It’s very powerful and emotional. There’s nothing Goku could do to save Trunk’s timeline. And the fact that future Bulma thought of sending Trunks back to find Goku is so wholesome.

In a sense, for that brief period of time, Goku gave him a glimpse of what having a father (or perhaps "uncle" in the case of Goku) was really like, due to Trunks growing up having never known "his" Vegeta.

Here's a fun fact: Akira Toriyama, the man who created the Dragon Ball series, mentioned he based Trunks character after John Conner from "The Terminator" franchise. In fact, this next saga, which is dubbed the Android Saga, the first two "Terminator" served as an inspiration for this part of the story.

There's also an element that is changed a great deal starting at THIS point of DBZ story. The ability to sense others through their energy....for Goku and Piccolo it has evolved from merely sensing "power levels" to now being a great deal more detailed. Just like Goku told Trunks, he searched his feelings. Essentially Goku and Piccolo now have the ability to not only sense a person's Ki but also "read" said Ki to interpret intentions.

@@grydon6422 Not entirely true. Many of the characters are able to tell each other apart by the feel of their Ki as well. Something that has highlighted when Goku uses the Spirit Bomb again.

@@MandalorianRevan Not true, they're feeling Ki but still have no idea who it's coming from, they just make an estimation based on whose ki it's most similar to. That's why when there is a drastic change in Ki they can't tell who it is.

It stated once after cell saga that he planed to bring Goku to his future and defeat the androids , but since Trunks become so strong he dont need it.

They've built such amazing stories. Goku is such a role model for young men and we grew up aspiring to be like him. Those of us who have seen the Android/Cell saga know exactly what Trunkz went through and what he is trying to prevent.. it is 100% super emotional. I cry every time as well. This is, hands down, one of the best episodes in DBZ.

Trunks didn't really want to prevent it. If he did, he would went further in the past when goku was a kid and dealt with dr gerou himself which would have been easy. bam, he would have avoided everything like that, but i guess this is shounen and thats not possible

@@mastixencounter I think that's not really the reason. Trunk actually can't afford to travel anywhere in time as he wanted. Because Trunk said in later episode to travel requires lot of energy and time to charge the time machine. So the further in time he wants to go, the more energy required, which taking years to charge. So currently he only has the charge / energy for travel and return during the time Frieza came to earth.

This was always one of my favorite episodes; Hearing that Vegeta and Bulma wind up getting together and having a family was such a crazy idea to me back then! Then as the series progressed and seeing just how much character development Vegeta gets as the show goes on is nothing short of astounding. Going from being a major villain, to a "enemy of my enemy is my friend" situation on Namek against Frieza, and then becoming one of the good guys fighting side by side with Goku? Vegeta immediately was my favorite character when he was introduced and then he became even more of my favorite as his character grows so much through the whole series, even going into Dragonball Super. I can't wait to watch along with you guys now rewatching DBZ and hopefully you decide to continue on watching DBSuper as well! Kame knows I'll be here to watch too cause there's nothing like seeing someone's honest and first reaction to everything that happens; Part of it is for the nostalgia of the show, but MOST of it is getting to be on the outside looking in on someone's initial reactions and thoughts of what happens :D

Looking forward to this one! I remember being in shock that trunks was actually in the story as I had a toy of him. But back then there were so many different fake stories and characters, even fake toys like goku with green clothes and SSJ3 but with silver hair and a tonne of GT characters. It was hard to know what was legit being a kid.

Yeah, I think I had some Super Saiyan figurines as a kid long before the episode where Goku turns into one had aired in America. I knew about Vegito, Gogeta and Majin Buu before the Android saga came out. A friend of mine managed to get Japanese clips of the show and showed me, and I had movie 13 in Japanese.

The scene with trunks looking down as he flew away always gets me, but what will get your girlfriend more later on is the parallel scene in super when trunks comes back. The scene with him leaving again is very special as well. I cried heavy in that episode. Great reaction guys!

Let's not forget that Trunks is the one who ultimately killed Frieza and Vegeta at this point has no clue it was his son to finally avenge the Saiyans. Also Goku's own son is the master of Vegeta's son in the future. His own rival. The writing was superb at this point!

This was great. The episode was great. The reaction from both of you really showed how great dbz is. We saw her perspective and seeing all those moments for the first time and that was moving..but to also see yours which you knew was coming and still hit you that hard. Such a cool idea yall had to do this. And I cant help but get excited cause there is still SO much more. I mean there is even the movie coming out in a couple days! This is going to be a long great adventure for yall.

At this point in the story Vegeta is VERY pissed. he realized that Goku didn't JUST pass him, but completely eclipsed him. Also Piccolo is just as strong as he is and Gohan is knocking on that door very HARD. If Vegeta had to fight BOTH Gohan and Piccolo, it's not for certain he'd win. And he KNOWS this.

So there is a translation issue here. Instant Transmission isn't "moving at the speed of light", but actual instantaneous teleportation to anywhere, with the one condition that Goku needs to be able to sense someone's ki at the target location. The "light speed" thing is fine for now, but it doesn't work with a few scenes later on.

Baris & Madison, I’m watching your most recent reactions too, you commented on my comment on one of your most recent videos, but I’m also hopping around in your older reaction vids too (even without reaction vids, I think like any DB fan I just get a hankering to dive into different chapters of the story from time to time, and often do so, but your reactions make it more fun), and I just have to say I love the sincerity and level of both of your reactions on this episode. Seeing you tear up, Baris, makes me and I’m sure all the true DB fans here feel a sense of brotherhood and camaraderie with you, because we all feel the same emotion about the same moments. Really thinking about the experiences, the suffering, the trials of the characters, really appreciating the chapters in their lives, their losses and connections and so much more, is such an emotional thing, and it makes us think about and appreciate all the same in our lives. I just love to find someone who so publicly expresses their love for it, and I’m so glad that you’ve converted Madison into a DB follower too. Keep up the good work 👍🏻 .

True question, Maddison. The Z-fighters don’t want the easy way out and wish away Gero from the Dragonballs according to Bulma. They want to face the challenge head on. That’s how defined these characters are. They live their life fighting.

Super had a good story but GT had a story with an ending… an end of the world sequence with an ending that brought the good in Shenron and ended the quest for the Dragonballs. Plus, The people of Earth and the universe started to believe in Goku.

I don't care what anyone says. DBZ back then was so swift. Look at the epic transition of their hair when they use to turn SSJ. We don't get that close attention today. It really put it in perspective on how SSJ was back then. The only thing you'll get close was the Dragon Ball Super Broly Movie.

Also another thing: Instant Transmission is not light speed. Instant Transmission is instant. The English dub mistranslated this. If it were light speed, it would take a very long time to cross distances in space. The spaceships they've been using are much faster than light. They'd have to be to be able to cross interstellar distances in a few days. It takes light 4 years to reach the nearest star to our solar system, and Namek is likely much further than that.

I choose to believe the Dub screwed up in this episode when explaining Instant Transmission. There's no way it's as slow as Light Speed. Every character since the Saiyan Saga has pretty much had FTL movement, by now they are MUCH faster than light. Super Saiyans are definitely much faster than light. Considering the name of Instant Transmission I would assume it is actually supposed to be instantaneous, the only limit is has is how fast the user can use it, so I suppose it would be limited by Goku's reaction speed, which is pretty high though. Course with certain MUI techniques it might not have any limits to its reaction speed. Guess I could be wrong, but it's statements like this from the Dub (Make no mistake, Dub is my favorite) that give people who think Superman is stronger than Goku firepower, so its best to counter it right off the bat. Sorry, just love Dragon Ball, no way Goku is slower than Superman.

Madison's reaction to trunks's backstory: 😮😀😱😢😭🤯😍😨🥺 Another very good episode. Hey I got another recommendation if that's all right. Can you get to the part where Trunks reveals that *(SPOILERS)* Androids 19 and 20 are not the Androids that terrorized trunks is Future.... At THAT point you should throw in *"History of Trunks"* movie. This will introduce Madison to Androids 17 and 18, and just how big the stakes are. So after that once you get back to the show and they'll reintroduced 17 and 18 again, she'll have that look of dread, and also shock when she figures out there's another Android #16 that Trunks never knew about. (Only adding to the drama.) 😊

In the Japanese dub Goku put most of it together himself. After Trunks says that his mother built his machine, and that she knows Goku well, Goku says "your mom knows me.....and she built a time machine.....does that mean?" Then Trunks says "Yes. She's standing over there." Also, in the last episode, King Cold actually plead for his life, much more so than in the english dub.

fun fact: by this point, toriyama didn't want to write/drawn DBZ anymore but the top brass at SJ wanted him to keep it going. so he tried to sabotaged his own work. he did it by breaking up yamcha and bulma and hooking her up with vegeta, thinking the fans would stop buying it and it would be cancelled. fortunately for us, turns out fans loved vegeta and bulma together as a couple and made the series even more successful. so one of the greatest couples in anime/manga was created out of self-spite.

Future Trunks' timeline always gave me Terminator-like vibes. Destruction, and being hunted down. As a kid this is how I imagined his world and how dire of a situation it was.

Actually, Vegeta and Bulma don't fall in love until years after the Androids are defeated. It's heavily implied that Future Bulma is actually in love with Goku.

Trunks knew that his father wasn't the marrying type, but Bulma saw admirable qualities in Vegeta despite his atrocities, most committed under threat of his own extermination by Frieza. Sometimes, people just find their way to each other. So, Bulma and Vegeta hooked up at some point during the 3 year separation before the Androids arrive. In Dragon Ball Super, Vegeta is more of an actual Father to Trunks and also to Bulla(Trunk's Sister). So, yeah, Vegeta and Bulma hook up more than just once...
