is less dense than the water so it just floated before it froze/as it froze... Not sure which froze first but either the colour froze first and floated on the water or the water froze and sunk.

In the slow motion footage of the ice block hitting the glass I noticed how the tarp moved. I thought a good trick for you to try is to have a table cloth covering two tables and drop a bowling ball into it and have dishes on the table cloth and see if they will still stand. Similar you could have a large round table with a table cloth and plates and glasses. Then drop a bowling ball into the middle of the table. The ball will cut a clean hole through the table and take the table cloth with it leaving just the plates and glasses standing. If the bowling ball is not heavy enough to cut cleanly through the table then go up to the atlas stones.

the impurities of the water are drawn inwards because the ice freezes from the outside, the color, as well as any other bacterias, are drawn in and so that's why it is as Gaunson said, conglomerating in the middle

When water freezes from the outside in, it 1, will push all impurities toward the center, as well as separate because of the varying densities and freezing temperatures of varying liquids (think oil and water).. furthermore, freezing points of the solid outside of the ice increases the internal pressure of the water molecules inside, which, periodically, remain at a higher, non-freeing temperature as it gets closer to the center of the block. Because these inner molecules are still moving faster than the water molecules that have settled (frozen), the inner layer sustains a larger space between molecules, resulting in small increases in pressure that is acting outward on the outer frozen layer. Think of it as tiny micro-expansions, where tiny bursts of internal pressure through the external shell, allow for the decrease in temperature inside, and thus reduces the space between molecules moving, allowing for internal freezing. This could explain when you let ice sit, it becomes porus, or it sweats, as those cavities that allowed for heat and pressure to be released when the water was freezing are now widening at a faster rate. This could also be a possible theory as to why water is one of the only liquids that expands when freezing.
