Ghosting is the main thing I hate about jobs in entertainment. Unless you are a huge celebrity, they never call to say they are going with another option.

Even Vivian Vance hated flying across the country to work. And she was already established, she had clout, and was being well-paid. I think you avoided a trap. You have good business sense, Rick.

Rick you project such a warm and caring personality that I am not surprised that they wanted you for this new show concept. Nostalgia is naturally warm and fuzzy so you are a perfect fit. ❤

The title of this episode should have been "Rick dodges a bullet". I was in show biz for roughly 20 years from the late 70s to the '90s. These demons are total scum, most of them. This story gave me PTSD.

Rick, I would certainly have missed your special feeling on the stars of yesterday and their shows. You'll never know how much you had to do with getting my sanity and I through Covid. Acting contracts, sometimes even if they give you a timeline, it can change. I was just on the set of a movie as a background character, that was finished already- and they had to return back to a different state to reshoot the ending 2 months after it was done, because someone decided they didn’t like the ending and it needed to end differently. They had to call in background actors, fly the main actor back to the midwest, and re hire the film crew and shoot an extra 3 weeks. So even if you got an absolute timeline, there can be something that takes place and more time is needed.

Hi Rick. I think this is a testament as to how great your work is. We all enjoy your videos so much. I have to agree that Los Angeles would seem to be the best place to make it and I live on the East Coast! From what you were able to share you should be properly compensated and it doesn’t sound like they were being fair about it. Uprooting your whole life for a month or more is huge. Especially since you’re now engaged. Congratulations to you both!! Maybe it’s the way those people operate but they should have at the very least informed you of the status and/or outcome. For me, that lump sum/salary amount of money was the first red flag. It definitely sounds li9ke you made the right choice. Besides, if they came to you, who's to say someone else might not approach you in the future that is more accommodating in general? :)

We need a show like that. The last couple of generations are not exposed to classic tv and movies like we were in the '60s and '70s.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Now you have experienced personally what the process is like. It sounds to me like you stood up for what was best for you. Clearly, they were hoping, like they often do, getting someone as cheaply as possible. But, you knew what was needed for it to work for you & wouldn't back down. Also, the fact that they never got back to you doesn't surprise me either. You probably know better than I about how many shows were canceled & those involved didn't find out until after the news broke. Whatever happens in the future, you can be sure that you have no regrets about the way this turned out for you.

Suggestion: have you ever previewed the '50s classic MAKE ROOM FOR DANNY/THE DANNY THOMAS SHOW?

Sounds like they were being flaky, vague, they essentially wanted you to be doing some of the work for free...lots of warning flags. Also, don't the unions protect entertainers from having to work 20 consecutive hours?

Congrats on your engagement! :) I watch 2 other YT channels who were offered shows as well, with one the contracts were signed. Then they heard nothing more from those companies. They really should let a person know if things fell thru.

While it would be awesome if you had your own TV show that you would host, I understand why you decided not to do it. Plus, doing a about 5-6 episodes doesn’t always guarantee there would be anything more after they were completed so even if you were gung-ho in doing such a show after doing the initial run of episodes, it could be a situation where nothing more came from it or if the show did get picked up, someone at the company producing the show might want someone different to co-host the show as that is known to happen, though it sounds as if you were their top guy they were looking at for this so that’s defiantly a good thing for you, but no doubt there were at least a few more people they had in mind regarding the co-host role if you declined it. And I defiantly understand the personal aspect of leaving for a month or so and being in a relationship at that point may not have been the best thing for you or your girlfriend, now fiancé as well as the business that you own and run. Also the promoting the show on your channel, might not work as some people aren’t completely into watching certain things, despite people enjoying the videos you make, perhaps the sort of show it would be might not be for everyone here, even though it would be focused on Classic TV and Movies. But if you were ever able to do a TV show you were interested in doing while continue to run your business and do KZfaq fairly regularly some time in the future where you live, then that would be amazing for everyone. Almost sounds like they wanted you for the exposure to your subscribers especially being your channel is in that same genre of their show. Good promotion for them and probably what they offered you is what they would have spent for promotions in their budget. All in all I would say it was great that they wanted you to host and saw your talents. I think you did the right thing especially the way they ghosted you after that last meeting. This is off topic but I was watching a Hogan's heroes episode where I saw Larry Hovis who played Sargent Carter wearing a wedding ring and we all know Carter was not married in Hogan's Heroes. They say he refused to take off his wedding ring and that is why he wore gloves in a lot of those episodes. Not sure if you covered that in any of your videos and if so I must have missed that one. Also final note on Larry Hovis is that he was not casted to be one of the regular crew members of Colonel Hogan and was supposed to only be in that pilot episode and was also Corporal Carter in that pilot. I always thought it was strange that they were scheduling a submarine pickup for him when he was a regular character in the show. Turns out that the person that was supposed to be one of Hogan's crew opted out for some reason and so Larry took his place. Not sure if you covered that as well in any of your Hogan's Heroes videos but is so will have to watch that one too. Thanks for sharing this with us Rick and congratulation on your engagement.

Well if you see this project on tv or a streaming service and someone else is doing it. It was because of the money. Everything always comes down to the money. They probably are looking at another KZfaq channel where the person is willing to do it for next to nothing because he/she lives with their parents in the basement lol!

It wasn’t meant to be. But don’t turn down an opportunity just because you have to relocate. Who knows where this could have led you?

It appears that these people are not of the same values and work ethics as you Rick; someone should have communicated to you in the end and thanked you for your time; rudeness is not acceptable.

Owen thought she would just do the pilot for the show & didn't think it would be picked up for series & when it did she was MISERABLE because her boyfriend lived on the east coast & she missed him but she was under contract So Fred Gwynne & Al Lewis asked the producers to please let her out of her contract & of course they did & was Replaced by Pat Priest. !!!!!!!!!!!! 😊 love you my friend thanks for all your hard work love the channel. !!!!!!!!!❤
