My journey troubleshooting a power cabinet consisting of a pair of Growatt inverters, 4x Global Power LiFePo4 batteries, and 10x 250W Solar Panels.

This is precisely why I like building my own batteries with battery cells that are all matched and I can pre-select the BMS.

I had the exact same issue and Global just replaced it. Its the second total fail out of 4 purchased. I decided to do a capacity test on the other three once I received the new replacement and all three are way off 100ah from 58ah to 65ah. The brand new one is closer at 88ah after only one charge. I purchased them in November of 21

I run (4) 2ah active balance boards but I do not leave them connected more than 3 or 4 days because the research was sort of inconclusive at the time.

After seeing your video review of these batteries last year, I bought 4 of these Global Power batteries. Then months later you posted another review downgrading them. I think you found a problem with the BMS but want to makes sure I get the right BMS replacement. Please post a link of the parts I need to upgrade the defect on these batteries, thanks.

Hi Ray, I apologize for any troubles I caused from that first video. Truly that first battery tested well but then others I bought didn't! Guess I need a larger sample size in the future. Regarding the BMS, are you running these batteries in series or keeping them in parallel for 12v operation?

No apology necessary. Your initial testing was thorough. I am using them in parallel for 12 volt operation on a 5th wheel camper. Thanks in advance.

@@raystanton238 This is a good unit and has bluetooth if you want to monitor the batteries. It has the bolt-through connections so you shouldn't need to solder anything. Might need to pick up some 5/16" bolts and nuts from the hardware store. Just be careful the BMS can't come in contact with the positive and negative terminals of the battery once it's all buttoned back up. s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DEhvU1D

Are you going to sell the old batteries? I've been thinking of doing a com-panel backup project, need 12V battery...

how have those growatt 3000 es been for you ? wanna get one but a bit skeptical after reading an watching reviews with bad mppt boards for some in less than a year

ive had good luck with the one i bought from beene but im very concervitive on the input voltage and have only ever run it up to 1900w solar input( witch has been more then enough) i also have an epever mppt as backup and about half a pallet of panels left incase it ever hails ( what can i say beene had a good deal on offer if i bought a pallet ). the newer higher input voltage all in ones have been looking real nice tho

@@cec4 ok thanks for the reply, how long has the growatt been in service an what is it powering. from the Caribbean so hail isn't a problem for us.

I’ve sold about four of the es version. Haven’t had any issues to date. Not a big sample size but it’s something. One pair of them is in a tiny unconditioned metal building. One has 2500w of solar, other is just there for 240v operation. Hasn’t been operational for too long. Maybe three months now.

You didn't have a cell balancer on this system? Did I hear you correctly there? Because if you didn't that is probably what caused the issue. Cells got out of balance and the other cells took charge or discharged a bit faster than the cell that died. Ive had this happen before on 20s batteries that I've put together. So it does happen.

Yes each battery had a balancer as well as a protection board. I think the protection board went out. But not an expert enough to say for sure that’s what went wrong.

I wonder what upset it. Heat? Solar flares? I’m not so far from you and my inverter popped it’s clogs during the week.

I lean towards defect. I was pushing these batteries pretty close to their 100a limits and it failed within weeks of commissioning.

I have 2 of these batteries and am thinking about splitting the 20p packs in 2 in order to make a 48v, 16s10p Pack with those 32650 cells. I would then use 1 jbd bms to rule them all.
