Wow - saw 71° on the ol' GM rearview digital thermometer there. I take it this wasn't shot anytime recently! I just lit my coal boiler last night - gettin' nippy out there now! Snow on the ground too out here 5.5 hours east of you. Parts ... that's the story of my life here too Eric! Either they're wrong, broken in the box, or not even remotely close to what was ordered! Advance Auto, for one, is famous for misboxed items from not checking returns. Just installed some chi-com headlight assemblies in a '95 Volvo 940 wagon - just about every retaining clip shattered. Stupid junk! In hindsight, I probably should've warmed that plastic garbage up a bit before forcing them over the little plastic balls on the adjusters. GRRR!! Makes me mad enough to throw tools ... Definitely filing this one in my favorites - I'm sure at some point very soon I'll be doing the same things to my '07 Silverado. Just rolled over to 88k miles. Lucky for me, I leave the A/C on all summer, and very rarely open my windows, except for tolls, the bank, and drive-thru chow. So when the driver's window friggs up, I'll know the other's aren't far behind! I'm so mad at GM right now that I might just throw Dorman junk in there for spite. :D Nice puppy there too! I laughed when you asked Trinity if she was gonna drag it around, HAHAHAHA! Could totally picture that ... :D

It's easy after you do it 10 times. I absolutely hate working on the insides of a door. Lift motors seem to always fail with the window down. I'd like to know why these latch assemblies are broken. I know why the outside handle breaks, it's designed to break after the warranty goes out. It's a 15 minute parking lot job, no service bay needed. Really a money maker for a dealership with parts markup and an hour of labor. The driver's handle doesn't break as easy because the key lock mechanism reinforces it.

Hello Eric, Is the new puppy related to Sheba? I have never understood with all that is going on in a door why they don't design better access? A very slow second grader would have it solved in a few minutes. Seems to be a lot of people in the auto industry from the top down that don't seem to know what their function is or how to perform it. I would also expect the Highway Safety bureaucrats to mandate better steel in the frames when they are corroding to the extent they are. A bit of carbon and or nickel would make all the difference. Check out old railroad track steel from 100 years ago even in salty environments with constant moisture and you will only see a patena of rust with no flaking or loss of base metal. Old mine sites around the ocean prove it over and over. Nice job on the delicate plastic and working in the blind. Take care. Give Sheba a big hug and the puppy (name?) one too. Doug

As I recall, you can put illuminated switches in place and they'll function. GM will just charge you an extra three First Born for them. If you're feeling brave, you can source a 3mm LED and a small resister and retrofit them into the factory non-lit housing; the tracks should be on the board inside. :D

Eric great vedio. I had to replace my front door look on my GMC Serria 2008. I had the *&#@ thing in and out of that door at lease three times. My big flub was dropping a bolt down inside the door. I had to go fine a magnet to fish the &%$#@ thing out. Took two days to finish my lock replacement. Guess what now I got to work on the drivers side rear door lock. It is hit and miss on unlocking but locks okay. I had read somewhere that General Motors had problems across there line with their door locks. Anyway I enjoyed watching you fumble with removal and installation like I did. The only thing better was you keep losing your pocket screw driver. I don't have one. Sorry to revive a dead thread, but I went to replace the regulator (on my new-used used GMT-800 Suburban) and found a GMT-400 lock actuator clamped to the lock rod and stuck to the door with plumber's tape and a couple sheet metal screws. They cut off the wires and butt connected it to the new actuator. So I went to look up the part to return it to stock and... for $200, yeah, it works fine as it is.

I ended up cleaning my son-in-laws 08 Sierra window switchs. All of em. Took em apart lightly sanded contacts on circuit board reinstalled, replaced left rear regulator n motor. Before only driverside front would go up and down. Rest of em would only go down. Now all is good. Electrical locks not so much. Cleaned both front lock switchs still only little clunk. Sooooo, driver front actuator bad I assume. Question: Will the driver lock actuator being bad cause the passenger actuator also to be inoperable? Remote fob will not lock or unlock either as well.

Another Great Video that shows how things work inside the doors of our vehicles. -- Is there anything we should do, preventative maintenance wise, when we do have to go inside the doors? Do you recommend any greasing, cleaning, adjustments or really anything to prolong or even perhaps prevent unwanted repairs down the road? (including getting rid of those darn annoying honkin sounds when we roll our windows up and down) Anything at all to extend the life of our internal parts? -- Hey what was that screwdriver bit that you used to remove the screws? Was it the TopTul bit? Is it in your store? -- If we don't see ya before old St. Nick arrives and puts sleigh tracks and err... his engine power team drops a load or two on our roofs. We too, Wish Everyone a Blessed Christmas and Safe and Prosperous New Year.

I've had good luck with 303 Aerospace rubber weather seal conditioner for keeping the window seals smooth and quiet. I use one of the small foam paint applicators and apply it all the way in the groove so there's less strain on the mechanicals. I think it's expensive but if you read the reviews, it's hands-down the best... www.amazon.com/303-30324-Protectant-Conditioner-Weather/dp/B00T44D1R2/ref=pd_sim_263_4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=8Y5JZJFMP8N8TMN64B10 Have a good one!

Very helpful videos for diagnosis. My problem still remains tho (unless 3 master switches and 2 actuators were both pooched from the wrecking yard) All doors lock with the fob and switch panel minus the passenger front. Changed the actuator, no fix. Changed the master switch, no fix. Checked all fuses that I know of. Problem 2, drivers side rear window won't go up or down. Checked for power at the window motor and it has constant (dim light) on both sides of the plug and lights up for up and down. Put power to the motor and it works just fine 🤔

I know its been 2 years but based off the wiring diagrams he showed in the 1st video it sounds you need the passenger front lock switch and the drivers side rear window switch. Each of these "switches" are like their own mini computers sending signals to each other. So changing the master(assuming you mean drivers) switch won't fix the passenger lock because the passenger lock/door module isn't able to make use of the signal from any of the physical switches and pretty much same with the rear window. I could be way off on my guesses or may have misunderstood you though. Did you ever get the problems fixed?

I have a 2003 suburban, passenger door, that will not open. Is there a method to take off the door panel or open the door when the door won’t open?
