Gilberto Roman - Was a Mexican professional boxer and a member of the 1980 Mexican Olympic team. Román was a two-time WBC and Lineal Super Flyweight Champion and is considered by many fans to be one of the great champions in this division. Gilberto was trained by Boxing Hall of Famer Ignacio Beristáin. In 1986, Román dethroned long reigning WBC and Lineal Super Flyweight Champion Jiro Watanabe, ending the Japanese champion's streak of 12 consecutive title victories. Román had a record of 54 wins, 6 losses and 1 draw, with 35 wins by knockout. His total of 11 successful title defenses ranks second highest in the history of the super flyweight division.

One of the best pure boxers from Mexico of all time! Gilberto Roman really disproves the myth that a Mexican fighter has to stand and trade, he was an exceptional talent with fantastic defense and counter-punching skills. Roman competed in a great era of Super Flyweights and he holds wins against some of the divisions very best. He was a part of the first golden age of the super flyweight, a superb division. He is still not in the hall of fame despite his incredible record and skills, even if he was in the ballot for 2024. I hope he will be inducted in 2025. One of the few defensive master from Mexico, a very overlooked fighter

Giberto Roman was the prototype in style for Ricardo Lopez...both underrated and underappreciated. Slick Mexican boxers are my favorites, nothing compares (regardless of what B-Hop says😀). Thanks for the video Hanzagod, another great one.

I train with a one of Nacho’s assistant in Mexico City and Gilberto and Ricardo are the boxers that we want to emulate, of course we took great things from many great boxers and things from my creativity, but Romanza’s boxers are always the print of his system

Great fighter I really like his footwork and the spinning the opponent move he makes grabbing the opponents hips and spinning him one way while he pivots the other way. It's a great way to play matador vs an aggressive opponent.

When in close, he puts his arm on the small of his opponents back, this gives him leverage to steer his opponent away from him like a rudder on a ship.
