Here's something I never thought I'd see. Prestige Motorsports (www.prestigemoto.com) is building a big 427 cubic inch LS3 with a big-hog 10-71 roots blower on top -- to go into a classic Volkswagen Thing! See it all and let us know what you think.
Here's a link to our comparison build -- Prestige's 427 LS with a slightly smaller 8-71 blower: • Gaint LS! -- Roots Blo...

What I like about your builds is that instead of just throwing tons of money at the engine, you guys use your head and make sure everything you add on or modify WORKS and has a definite reason for being in the motor. P.S. Besides muscle cars I've had 5 VDub Transporters....so this has a special interest for me. Of course, the BBC is a known quantity, too. Doggone - when you fired that up with the blower, I was afraid it would throw the belt......are you sure you don't need another spring-loaded tensioner? OOPS! Spoke too soon! LOL

Just wanted to give the guys a big thanks for helping me decide which pistons I would use in my 383. I was torn between the old standby Weisco and the DSS fx series. After seeing a few builds from Prestige using DSS I went ahead n took the leap. When they showed up I was more than impressed!! Top quality and all wighed +/- .05 grams

Ive got a goofy little combo going together! I'm using mostly stuff I got laying around, I did some trading last year and ended up with a aluminum L33 5.3 block and I have a few good sets of gen4 4.8 rod's, Pistons and cranks I picked the best ones weighed all the rods and Pistons there all within a gram with rod wrist pin piston and rings I was proud of that,picked up a rebuild kit from TSP arp rod bolts a BTR blower cam that's probably a bit much lol some of there 120$ push rods ls7 lifters some .660 springs and some lifters I already had with trunion kit in them a set of 799's that have probably been decked as much as possible they have had a rough life lol ls9 head gaskets some arp studs I'm running my old summit brand 102mm sheet metal intake and throttle body (I went to a Holley low ram 16 injector setup last winter in the race car I swapped to methanol in 2019 and was running 8 precision 550's but struggled with the tune then picked up some billet Atomizer 325's and hated them They stuck open all the damn time so I went back with what I know Bosch 210's 16 of them lol) I'm running Bosch 210's and gonna run e90 and Holley EFI but the fun part is the tourqe storm blower and I pulled out my old air to water intercooler and 5 gallon ice/water tank Ive never had a blower car just turbo and nitrous it should be a rowdy little feller it's in my 77 nova my pawpaw bought new and the first car I Ls swapped and turbo'ed I've got a pretty nice glide and ptc converter and the 8.5 10 bolt is filled with strange axles gear and spool the car has been 5.90's with a sbe 4.8 back in 2016 it was sketchy getting it slowed down with the factory disc brakes and drums out back lol it's just been sitting so I figured the old girl deserved some love so I cleaned it up and fixed any half ass shit I previously did went to a 1" drop Calvert leaf springs and painted the old caltracs and replaced the strange single adjustables out back with some doubles a buddy helped me out big time to get some decent brakes on its got strange disc brakes on all 4 corners now it really needed it back when it was running I had to put a parachute on it and used it quite a bit it had to be around 3300-3400 pounds and trapping low 120'smph it's gonna see alot of street miles so I pulled the 10 gallon cell and picked up a plastic summit 15 gallon and a Holley dual brushless 450 drop in cell fuel pump setup it's pretty close to being done I'm waiting on some solid state relays and aluminum pipe to finish the intercooler and charge pipe and lots of little things that are just agravating I've been waiting on my 7" Holley dash screen I bought my terminator ECU used and not a fan of the little 4" hopefully it will be done by early February I can't remember what it weighed with the turbo setup but I'm hoping to come in at less than 3500 with me and go 5.70's maybe .60's lol and be able to make at least 100 mile round trips no problem on pump 93 with a splash of VP's octane booster or boostane the compression the compression is a tad over 10 to 1 and I'm not the best tuner and As good as Holley EFI is I don't like to count on it correcting and catching my mistakes lol we only got one gast station with e85 in north Alabama where I live so I have to order my fuel anyway Ive always ran ignite E90 it's good shit and not super expensive for a 55 gallon drum not as cheap as M1 tho sorry for the long post I'm a maintenance man and production is slow today so nothing is really tearing up so I'm just chilling in the parts cage! LoL

Are there any performance benefits of a roots over a twin screw? Roots are less efficient and make more heat, but are used more often. I know twin screws are prone to blowing up when moving too much air, but I figured there would’ve been a modern solution or technique for preventing explosions.

Why doesn’t anyone ever put an idler or two or even a tensioner to keep that belt from getting slap happy? That shit isn’t good for those belts. I use them industrially and you’ve never ever see them allowed to slap around like that. Edit: yes, they do not like being tight. However letting them slap around like that fatigues the crap out of them. They should always be snug and under control.

Calling a roots blower that goes on a v8 a 10-71 is kinda dumb. Rather I’d call it an 8-89 blower as the 8 always referred to the number of power units it was feeding air to, and 71 was the volume of that power unit at bdc. In this case it’s flowing enough volume to feed an 88.75 cid power unit, so round that to 89 for simplicity.
@TheHorsepowerMonster
@TheHorsepowerMonster 2 жыл бұрын
But that's what BDS (the manufacturer) calls it. If you put an 8-71 blower on a six cylinder engine, do you have to rename it? I get what you are saying, but I don't think it works that way. Thanks for watching
