From 1981, Glen Campbell sings “Rhinestone Cowboy” on a British talk show, with a rather mellow backing by the show’s band; talks about his days in what is now known as the Wrecking Crew, touring as one of the Beach Boys, and his innovative Ovation guitar, with which he plays a little jam; he also sings Jerry Reed’s “A Thing Called Love”, and has a funny fail with some faulty bagpipes the show provided him; lots of hilarious interaction between Glen and fellow guest, Scottish comedian Billy Connolly.

Awesome video! I'm an old guy(58) and grew up seeing Glen Campbell on TV in the '70s seemingly everywhere. I'm not a big country fan, and I don't recall being all that into Glen back in the day.(Van Halen, Judas Priest- you get the idea) . He was just one of those guys that it seemed like every time you turned on the TV, there he was. But now that I'm older and wiser, I have in recent years begun to really appreciate what this man was capable of. Songs that I used to hear on the radio, like "Wichita Lineman " I never REALLY listened to. I didn't realize how incredible they were. The rendition of "A thing called love" that Glen plays on this video absolutely floored me, and I had to hear it over and over!!

"Galveston" gets me, too - that guitar solo is epic! There's a video here on KZfaq called "Glen Campbell's fantastic guitar solo on Galveston" posted by Daniel Schorr (one of Glen's last performances) where he plays it w/Steve Wariner. It's a bad ass solo and Glen was getting old... I think Steve was there to kind of back him up in case he stumbled. But, Glen being the perfectionist that he always was, HAD it down - effortlessly dropped into his groove in the first half and Steve just looked at him like "You got this, man!" and stepped back into the shadows ever so casually and let Glen have the spotlight. He did not miss a note.

I know exactly the video you're most likely talking about and a few years ago I was really overdosing on GC vids on YT. Probably saw that one 20 times or more. Tell me if this was the performance...kzfaq.info/get/bejne/msppobCj26jGnXU.html.@@LittleBlueOwl318

10:50, he starts A Thing Called Love. I am absolutely stunned. Glen’s performance level is through the roof. There are very few musicians who get a guitar and play and sing like that live on the go. It seems simple but everyone here who plays guitar or sings or know a thing or two about music can appreciate how high his level is. It sounds so good and so natural and so sweet. It’s a gift that keeps on giving. RIP Glen. What a master!!!

I saw this live when I was a kid - 15 - and I remember recording 'A Thing Called Love' off the TV on an audio tape. I carried it around with me for ages and eventually learned to play the guitar and a version of it a few years later. I lost the tape, but wonderful to see it now. Thanks youtube, and breatube.

Colonel Parker intentionally didn't allow Elvis to appear on talk shows. He didn't think they could help his career in any way. Glen Campbell took the opposite approach, did as many of them as he could. Lucky for us KZfaq viewers.

The Colonel was a deginerate gambler, swindler and Illegal, that's why he never allowed Elvis to travel abroad. The Duke wanted Elvis in True Grit, but the Colonel full of false pride insisted on Elvis get top billing, The Duke and Producer told the Colonel to go to hell and Glenn Campbell got the gig.

I don’t ordinarily post anything on KZfaq but I have to. His guitar is I believe an Adamas. This is Ovation’s top of the line guitar. Its made by Ovation but given the name “Adamas” which means Diamond. It has a carbon fiber top which is only thousands of an inch thick followed by a solid spruce layer underneath. Now Adamas guitars are from $2000 to $5000. I should know, I have loved Ovation guitars since the 1970’s and have played them for over 40 years. Sorry but I had to say something since I know alittle about Ovations.

Seeing this is making me want to learn chicken pickin' cause he did it so great, but that's just not the way youtube guitar teachers are teaching fingerpicking. Not sure if the more common way can be made to sound as good as his way until I see someone do it that way, then I'll be convinced.
